A couple of shots from an extremely foggy cold cruise around the bay on New Years.

By Ohio standards was warm and balmy, but for me was bitter cold. On the water was pretty nippy, but here are a few to enjoy.

Beautiful city.  Those cruises out on the bay get freezing!

i love the first bridge picture.

It just looks cold!

It was about 45.  That translates to about -45 for me.  With the wind and the water it was chilling to the bone. The fog only added to the feeling of cold, but it certainly is worth the effort and minor discomfort.  Plus we stopped at the Ferry Buiding after the cruise. It was jammed packed, even on New Years day.  The rest of the city looked like a ghost town. There was even parking in my neighborhood!

I would normally say how jealous I am of you, but I was actually spending New Years on South Beach in Miami, FL.  Lovely photos though, thanks.

Beautiful!

On my one Christmastime visit to San Francisco, by the second day my body had reacted violently to the damp chill. My lungs sounded as if I were in the final stages of pneumonia. I was sleeping on a foam mattress on the living room floor in a friend's house, and in the morning when I'd put away my "bed", the floor under it was wet with sweat that had passed clear through the mattress.

On the trip home, when the train reached Truckee late at night, with the outside temp slightly above 0 F and the air clear and dry and lots of fresh snow, I stepped off the train for a few minutes while passengers detrained and boarded. By the time I returned to my sleeper, my lungs felt clean and I was no longer wheezing. Cured by mountain air!

I think it would be difficult for me to adjust to Bay Area midwinter climate.

the bay is perpetually chilly, no? we just had zero celsius the whole time walking around in london so that was cold too. happy new year left coast...great way to spend it!

That first picture should be framed.

Thanks!  Was surprised it came out as well as it did.

The bay is cold most of the year, but is refreshing and keeps the city cool in the summer.  If you travel only a few miles inland the temperature soars.  Cities only 30 miles inland often have temperatures of 105-110 during the summer, while we enjoy 60-70.  You can always put on a sweater, but it's kind of difficult to take off your skin.  That being said, sometimes I think of escaping for good to Palm Springs.

Once you go past or thru that tunnel on the Oakland side of the bay toward rockridge and walnut creek, the heat is ridiculous.  I fee bad for all those cows.  lol

we have friends (from dayton!) just south of sf in half moon bay. they even talk about micro-climates around there, like fog that rolls in at certain times in certain places, etc. i always found that interesting. weather is certainly unique around the greater bay area.

Very nice, looks like a great way to spend the holiday.
