Posted January 3, 200916 yr ...continued from http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,18117.new.html Walking North from Cherry Creek to City Park, I found something very surprising. They have miles of beautiful, ornate, historic houses. For some reason, I though Denver was all boring postwar housing. I couldn't believe how widespread these houses were. All told, I walked 14 miles in 4 days and covered quite a bit of the city. The houses were beautiful everywhere I went. Part 8 is City Park, the largest park in Denver. Here's the link: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,18119.new.html
January 3, 200916 yr Wow! Stunning neighborhood! Looks like mostly 1890s - 1920s, nice and solid and ranging from upper middle class to quite affluent. I'll bet it's gorgeous in the warm seasons.

Yeah, the really cool thing is that this isn't just one neighborhood. I walk three miles between Cherry Creek and City Park, winding around various blocks. These houses are widespread, I was really shocked. I did notice that there was no vernacular. The styles on any block vary greatly. I think it has something to do with the fact that it was a centrally located gold rush town. People came from all over and threw up whatever style they knew about. It's really fascinating.
January 4, 200916 yr I'm really glad you included this set of residential neighborhoods. Many cities are able to dress up their urban centers, but it is much more difficult to maintain quality urban neighborhoods like these. Thanks.

January 6, 200916 yr It's trash, but atleast you took nice photos! CDM, I'd really like to know where the hatred is coming from. Maybe it wasn't the greatest place in the past, but it's definitely a functioning model of a well run city today.
January 6, 200916 yr I would kinda like to know that too. I mean c'mon, VABE YOU BEEN to Colorado Springs and Pueblo? Denver is the BEST city in the state!! LOL

Grand Junction, Aurora, Cripple Creek...Greeley...oy vey! It's trash, but atleast you took nice photos! CDM, I'd really like to know where the hatred is coming from. Maybe it wasn't the greatest place in the past, but it's definitely a functioning model of a well run city today. I don't "hate" Denver. Okay, that's a lie. I do. Eh, basically personal reasons + horrid, idiotic people + nasty food + horrendous architecture aside from some cute Victorians and LoDo + Colorado arrogance (yes, they are self-isolationists that think having Jamba Juice is 'cool') + India.Arie = Hell on Earth.
