Hi,

I am a student at CSU (Cleveland, OH) (will be living with my wife) and i had a question abt renting a semi-basement apt at shaker square...

1.  Should I be worried about the apartment being particularly cold ( since its in part located in the basement)

2.  Should I be worried about break-ins since the windows are almost along the ground.

Any help regarding this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Welcome, imran!  Tough to comment on the heat situation because it will depend on how the building is heated and how well insulated the unit is.  It might also depend where in the building the thermostat is (assuming the heating system uses one).

As for break-ins:  Do the windows face a well-lit area or a street that might deter would-be burglars?  The neighborhood is generally pretty safe (several forumers live there), but there certainly is some crime in the area.  You might check with the local police precinct to see if this a type of crime they encounter frequently.

first of all thanks for the quick reply!!

specifically the apartment faces drexmore on one side and Van Aken on the other side,  I am not familiar with the place at nights... so if this info could help, plz let me know

thanks

Oh goodie, more recruits neighbors.  You're building is on a safe corner.

Welcome to the 'hood!!

There are very few break in or crimes in the Shaker Square area.

If its the building I'm thinking of,it's the first building on Van Aken.  That is a prime block and their a lots of pedestrians and the train and vehicular traffic.

Almost all the rental buildings on the Square have a ground/basement apartment and it's not really a big deal.

If push come to shove and something happens, I can see the building from my crib and I'll call the police!  ;)

You mean there are no bars on the window?  If not, I would say it is rather safe.

Here in DC it is un-heard of for anything below the second story to not have bars over the windows.

most don't.

This building is right infront of the Drexmore Rapid Station.  Look at the apartments on N. & S. Moreland, 130 St., Larchmere or Kemper.  No bars.

Bars is really an East Coast thing.

thanks everyone...i really appreciate it...but thing didnt quite work out and i'm looking at some other locations...thanks everyone!!
