Posted January 19, 200916 yr So I just found out I'm moving to Cleveland for work in two and a half weeks... Needless to say I'm pretty excited about it, however I don't know where to begin to look for a place to live. I was thinking about living DT and I've looked at a few places, only one of which I liked (Stonebridge Plaza). I'm looking at renting for the first year before I buy, just wondering if anyone can give me a website where there would be some apartments to look at. In Columbus we have a few good websites that have places listed, such as www.metro-rental.com, but I haven't found one like this for Cleveland. Any help would be great! Thanks! -Randy
January 19, 200916 yr Randy, you'll love this board and you'll love Cleveland, everyone will help you get acclimated. I have 2 different good friends who live at Stonebridge and they are both happy there. If you are on a short time table, I say just go with your best instinct and sign a lease, then you can spend the first year here figuring out where you'd want to go for a longer term amount of time. You can try apartments.com but I'm not sure how many DT apartments are listed there. I also sometimes look at this site that rates apartments, I think it's apartment-ratings.com or something, google it to be sure. There's no property that won't have SOME negative posts on there but you can get an idea of what to look out for or know what's bad with the good at any apartment. Will you be working DT? We can all help you in terms of finding your way around, stores, restaurants, etc.
January 19, 200916 yr Welcome to the forum! Check out http://www.downtown-digs.com/ME2/Sites/Default.asp if you're interested in living downtown.
January 20, 200916 yr Thanks for all the input. I'll be working mostly at the Clinic. I currently live near the Short North district in Columbus, so I know I want to live in a place in or near downtown. JMC, that website you gave is just what I was looking for.
January 20, 200916 yr I live in the flats and love it. I think you will like the plaza. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
January 20, 200916 yr The thing about Stonebridge is that you will have less access to the new Silver Line bus. If you work at the Clinic, rent somewhere in downtown proper. On days when you don't want to drive, you can hop on the silver line and get to the clinic for two bucks. Super convenient. You might find you don't even need your car except on weekends or long trips. The short north is like a mix between the warehouse district and the east fourth district downtown. I would visit apartments in both areas (they are about a 10 minute walk from one another) before comitting to Stonebridge.
January 20, 200916 yr E4th has newly opening 1 bedrooms above Corner Alley if I remember correctly. You could spit on the Healthline below on Euclid Avenue from there if you wanted to.
January 20, 200916 yr Yeah -- good idea. Check out http://www.east4thstreet.com for more details and contact them soon to see if they have availability. I've heard that reservations are going quickly.
January 20, 200916 yr Yeah -- good idea. Check out http://www.east4thstreet.com for more details and contact them soon to see if they have availability. I've heard that reservations are going quickly. Checked on those places, although it looks like what I'm looking for in a place, I also have a dog, which limits where I can live downtown. Anyone know of any good places in or near downtown that allows dogs? I'll be up there on Monday to check out some places and hopefully find a place
January 20, 200916 yr In the Warehouse District, I know that Bridgeview, Perry Payne, Water Street (all three Landmark mgmt), the Bingham Crittenden Court all allow dogs.
January 20, 200916 yr I lived in the Bingham in the past and its very convenient. They accept dogs, they have a grocery store in the bottom floor, and its a quick 1 block walk to the free downtown circulator trolley. They also have a dog walking area and its close enough to a park by the river that you can find real expansive areas of grass if youre willing to walk to the rivers edge. Bridgeview is next door and VERY similar to Bingham.
January 20, 200916 yr Not sure how big your dog is, but most places that do allow dogs have a weight limit (typically 50 lbs). Crittenden Court is the only one I know of that has no weight limit. Keep that in mind when you come up on Monday.
January 20, 200916 yr In the East 4th area, WT Grant Lofts allows dogs. http://www.wtgrantloftapartments.com
January 20, 200916 yr Thank you all for your input. FrqntFlyr, thanks for the info on WT Grant, I'll call tomorrow and add that to the list on Monday.
January 21, 200916 yr Osborn and Huron Square Apartments in the gateway district also both allow dogs. http://www.huronosborn.com/overview
January 22, 200916 yr Thanks for all the input. I'll be working mostly at the Clinic. I currently live near the Short North district in Columbus, so I know I want to live in a place in or near downtown. JMC, that website you gave is just what I was looking for. You should also look into fabulous Shaker Square & cozy Little Italy-Murray Hill neighborhoods as they are super close to the Clinic. Cleveland Heights might also interest you.
January 22, 200916 yr All excellent choices. Can you imagine if Lower Euclid got a grocery store? That would send that neighborhood off the charts, IMHO. Put it at 515 Euclid! January 22, 200916 yr All excellent choices. Can you imagine if Lower Euclid got a grocery store? That would send that neighborhood off the charts, IMHO. Put it at 515 Euclid! DING..DING..DING we have a winner. I think the city should open up a new central market in one or more of the existing buildings. You get street cred and name recognition and every one loves a hometown bidnezz. ;) It can be a condensed, modern and urban version of the market, that seamlessly fits into the neighborhood. example: The Grand Central Market
March 18, 200916 yr a day late and a few dollars short, but I feel your pain as I moved from Cbus to the Cleve almost a year ago. I miss Cbus VERY much but am happy in Cleveland (Shaker Square area) as long as I can get back to Cbus once or twice a month to visit all the friends I left there. Shaker Heights is a great area, particularly around the square. Feel very at home here and safe.
