Hey...did you see my post in your other thread?

first of all...thanks a lot for such quick help...

I did go through all the thread links in your post...and I did get some great info about the square.

My only concern now would be...what should I consider as the boundary for where I should find an apartment in shaker squre..or more specifically which streets should be the limit on each side as far as safety is concerned (since my wife and I will be returning back from school/work quite late in the evening/night).  I would really appreciate all the help I could get in that direction

thanks again!!

I come in late (11 PM/ Midnight) and leave very early in the morning on days.

The boundaries I use are:

North to South:  Forest/Ashwood to Fairhill

East to West:  126/127 street to Coventry

Have you spent any time on the Square?

Safety comfort levels are subjective (and contentious on this board)...but I personally would not live in the neighborhood SW of Shaker Square (south of Shaker Blvd and west of South Moreland).  It's by no means among the worst in the city, but it's noticeably more ragged than the other quadrants, and there is really nothing of any appeal left on Buckeye.

My first choice would be the apartment corridor along North Moreland, north of the Square, but I don't think E127, if on the NORTH side of Shaker Blvd would be bad.  Larchmere, the next street to the north has some great stuff on it.

On the north side of Shaker, the blocs from 116 to 130 and from SB to Fairhill are very safe as a City Council person lives there and those homes are very well maintained.

The SW quadrant isn't as bad as some people make out to be, as it has the best architecture.

As I always say, explore the neighborhood on more than one occasion and at different times.

"and there is really nothing of any appeal left on Buckeye."

Hey, Lucy's is still there for the time being!

Otherwise its totally about imrans comfort level and what he's used to.  I would probably agree with Straphangers assessment for me, but then Im also not as threatening and tough as MTS.

Well I do blend into the neighborhood.  I have had no problems when going to the post office or Luke Easter Park on foot or bike.

My nephew has classmates in that area.  To me it's fine.

But let it be known, if you get out line, I will hit you with my man bag!

thank you everyone for your replies!!...I think i now have a fair idea about the area.

I have been there...but its been mainly during the day, so I didnt know how it is later in the evening...but thanks everyone...this info will be really useful

Thanks again!!

Monday-Friday

in the morning most people are walking to/from train stations, kids are enroute to school and driving traffic and parking around the square is a mess.  It repeats again around 5PM to about 7PM

Weekdends is when the bikers, joggers, loungers on the square come out.  Lots of foot traffic.

I go out an about at all hours.

What building are you now looking at?

I'm looking at the buckwood and shaker west right now...

The buckwood doesn't look that bad.

Have you physically been to the square?  I've seen a sign or two for vacancies on Kemper and North Moreland.

Suggestions:

  • Drexmore Mansion - They had bad reviews 5/6/7 years ago, but renovated.
  • Ludlow Castle - The units are fantastic.  Almost each unit is unique
  • Shaker House - Directly across the street from the Train
  • Gables on Ludlow - I remember there being issues (and im not sure what they were) with college kids and high turn over.
  • the North Moreland - I hope this is the right address, but 2630 has a vacancy sign.
  • The Colony apartments - they always have vacancy's

Try these folks. www.la-management.com & They've been advertising upgraded units.

Be careful with the addresses as some of these units are not in the Shaker Buckeye neighborhood, but further east in Shaker Heights.

− 2621 North Moreland and Shaker House are prime buildings.
