Hey what's up? I'm Paul, working on behalf of Positively Cleveland to bring some exciting news about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2009 Induction Ceremony. This year's ceremony will be taking place in Cleveland for the first time since 1997 and broadcast live on Fuse TV! Inductees include Run DMC, Metallica, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Jeff Beck and Bobby Womack. To celebrate, there will be tons of events happening the week of the ceremony (March 28-April 4), including free concerts! You can check out event listings here: http://www.rockhall.com/calendar

Ceremony pre-sale tickets are available for one day by visiting the Rock Hall's box office on January 24th at 10 AM. All tickets go on sale January 26 through Ticketmaster outlets starting at 10 AM. Never in the ceremony's 24 year history has it been made open to the public until now! So be early - tickets are first-come, first-served.

Feeling lucky? Enter the Cleveland Rock Hall Induction Ceremonies Sweepstakes: http://www.positivelycleveland.com/induction09. The winner will receive two tickets to the induction as well as a free night stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. Good luck!

I hope to bring you more exciting updates surrounding Cleveland soon! I'll be checking back often to answer any questions you might have, or just to say hi! :)

See you around,

How about "Cleveland" with jazz hands?

I don't think he's actually from Positively Cleveland. I think he's more a marketing person for the induction ceremonies, working in conjunction with Positively Cleveland.

Go to www.americanpopinc.com

Either way, welcome to the board, and I look forward to hearing more about the induction ceremony.

There is free admission to the rock hall the day of the induction ceremonies, FYI.

Just wanted to let you all know the Induction Ceremony has already sold out! There's a chance additional tickets will go on sale later once event details are finalized, sign up for the newsletter at www.rockhall.com/induction2009 to find out if more tix become available later! It's not too late to give the sweepstakes a shot either.

rockandroller - you are correct, the Rock Hall will be open for free April 4th!

jpop - I am working with American Pop in conjunction with Positively Cleveland, however I am not here to simply market the induction ceremony, but rather spread awareness about what's going on in Cleveland :)

LOL @ Cleveland *jazz hands!*

I'm honestly thrilled that the ceremony has sold out, and so quickly.  The only other time they had the induction ceremonies here, I went downtown and hung out near the Renaissance where the events were, to try to get in on the excitement and see some celebs or whatever.  The city could not have been deader.  IMO it sent a terrible message about what we think of having such an event here and I'm not surprised they haven't done it since. Hopefully it will be different this time.

I'd like to see this promoted downtown no less than Christmas is.

And NO jazz hands!

I'm the first to admit that when I open my mouth, a Barbie Dream House has been known to fall out - but even *I* cannot approve of Cleveland *jazzhands*.

But good to hear the ceremony is being well received so early in the game - and welcome to the forum! :)

Lord MayDay!

Yeah I hear that rockandroller, we're hoping to see more excitement this time around! On April 2nd, the hall will be holding a free concert featuring previous inductees, and the Bruce Springsteen exhibit is opening that week too, so I'm sure that will bring some people out!

Great! It's good to hear from you then, and you're definitely welcome. You'll find a lot of people who share excitement for Cleveland here. :)

Thanks jpop! What are some of your favorite places to hit in Cleveland?

What kind of trouble do you want to get into?

Thanks jpop! What are some of your favorite places to hit in Cleveland?

Personally, I love a lot of the art-related places. I love MOCA, Spaces, some of the galleries on the near east side .. of course, CMA. I also love Detroit-Shoreway, with Cleveland Public Theatre, especially. Coventry. Tremont.

Coventry and Tremont all the way! :)

Just a quick heads up, the line-up for the annual Moondog Coronation ball has been announced. To kick things off, previous Rock Hall Inductee Little Richard will be performing, as well as Three Dog Night, Tommy James & The Shondells + more! Tickets go on sale this Saturday, February 7th at 10 AM at the Quicken Loans Arena box office and online.

Little Richard is a hoot!  lol

I'll never forget coming down the escalator with the first VIPs to the lower level and the sound of piano music wafting up to greet us, and as we got down lower we could see who was playing, and it was Little Richard!  It was such an exciting way to kick off the grand opening.

Art enthusiasts looking for something to do might want to check this out! Exhibits by Susan McClelland and Don Henson are on display at the Sculpture Center.

Susan's work with "Accumumlations Retraced" really caught my interest. She used a range of hand stitched fabrics, metal wires and household furniture to construct these unique sculptures. This exhibit is open for viewing in the Main Gallery. Then swing by the Euclid Ave Gallery to see "In Fluid Space," sculpture by Don Henson that showcases the use of aluminum through technologically abstract methods.

These pieces will be on display until February 14th. Gallery hours are 10 to 4 Wednesday through Friday, and noon to 4 Saturdays. Appointments for groups/tours also available, parking and admission are totally FREE! More info @: http://www.sculpturecenter.org/

Thanks for the reminder, that information was posted in the events section here on UO.

Thanks MyTwoSense, just caught that! What an awesome thread by Murray Hill :)

Ezra Furman and the Harpoons are playing Beachland Ballroom and Tavern tonight, with Elephant Bones as the opening act. Fans of indie pop/rock - don't miss it! I'm currently loving their "Take Off Your Sunglasses" song, reminds me so much of The Pretenders :)

My, such creative people.......

Come on, KJP....even if you love Cleveland (like I do), you have to appreciate some of the humor in Polk's video

^I agree!

"Who the F--- still uses a payphone?"

That's just awesome...

A coworker sent that to me last week thinking he would get me all riled up, but I think I shocked him when I said "eh, whatever, at least it was kind of funny."

Come on, KJP....even if you love Cleveland (like I do), you have to appreciate some of the humor in Polk's video

I dunno, it has one or two spots worthy of a mild chuckle but we (UrbanOhioans) have had threads funnier than that video. What's sad is that I've heard some people say they thought it was fricking hilarious - talk about low standards.

Exactly, I chuckled at the phone booth and Leading the Country in Drifters or whatever they said (haven't watched it since I first saw it) but other than that it was just kind of lame.  I didn't take any great offense to it though.

Who said I didn't? But for the most part it was just OK.

Video Contest this month:

http://www.positivelycleveland.com/hastilymade

main.gif

So, there’s this video making the rounds out there as the fictitious $14 million project of the “Cleveland Tourism Board.” (You know who you are, funny guys.) Positively Cleveland has created and distributed our fair share of videos highlighting Northeast Ohio’s assets from the glacial grooves at Kelleys Island to the musical riffs of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but the region’s real convention and visitors bureau only dreams of having that kind of budget to market the region to leisure and business travelers.

That’s why Positively Cleveland and a sampling of its 650 hospitality partners are encouraging Cleveland residents and fans to take a turn at being video ambassadors for the region. Starting Wednesday, May 13, in the midst of National Travel & Tourism Week and Ohio Tourism Month, enter a viral video in the “Official Positively Cleveland Hastily Made Video Contest.” The ground rules? Entrants have just 2 weeks to create a video that’s under 2 minutes in length for (you guessed it) $2 or less.

If the reward of a job well done that gets passed around on Twitter and Facebook is not enough motivation, there is an added incentive. Positively Cleveland and its members (who would like to have something amusing and upbeat to post to their Facebook pages) have stepped up to award two big prize packs for the most innovative pro-Cleveland  Plus videos.

The top five entrants with the most votes and comments on Positively Cleveland’s YouTube group page will move on to a final voting round by regional champions. The final 2 winners’ videos will be played in the Cleveland Plus Visitors Center operated by Positively Cleveland on Public Square (The Higbee Building, 100 Public Square, Suite 100) and featured on the convention and visitors bureau’s website. They will also win generous prize packages that let them discover even more to love about Northeast Ohio.

Here’s what you could win...

We’re quickly approaching the 40th anniversary of the Cuyahoga River fire. Cleveland, Ohio is commemorating that watershed event by celebrating the re-birth of a much greener city. For those unaware, the Cuyahoga River fire was an unfortunate incident that occurred on June 22, 1969 when some molten steel fell from a passing train into a slick of industrial waste floating on the water’s surface. This led to a groundbreaking piece of legislation that sparked a major environmental movement. Cleveland has since taken great strides in becoming a green city on a blue lake!

Positively Cleveland is dubbing 2009 "The Year of the River," and has compiled a list of 75 green reasons to love Cleveland along with eco-friendly ways to celebrate summer at http://www.positivelycleveland.com/h2ohio.

Great list!

Personally, my favorite is the "Burning River Pale Ale" from the eco-friendly business of the Great Lakes Brewing Co.

Hahaha, cheers to that Mayday!

Speaking of Burning River Pale Ale (and I'm probably going to show how infrequently I go to Progressive Field), I went to an Indians game recently and Burning River, previously only available at the Batter's Eye (I believe), is now sold in at least one stand (located near Section 170) and I also bought one from a vendor coming down the aisle (he was yelling "Corona and Great Lakes!" and was selling Corona, Dortmunder, and Burning River).  It's $7 from a travelling vendor, and $6.25 from the stationary ones, both for a 12 oz. bottle poured into a cup.  Quite a deal when you consider that the pisswater beers are $7 for 16 oz.

^^^ very cool.

For anyone who is going to be in the area for the river fire anniversary, you're invited to come celebrate the "Year of the River" on Monday,  June 22, 11:30am to 1:30pm @ Settlers Landing (East Bank). This news conference is set to acknowledge those responsible for 40 years of clean water progress in Northeast Ohio. Following the commemoration, you can come out to the River Re-Birthday Party (a bring-your-own picnic event) from 2-8pm in Heritage Park. There will be games, drumming, dance, history and river lore. As well as a chance to win new t-shirts that say, "Ending 40 Years of Cleveland Jokes." Haha!

Would you like to become more involved with the local green movement? You might be surprised to find a large number of environmentally conscious jobs in Ohio. Here's a list to get you started: http://hirejam.jobamatic.com/a/jobs/find-jobs

Positively Cleveland Wants To Know What's Positive About Cleveland

Positively Cleveland is encouraging fans of Northeast Ohio to share their favorite things about the region.

The convention and visitors bureau is looking for videos, photos, tweets, links that show how much Cleveland has to offer.

The winner will get a trip to bring a friend, family member or business associate here to explore everything they love about Cleveland Plus in its "Happy in CLE+" contest.
