a thread on lovable true blue collar bayonne, nj. put in ohio terms, it’s lorain on a good day.  :laugh:

 

bayonne dates to 1609 and has 60k people densely but comfortably packed into under 6sq. miles.

they use a POP system. transit cops swarm the trains at random stations to check your tickets.

Wow great post.  Although I don't agree that Bayonne is worst than Lorain, it has some great commercial and residential still intact.

 

^ no, no neither do i, bayonne's in much better shape.

More like Lorain circa 1970's before the industrial economy tanked, and when the ethnic clubs and organizations were still thriving, and there were businesses downtown. Maybe Lorain today is more like Camden or Paterson?

Neat thread. I don't know of anything that would ever take me to Bayonne, and I'm glad I got to see it. The photos are excellent.

 

I wonder if the Berghoffs whose name the building bears are related to the Berghoff family whose name is on one of Chicago's best-known restaurants, and who ran a major local brewery in Fort Wayne.
