Posted January 28, 200916 yr ...Reggae Time! Since this is the coldest iciest day of the winter, something to bring back summer. The 2008 Dayton Third World Reggae Festival, from back in Labor Day. I try to post the festival pix thread on the day with the big winter ice/snow event…lolz…. The three after-show venues. Therapy has “dancehall” Djing (which I guess is the modern form of Reggae) , the other two had the live acts from the festival. This year I didn’t go, but there is always some good jamming going on…. South Park Tavern on Wayne Avenue ( which is turning into a good original live music ventue) J-Alans Therapy
January 28, 200916 yr Yum. That park is such a beautiful green island in downtown, and I can smell the BBQ, enough to make me start to salivate. Edit: I had to go out and get some BBQ. So what if it was grocery-deli variety and I had to nuke it when I got it home? It's making me feel all warm and happy inside, on a cold-cold night.
January 30, 200916 yr Man, I want some ribs now. Thanks again for reminding us why Dayton is awesome, Jeffery!
February 10, 200916 yr It looks like this park is being proposed as the site of a new hockey arena for the minor league Dayton Bombers as well as pratice space for little league hocky, sort of a regional little league thing, though it's being sold as a multipurpose space. There is some though that this will not be this glassy. Replacing this park, which is not used much, but when it is its delightfull:
February 11, 200916 yr Aren't there any surface lots in downtown Dayton that this arena could be placed? This park looks really nice with mature trees, and much needed greenery in the downtown area (by the looks of that satelite view)
February 11, 200916 yr ^ Yeah, its a great space but not used too much. The landscaping is around 30 years old, I think, but was supposed to be temporary until a use was found for the space. But yeat there are a few other locations. The reason this one is selected is becuase its: a) next to a big underused parking garage b) next to a hotel, which could be used by out-of-town hockey fans coming in for Away games. The idea is to use the hotels food service operation to also serve the arena. c) next to the convention center, which would provide "synergy" of some sort.
