I'm actually not a fan of that getting demo'd for a park.  Needs more density.  Something built up to the sidewalk, more townhomes like Waverly Station.  If that parcel is going for so cheap, I can't believe someone hasn't tried to build more residential units there.  Making that a park really blows up the street corridor of what is pretty strong along the rest of Franklin...

Well if we are gettng into what we want, Id like to see a Trader Joe's or American Apparel...but the reality is that Uncle Dee's has been sitting there empty since i have been in the neighborhood.  If it is to be developed some day, I am sure it will., but for now a pocket park is great use of space.  There is alot of area to be developed that I am sure they will focus on first.

Seven new townhomes between 150k-300k are being built on the corner of 54th and Herman. "Harbor view". Construction starts in June, across street from Tina's, great add to this part of the hood.

Next phase of Battery Park (H1 building) has begun before the previous phase has finished. 5 of the 7 units are already sold.

Near west theatre construction along well.

Those are all minor projects as far as DS goes. The work in this area is insane right now. Get in while you can

Thanks, my great grandparents lived in this neighborhood when they first came to America.  Its nice to discover my roots.  I'd love to be able to buy something in the neighborhood, maybe some day.

There is a meeting at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel next Tuesday March 4 to hear the Cleveland Metroparks plans for Edgewater Park this year and in the future.  The levy increase was on the ballot in November and passed, therefore increasing their funding.  They have big plans for this space and it could be the elite green space in the state of Ohio if managed correctly.  Detroit-Shoreway has taken a collaborative approach to try and make this park part of the fabric of the neighborhood.  I have asked them to move the meeting start time from 4:30 to 6 PM in order to increase attendance.

Did anyone attend?  I would love to hear the scuttlebutt.

^Interesting.  Looks like it will be right to Luxe in the American Portfolios space?

^^im hearing the Metroparks meeting was more like a open room with multiple stands to walk around and talk to people.  From my neighbors who went, i didnt take much away from it.  I trust the Metroparks will be improving things for a while, i thought they would be more specific with what, but perhaps not.

First Federal Lakewood's announcement lists 6610 as their new location in Gordon Square. I walked by today and noticed that address currently belongs to Chase Bank. So, No more Chase in the neighborhood.

Chase would like to stay and are considering staying.  We appreciate their presence and the branch encouraged us to start a petition, so we did. Even if you dont bank with Chase and just like the infill, please sign the petition to keep Chase in Gordon Square, they would move locations but stay in the neighborhood center.

Waverly only has 1 unit left.  I knew these would sell quickly but WOW!  I'm excited to hear where their next development might be.  There's still some areas left on Bridge Ave that could use a Waverly type project...

I hope that the developer of Waverly ups the quality of his projects. Waverly is decent, but his projects overall don't appear to be made of materials that will weather well.

Here are some pictures from the "shoreway building" private tour we had tonight.  Very exciting.  An incredible building that will see tenants move in on July 1st.  One of the rooms had a fireplace room on the inside where an old bowling alley was...100  years old and as part of the tax credit ruls could not compromise it, so its a part of someones room.  So exciting...please share this place with your friends!  www.shorewayliving.com

Very cool.  Place is half leased already I think, with 3 months till completion

Holy cow, thanks for posting!!

I wonder if they can move sand volleyball to the grass square for now? Those courts are an unfortunate loss.

Surf, the courts will be gone.  the news initially caused some reaction in the neighborhood, but i think we are all moving forward.  Right through the 76th street tunnel down at Edgewater are beach courts, which they are trying to recruit Hermes leagues...so the activity is still there...just trying to get more park goers to come back up through the tunnel.  The current courts will be a very nice green space park...it was bittersweet news, but the courts were never going to be long term.

Thanks for the pictures! That Shoreway Building has some great views.

Thanks for the insight. Was there any sort of explanation behind the decision?

I think gottaplan has the reasons- gottaplan?

gordon square developer begins marketing harborview townhomes

Developer Mike DeCesare had far greater success with the Waverly Station Townhomes than he'd originally envisioned. Anticipating that it would take three to four years to sell and build the units, he was surprised to find that he was able to sell all 22 units in about two years. Now he's getting ready to launch his next development, the seven-unit Harborview Townhomes at W. 54th and Herman Avenue, which offer lake and downtown views.

sure hope this developer starts improving his design--especially with the ridiculous amount of curb cuts. He's killed a number of blocks on bridge with walls of garage doors, curb cuts and awkward set backs where driveway-parked cars have no choice but to block the entire sidewalk.

^Ugh. seriously.  Or time for the city use flex its zoning power to limit the curb cuts.

For the plot of land this is being developed on, i think we should focus on the positives.  finally those ultra modern houses right off the shoreway will have neighbors...and this development will build the resident base on the eastern portion of this neighborhood.  Say what you what about waverly station but they are nie units and have helps the Bridge neighborhood.

This city used to employ back alleys to access rear garages much like Chicago still does. Why is that not a consideration here?

Cold-Pressed Juice Café Coming to Gordon Square

By mid-June, the Gordon Square neighborhood will have its very own juice café, courtesy of Jodi Rae Santosuosso. Daily Press (6604 Detroit Ave.), located across the street from Luxe, will specialize in nutrition-focused cold-pressed juices and blended smoothies that utilize local and organic ingredients.

For the past 10 years, Santosuosso lived in California, where she taught yoga and studied health and nutrition. She returned home to Cleveland to open the business. Up to now, she's been making the juices for family and friends, and selling them to the Black Pig, which uses them in cocktails.

Shoreway Lofts being built in former Globe Machine & Stamping Co. building

W.76th St. historic building set to open in July

CLEVELAND - A four-floor building that began its life as the Globe Machine & Stamping Company was purchased in the late 1980s by the family who own and operate the Pat Catan's stores in three states.

Owner Nick Catanzarite says his family business will soon become landlords to spectacular lofts with views of downtown Cleveland and Lake Erie, following a decision to switch the building's purpose from storage to one and two bedroom lofts. The view from almost every angle out of new windows being installed should be an instant leasing bonus for the apartments.

"We're obviously very excited about the project because of the views, the spectacular views of downtown, great views of the lake," said Nick Catanzarite. "The windows surrounding the building provide views like this one bedroom apartment's. Imagine waking up to this view of downtown Cleveland each morning. We've had tremendous excitement so far and that's why we're over fifty percent leased already."

Congrats Nick.

^LOL so true.  I showed my gf the article and her response was "Wow, they are half filled. That's great!"

^I wonder if Dave Arnold could possibly added any more metaphors to his report.

^LOL.  I noticed that.  Not exactly Walter Kronkite reporting that story.

I'd love to show the site plan and renders but the large images aren't showing up when I click on them. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Looks like a cool project built on a slope.

Renders are actually "renderings."  Smiley face.

I've been looking at that lot for years wondering when it would get developed.  Looks like someone finally decided the time was right.  I think now that NRP has announced their major project for that block between 65th & 58th, there's going to be quite a few more smaller projects taking flight

Renders are actually "renderings."  Smiley face.

And obituaries are obits. And fraternities are frats. And brothers are bros. And pictures are pics. Welcome to the world of social media....

So here's the renders  now that the CPC site is functioning better.....

Those are some of the most bland townhouses being proposed in the City.  Is this the same developer as the townhouses around W58th & Franklin?  Haven't we moved past these sorts of things?

^have to agree and they are on a pretty prominent site off the Shoreway.

Wow those suck. Look how these dwellings meet (or rather refuse to meet) to sidewalk.

They are the architectural version of a "Keep Out" sign.

I'm fine with it.  Keep in mind, it's residential, not storefront.  I don't think anyone would necessarily want their living room or dining room window right at street level with no setback...

Absolutely. Most everyone wants privacy but that shouldn't justify a lack of aesthetics.
