This is a link to a LOT of pictures of the rehab my parents did on their building on W. 69th.  My great-grandparents built it in 1914.  The neighborhood is really changing!

Welcome to Urban Ohio.  That's a great building, I'm glad to see it's getting rehabbed.  We had a poster here a while back- DanB- who if I recall correctly was the owner of that building.  I'm assuming you're his daughter, then?

Too bad. I had dreams of turning that place into a sweet Italian restaurant to complement Stone Mad across the street.

Bet he turns that lot into parking. Building more off-street surface parking in a popular, historic, walkable neighborhood is like the snake eating its tail.

Why so negative, when he's been nothing but good for the neighborhood?  Do you know something we don't?

I've done some investigating, seems there are good and not so good opinions of the family.  A lot done by the Deleva family in the neighborhood, from rehabbing, to demolishing eye-sores, to just seeing that the neighborhood is kept clean and the Italian traditions are maintained.  The not so good is that it may be a little traditionally heavy-handed.

You're right. I felt uncomfortable in posting it, but left it up anyway. My bad.

Slightly (or more than slightly OT) --

But the OLMC Procession will have an altered parade route this year due to the construction.  (They usually come down 70th to Father Caruso dr then back up 69th).

This year they will cut right through the backyard driveway of Casa Belvedere condos.

That gives me the best view ever ..  10 feet right  out my kitchen window! :)

Looks like there was a demo team in asbestos suits tearing out at the brick building at 58th and Herman (S/E corner).  Anyone know what's going on?

__

On an additional note, the demolished building at 67th and Herman now looks to be in the midst of having some decorative landscaping with some winding stones and such.  Will try to remember to post a pic later today.

Interesting. The property is owned by Master Chrome Service Inc. as it has been since at least 1975 (the farthest back the county's online property records go). So there's been no property sale or listing of one yet.

SE corner would be Master Chrome, right?  I heard a whle back that a developer doing another local project was interested in the building on the NW corner....but that was just speculation at the time

Ooop!  Big error on my part.

That would be 58th and Tillman.

sorry

OK guys.  Sorry.  I'm even slower than my prior post made me look.

A bit of time on google maps and I realize that the building at the S/E corner of 58th and Tillman is actually just the southern extension of the Templin-Bradley building at 5700 Detroit.

Well I thing we know what is going to happen to the Industrial building be taken down at the corner of 70th and Father Caruso for the entrance into the park.  As well as the the lot on the north east corner of the current battery park site.

Will cross post in the Shoreway conversion thread

Marous said Vintage is seeing considerable demand for apartments and for-sale homes in the city. Buying activity has picked up at Battery Park, the company's large residential community that overlooks Edgewater Park from a perch between West 73rd and West 76th streets.

Vintage is in the early design stages for a 90-unit apartment building at Battery Park and a 34-unit loft condominium building. Condo construction didn't make sense on the Ohio City site, though, because of the larger size of the project and the need for early buyer commitments.

I think residents are starting to move into the "Shoreway" building at 76th adjacent to Battery Park.  Quite a bit of miscellaneous work still to do but a fantastic project nonetheless.

Vintage has an uphill battle building a 90 apartment building at Battery Park.  The development was planned, marketed & sold as a condo community, not an apartment community.  They will probably have to get the bylaws amended to allow an apartment building and they'll need the residents to agree to make that change.  Stay tuned as the drama unfolds there...

I have a friend slated to move into the Shoreway building.  They are giving new residents staggered times throughout this coming weekend of when they can move in and they are providing some movers to help everyone.

I looked at several units about a month ago and he promised they would be ready by August 1. I didn't know how they'd make it because there was so much work to be done still. I'll never cease to be amazed how fast these guys can work. The windows in this building are incredible.

I know its been a while since you have seen a Cash Mob...but there is one taking place at the Gordon Square Farmers Market on Wednesday, August 6th from 4-7.  If you have the availability, come check out the great vendors and products being sold.  The market repurposed itself this year after a few years on Saturday mornings with only a couple of vendors.  The new Wednesday format has about 20 vendors from fresh locally sourced meats and cheeses, produce grown within a mile of the market, donuts, pies, pickles, arts, pizza, etc.  There will be live music and a great all around atmosphere.  The neighbors would like to promote this market so more people know about it and it can be sustainable for years to come.  Official event invite:

Can you remind me what's going up next to Mariners Watch?  Lots going on in that hood, and I get them all mixed up.

Edit:  I found it.  The Vintage development in the old bathhouse is going up next to Mariners Watch.  I believe they said construction to start next spring.

Does anyone know if the Magnolia Apts renovation will be market rate or subsidized? This is actually a fairly large development and would be a game changer for that area if they were market rate

Well, it's going where the bathhouse is currently. They're surely tearing it down.

Is the bathhouse worth saving?

I tried a flyover on Apple Maps but I didn't see what building this was...

^If your question is does it have any architectural or historical significance the answer is no.  It is an ugly blue box that was built sometime in the 80's and has been vacant for a good while.

That building is only 10 years old.

^I  am pretty sure it is much older than that.

Thanks for the info...not quite the old Roman or Turkish Bath building I envisioned!

Go ahead and level it...

:)

I don't like how there's no street view on Apple Maps...but the fact that CLE is only city in Ohio to have the 'flyover' mode is pretty cool...

The speed of development in this neighborhood is amazing.  It's not just bars and restaurants either.  It seems like any given street you walk down you'll pass multiple houses being renovated.

craft sandwich and beer bistro planned for gordon square will offer delivery service

It seems there's a new venue with reclaimed wood and industrial furnishings opening up every day on the near west side of Cleveland. Yet Jon Mavrakis, who is opening up the new craft sandwich and beer bistro Local West in Gordon Square with his dad and brother, says his new eatery will fill a gap in the marketplace. Every sandwich will be locally sourced, and they'll be priced between $8 and $14. Local West also plans to offer delivery service, something that is not widely available.

Go West, Young Man: Ohio City Mainstay Matt Stipe Sets Up Shop in Detroit Shoreway with Banter

Matt Stipe was the first person Sam McNulty hired when he was opening Bier Markt way back in 2005. Stipe stayed on for years, helping to open Bar Cento, Market Garden Brewery and Nano Brew along the way. He's been in the "business" for half his life, boosting his spirits sophistication with stints in Chicago, New York and Denver. And soon, he'll endeavor to make his own mark on the Cleveland food and drink scene when he opens Banter on the western edge of the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood.

It's great.

I am particularly excited about Banter.        Craft beer and poutine... what's not to like!

The best part about those two new establishments is that they are at the far western fringe of Detroit Shoreway. A block or two to the west and it's into Cudell. Hopefully within 5 years redevelopment can finally break past the intersection of Detroit and Lake.

Amen.  Connection connection connection!  Something Cleveland has been lacking in this urban regeneration!

Here's hoping! I still think the east side of the hood will win out in the connectivity race.

Probably true as Ohio City has much more buzz, but then again Clifton/Baltic and Edgewater have a history of neighborhood stability, and the Enhance Clifton project is quickly breathing new found energy back into it.

Agreed.

That stretch of Detroit between Lake and the RTA is rough.

Maybe someday those houses N of Detroit on that section will become more desirable.

It's gonna take quite a few "pioneers" or it would need to be a rapid flip. There's quite a bit of crime and such in that stretch. I don't remember the housing stock very well...Google Maps here I come.

Gordon Square was pretty rough 10 years ago too.

I don't know about the general housing stock, but there are some decent buildings that front Detroit. And if I recall correctly, there's a big empty lot across from Cocktails (could be wrong, haven't been there in a while), and that could be ripe for a Battery Park-esq development if that stretch starts to improve.

But I think in order for the neighborhood to connect on the west side, something needs to be done with that Happy's Pizza and Burger King (next to the soon-to-be Local West). If that whole lot could be demolished and turned into some apartments with retail, it could be a game changer.

Need a lot more development on the North side of Detroit before you see significant spillover on the other side.  Some nice housing on Franklin & Clinton near 65th plus the infill of townhomes at Waverly station...  I think we'll start to see it reach a tipping point of income to support a few more basic service retail stores.

I agree. We have the block of buildings just east and then it dies around Lake. I did a street level view and as of a few years ago, the housing looks decent. Definite opportunities for redevelopment and lots of brick apartment buildings. I don't see Happy's going anywhere as they just built it a few years ago I think (unless it was a reno) and the empty land you speak of is Trinity West I believe which has been available for quite some time.
