March 20, 20187 yr Amazing aerial: Wow - this really shows the degree of development that has happened over the past few years and is happening right now. Crazy how almost the entire run down the shoreway appears to be brand new - mostly high-density housing.
March 20, 20187 yr I travel the Shoreway (driving or #55) between my Lakewood home and downtown office. And every time I travel I'm blown away by how so much new stuff is visible along my entire route -- with more coming. March 20, 20187 yr ^Agreed, it extends from 25th to the Clifton exit now as well, quite incredible and encouraging
March 27, 20187 yr So I was on a run today and somehow ended up behind the Cleveland Soap Box Derby just to see what was between there and the olde river yacht club. There's a rather large and beautiful parcel of land with lots of old trees that looks to have been recently staked out and it also looks like at one point recently there were lots of homeless people living there who appear to have left. This is some pretty amazing land and I would imagine a developer might be looking to construct something here. Anyone have any idea who owns this or what is slated to happen?
March 27, 20187 yr It's two parcels, both owned by the City of Cleveland. One of the parcels includes the finger of water just above your red outlined area. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
March 27, 20187 yr pretty sure that is another site where the sewer district will be doing lots of work
March 27, 20187 yr Unless plans have changed its most likely this: Great Lakes Towing, shipyard could expand onto 10 acres of Cleveland waterfront land http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2016/04/great_lakes_towing_shipyard_co.html
March 27, 20187 yr ^ The City of Cleveland Authorizes the Sale of Property Adjacent to The Great Lakes Towing Company Headquarters for the Expansion of Great Lakes Shipyard in Order to Operate at Full Capacity Year-Round 06/22/2016 The City of Cleveland unanimously approved an ordinance authorizing the Directors of Economic Development and Public Utilities to enter into a Project Agreement with The Great Lakes Towing Company for the sale and development of property located generally at Crescent Avenue and West 53 Street adjacent to Great Lakes Shipyard at 4500 Division Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. The land acquisition consisting of Parcels A, B & C will take place in three (3) phases. The expansion of Great Lakes Shipyard will include an approximately 68,000 square foot facility that will accommodate the state-of-the-art 770-ton mobile Marine Travelift crane (the 3rd largest in the world and largest on the Great Lakes) in order for the Shipyard to operate at full capacity year-round. The expansion will also include relocation of the current parking lot to make way for reconfiguration of the company’s existing site, to further increase efficiencies and capacity. Damen Partnership The Great Lakes Towing Company & Great Lakes Shipyard have entered into a partnership with Damen Shipyards, in which Damen will provide engineering for its proven designs and Great Lakes Shipyard will receive full construction, design and engineering support from Damen. Great Lakes Shipyard plans to build two (2) new Damen-designed tugboats each year for the next five (5) years at the Shipyard’s facility in Cleveland, Ohio. Additionally, Damen will provide design and engineering services for the expansion of the shipyard and new 68,000 square foot facility. http://thegreatlakesgroup.com/2016/06/22/the-city-of-cleveland-authorizes-the-sale-of-property-adjacent-to-the-great-lakes-towing-company-headquarters-for-the-expansion-of-great-lakes-shipyard-in-order-to-operate-at-full-capacity-year-round
March 27, 20187 yr Actually pretty cool that they will be building boats here in town again - having an active shipyard is a neat feather to have in your hat.
March 27, 20187 yr Actually pretty cool that they will be building boats here in town again - having an active shipyard is a neat feather to have in your hat. They have been building all along. Launched last May: The tug Cleveland, specially equipped for ice operations. Remember: It's the Year of the Snake
March 28, 20187 yr Looks like you nailed it. I'm happy there's more industry in the area and all that but part of me is bummed the land isn't being utilized for something residential. Oh well.
March 28, 20187 yr ^because of the proximity to the water treatment plant, the smells are not too pleasant at that location.
March 30, 20187 yr You don't want to live downwind from the sewer plant With all of the North-East winds over the last week those of us in Battery Park/ Father Caruso have been getting a nice whiff of the treatment plant lately. (Glad the prevailing winds are westerly :) )

April 3, 20187 yr 1. I LOVE the art, it’s cool! 2. I HATE the location. It feels in the middle of nowhere.
April 3, 20187 yr It looks like some whimsical Target Store sign. As if Target bought Big Fun and opened in a former Burger King....
April 3, 20187 yr It looks like some whimsical Target Store sign. As if Target bought Big Fun and opened in a former Burger King.... Why could't that Chinese satellite have landed directly on this Burger King in the middle of the night?
April 3, 20187 yr It looks like some whimsical Target Store sign. As if Target bought Big Fun and opened in a former Burger King.... Hopefully it will distract some truck driver. And he’ll run it over.
April 4, 20187 yr It looks like some whimsical Target Store sign. As if Target bought Big Fun and opened in a former Burger King.... Hopefully it will distract some truck driver. And he’ll run it over. I'm ok with the sign. The Burger King can take a direct hit, however. Actually I'm not sure how it stays in business. The one time I went there anytime recently I waited over 15 minutes for my order and I was the only one in the drive through. Someone should knock it down and put up some mixed use buildings.

Sounds good to me. The challenge is convincing the owner (who lives in Fla) to sell it.
April 4, 20187 yr That whole corner surrounding Detroit/Lake is a challenge. You have the BK / Lucky's pizza parking lot complex, then across lake you have a beaten down gas station, and then two empty fields on opposite ends of the Blazing Saddles block. It'll be a major turning point if any of these spots see some new investment.
April 4, 20187 yr The loss of the Delahunt building in that fire a year or so ago was a huge blow to the intersection. That being said, there is some definite development potential now that the entire block between W75 and W77 is now open. What's the plan for the land where the old part of Watterson-Lake was demolished?

April 9, 20187 yr Yesterday, Matt Zone posted on Nextdoor that "The extension of Battery Park drive, between W. 70-73 will begin in 2018." So I was walking around on 73rd this weekend checking out the construction. It looks like they are burying the wires along about a 100 ft stretch of the West side of W 73rd street opposite Gateway Ct. (South of Frascati). I'm guessing that is to allow the new street between 70th and 73rd.

April 30, 20187 yr One of the dumbest things I've seen in a while. Yes it sounds like it's happening.
April 30, 20187 yr One of the dumbest things I've seen in a while. Yes it sounds like it's happening. While I give it credit for providing more shelter than the bus stops, yeah, it's still terrible.
May 1, 20187 yr Ranks right up there with the Rock-o-meter! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
May 1, 20187 yr ^Have you seen the dirty, washed out orange dancing carrots that line pearl in old Brooklyn? They actually spent money on those things
May 1, 20187 yr I am completely confused on this paddle ball engineering. How will this structurally hold up in high winds? This is nothing but a bad ripoff of classic Claes Oldenburg sculptures. Lastly it looks as though it blocks the sidewalk path. Yet another project LAND Studio is a part of.
May 1, 20187 yr I live very close to this intersection and I am NOT looking forward to seeing that tacky sculpture everyday. I know many talented artists who are struggling to find success, and yet we still have crap like this getting approved.
May 1, 20187 yr The guy that designed it isn’t even really an artist from what I understand, his only credentials are that he owns Super Electric.
May 1, 20187 yr LAND Studio has been involved with some of the best (Public Square) and certainly the worst (speakers downtown) pieces in the landscape. No level of consistency to expect great things from their management.
May 1, 20187 yr ^this project is from the City's Percent for Art program. LAND studio manages the process (as a contractor manages the construction of a house), but the artists and projects are voted on/selected by the City's Public Art Committee.
May 1, 20187 yr I like the speakers downtown....I just wish that they would actually USE them!!! You can't go anywhere in Nashville without hearing music. We should finally embrace that we are the Rock and Roll hall of fame city...Play music!!!!
May 1, 20187 yr I like the speakers downtown....I just wish that they would actually USE them!!! You can't go anywhere in Nashville without hearing music. We should finally embrace that we are the Rock and Roll hall of fame city...Play music!!!! Difference between Nashville/Austin and Cleveland is that the music is usually live. You can seldom go to a bar in either city and not find live music.
May 1, 20187 yr Absolutely true, YABO......They embrace it. I wish more of our bars and clubs had live music. But since they spent money on the speakers, use them for more then 1 minute an hour!!
May 1, 20187 yr Maybe it's time, in light of recent corruption news, that other entities besides LAND could perhaps get involved? And maybe there should be more focus on programming in our public spaces, with less emphasis on ugly installations.
May 2, 20187 yr The guy that designed it isn’t even really an artist from what I understand, his only credentials are that he owns Super Electric. I'd love to hear what credentials are neccesary for someone to be an artist. Like, really an artist.
May 2, 20187 yr The city of weird art installments! Bring them all on I say. Paddle ball statue, Superman, Free Stamp, Bicycling Vegetables...
May 2, 20187 yr Don't forget the chandelier. I agree with you, I say bring them on, I don't mind the paddle ball at all.
May 2, 20187 yr And don't forget the nightmarish "politician" lurking behind CSU's business school. I don't think Superman is weird though. That's the one I wish we had!
May 2, 20187 yr The city of weird art installments! Bring them all on I say. Paddle ball statue, Superman, Free Stamp, Bicycling Vegetables... Right! I think it's hilarious people get so worked up over trivial things such as this. Move on already..
May 2, 20187 yr I propose that we start licensing artists, and only C.P.A.'s (Certified Professional Artists) be allowed to practice art.
May 2, 20187 yr Nine new townhomes coming to W57th just south of Lorain in Detroit Shoreway. These prices are by the far the highest we've seen in this tiny sub section of the neighborhood: https://www.howardhanna.com/Property/Detail/SUB-LOT-2-Side-St-Cleveland-OH-44102/NorthernOH/3993307
