They’re definitely an improvement, but they won’t be respected. The city made them so low, and instead of leaving the center for plantings, they’re filled with concrete. They’ll be really easy to drive over.

I’m going to be kind and reserve judgement lol. I think they may actually help, even if I wanted more.

After taking a closer look this afternoon, the curb height on the roundabout is maybe a little more than 1 inch high. They’re creating a disaster. The only stoplight is at 65th. This needs to be addressed while it’s ongoing.

These won’t slow down the people they’re trying to slow down.

Ya. But it's tall enough so that the normal morons in their dodge chargers will bottom out and destroy their cars.

Not gonna lie, when I go lights and sirens to a run I drive right over the sides of the traffic circle at MLK and 116th. However, since that circle has been put in we have had one accident over there. It used to be once weekly. So let's have some faith.

Looks awful. How to address?

that's a great look for all those people on Franklin that complained.

Walz library demo has started. Didn’t get a chance to snap a pic.

I’m starting to lose track of people mentioning to me they’d like to rent a place in Gordon Square, by the main strip, but there’s absolutely no market rate housing available. Everything is income qualifying.

Waverly & Oak will help, but still not in the center of things.

The Subway/Georgios seems like a no brainer for a 3-4 story mixed use building. And isn't there still some fairly large surface lots east of W65?

Speaking of W65, south of Detroit the land-use is not optimal. It could sure use some urban redevelopment in place of what seems like a quasi-suburban dead zone.

I agree. This area of Detroit could easily absorb the kind of infill housing developments we’re seeing on Larchmere.

I fear Jenny Spencer wants nothing like that.

Edited by marty15

If you think the W73 opposition was bad, multiply it x3 and that is what you'd see with development near Clinton and Franklin.

Realistically, I think the stretch most primed for infill is Madison Ave from West Blvd to W65.

Agreed. I live over here. The train station is only a 10 minute walk down Madison for me and there are a LOT of empty lots. Infill ‘er on down. I doubt any of my neighbors will show up to the town hall meeting complaining about whatever it is people complain about

Some improved bike infrastructure leading to Zone Recreation Center/Red Line Greenway would help kickstart this area, I would hope.

Well, looks like this is starting with the new address of 1270 West 58th (across from the Parkview). I must have missed the design review on this uninspiring structure from DIMIT.

No building permits submitted either. And I don't remember a design-review meeting. The developer, Krueger Group, had a neighborhood meeting for this project which I wrote about at the link below.

Its housing on a side street, for people to live in.  Looks like it will fit in nice with the neighborhood.  It has nice balconies, ground level windows, and a nice human scale.  Why does it have to be "inspiring"?  That seems like the most frivolant of all possible measures for resisential architecture to me.

I actually like these and how they fit in with the neighborhood.

I'm ok with the look - in fact, it completely fits with the the immediate area. I'm just not a fan of the color - or lack of. That's what turned me off at first. Why should it look just like the storage facility/law firm next door? I'm not looking for South Florida, but a little contrast to make things pop could do wonders. Just my personal taste.

Sorry for not being clearer in my opinion earlier. Multi-tasking on a Friday, ya know?

Just got back from walking my dog and watched a guy in a pickup truck fly over the mini round about and briefly get up on two wheels.

This is going to be really bad.

Love it! Has this been run through the mill yet? I knew there were plans for that corner, but not much else.

At least it doesn’t have a dozen different claddings like the townhomes across the street!

Yeah it is!

Remind me what the reasoning is behind not building this thing up to a normal height? I live on the east side in an area with at least four or five roundabouts within a square mile of my house, and none of them look anything like this atrocity.

Agreed the immediate neighbor it’s doesn’t contrast well but it does contrast well against cyan park on the other side of the storage place

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there’s only 1 currently. This looks like a different concept.

I like how there is a car about to drive over the roundabout at Franklin Circle. Also, why is there a stop sign there?

Completely disagree - I think in general Ohio City / Detroit Shoreway has capacity for 5-6 of them. Flight is a very specific concept.

Toast is also a really good restaurant, with cocktails.

cities routinely have bars on every corner so I don't see why we can't have more room for wine bars too! I love all my alcohol choices equally except hard cider bleh ;)

I think the stop sign is temporary. Currently there is only traffic coming Westward down Franklin but it's over in the Eastbound lane, so the circles aren't fully functioning as intended yet.

With the way Gordon Square is growing (despite of Jenny Spencer & NIMBYism), the neighborhood will need more of EVERYTHING.

Every retail spot in Gordon Square center is occupied.

The apartment building where the new Walz complex is going is being taken down right now.

Fun / terrible story lol:

I was walking the dog the other day, and a lady on West Clinton between 58th and 65th (who has a sign in her yard about accepting all races, cultures, religions, orientations, etc.) was complaining about "that Puerto Rican restaurant and the discount Latino shoe shop" taking up good spots that could be occupied by better shops.

That Puerto Rican restaurant is a gem. Soooo good. Lindor would frequent there in his Indians days.

So good. For those that don't know, do yourself a favor and stop in Rincon Criollo.

The amount of vacant land around the Detroit/Lake intersection is crazy.  I hope something materializes soon for any of those lots (WattersonLake, 74th/Detroit, 75th/Detroit, Burger King, Happy's Pizza.)  For all the progress of the last 1-2 decades, it's pretty amazing that you still have these huge swathes of empty land in the middle of one of the more in-demand neighborhoods of Cleveland.

I would say it isn't really in the middle, but on the edge.  Things are moving in that direction, though, and the time for that land to be redeveloped is here.
