While both occurred on different sides of Breakwater Avenue, one sale was of a former light-industrial property that was redeveloped with residential a little more than five years ago. The other sale was of a light-industrial property that has been destined for years to become residential and may now be on a faster ride in that direction. READ MORE https://neo-trans.blog/2023/01/12/lakefront-properties-change-hands/ Glad to hear they are going residential! That map made me wonder when we will hear more about HKM. Have there been many updates since it was sold a few years ago? Hopefully the owners aren’t just speculating.
January 16, 20232 yr A for sale sign popped up on the vacant parcels on the south side of Detroit at the Lake-Detroit intersection. That whole intersection is just begging to be built up.
January 16, 20232 yr Apologies if someone else posted about this but I noticed today there is a dumpster permit posted outside the old Romanian(?) church at 1416 West 57 for Forest City Restoration
January 18, 20232 yr St. Augustine/Catholic Charities continues its impersonation of the Cleveland Clinic by demolishing its surrounding neighborhood. The beautiful 32 unit walk up apartment building on West 80th is currently being taken down. The remaining 2 homes on Elsa are slated to be next. Some residents on West 81st have also been made offers on their homes. Anyone have any info on what their plan is other than parking? So disheartening to see.
January 18, 20232 yr The one with the beige brick?! Who even allowed this? thats a fantastic building

January 19, 20232 yr Cleveland honestly takes 1 step forward and one step back. Can't have a 15 minute city if you allow demolitions of large savable buildings such as this. Disheartening tbh.
January 19, 20232 yr The first level of the last townhome phase in Battery Park has begun getting framed in this week.
January 19, 20232 yr so what's the final count on number of houses/units in this whole development? Seems they really crammed a lot of people in this small development which is great for density! Especially being able to house so many people within a 5 minute walk to edgewater park.

Did they just go about tearing it down without any approval?
January 27, 20232 yr Does anyone know the story with the work happening on 65th? I saw them take down a few trees today, and I’m wondering if anyone has seen plans for what will happen on that lot. Assuming it’s a single family? I think the property is roughly across the street from Toast.
January 27, 20232 yr Ha! It must be a law that every project in this town has to start with cutting down some trees. How we do it in the 216 baby.

February 1, 20232 yr I still think the Welleon build is one of the most underrated projects in the city right now. As I sit at Astoria, across from this massive structure, I can't help but think of the massive street presence this building already has. Welleon is really going to wake up an important part of town. This stretch of Detroit has some great spots, but it still doesn't feel like a neighborhood on its own. I think this development will change that immediately!
February 1, 20232 yr Exciting stuff! I like to think about which cool neighborhood in CLE is going to be completely built-out first. That would make a neat poll. But Detroit-Shoreway sure is moving fast.
February 1, 20232 yr Great pics, @clandman1123. I've been surprised at the lack of progress photos posted here for this project. Glad to see the progress and big impact on the neighborhood!

FWIW I also think they deserve some credit for not [fully] blocking the bike lane for construction. Probably the best project along a main route, in that regard.
February 1, 20232 yr City of Cleveland releases Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Watterson-Lake School site in the Gordon Square Arts District Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023 — Cleveland — The City of Cleveland will soon acquire ownership of the former Watterson-Lake School site through a land transfer with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD). The site will be made available for redevelopment through a Request for Proposals (RFP) process, which opens today, Feb. 1, 2023. February 3, 20232 yr Took photos for them a few months ago while they were pouring a floor. The building is so much larger than the pics convey.
February 13, 20232 yr Wow. That Westinghouse water tower building is bigger than I thought. That would make for a very nice two-story restaurant. 😉 "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
February 14, 20232 yr Some Welleon updates. PS, anyone figured out what the name means? Hasn’t grown on my quite yet

February 14, 20232 yr I love the new street wall feel the last phase of BP and Station 73 has created coming up/down W73. Very impressive!
February 14, 20232 yr the welleon explanation is pretty amusing developer gymnastics, but i like it and like that they did it. i’ll take it as rather more thoughtful than the classic cynical tearing out a forest for a development and naming the streets maple and oak. of course the best thing they can do to honor the past is make a very good urban project and by all accounts they are doing that.
February 15, 20232 yr Westinghouse demo is moving along very quickly. Here are five shots from yesterday morning, one from this morning (before sunrise and blurry), then another from around 8:00 AM today Yesterday AM Today (sorry for it being unfocused) Today - 8:00 AM - ish
February 16, 20232 yr I don’t recall there being actual renderings. Are all of those going to be windows where the plastic covers are? If so I think that will look great.
February 16, 20232 yr Vital signs: Yesterday, I went to Gypsy Beans. The parking lot behind it and that behind the Capital Thheater were completely full. I did luckily find a space on W65th. There were people walking around. It was cool to see. It's ALIIIIIVE. I did notice that Boiler 65 was gone. I didn't remember that.

Im surprised Boiler 65 made it so long. The hours were sporadic, and the service was never good. Fortunately, it looks like someone snatched up the space already. Noticed work going on in there the other day. Edited February 16, 20232 yr by marty15

I was there Saturday afternoon - it was sunny but brisk and there were quite a lot of people walking around. Plus, Gypsy Beans was getting a good amount of traffic in and out. Side note, they have some great specialty coffees if that's something you dig!

Cafe's like Gypsy Beans that offer more than just coffee but sandwiches and salads, etc. are so important to urban fabric. I'm so happy to have that there and especially happy to see some new cafes adopting the model (The Judith on W 52 and Lorain is amazing/Edda on W 25th).

February 21, 20232 yr Oh, I also set up a webcam. I've been wanting to set up one for my weather station anyway, but do not have an all-weather camera with night-vision picked out (I am certainly open to suggestions though). Anyway, this is a cheapy cam, but will serve its purpose: https://www.myearthcam.com/clevoplanner

February 24, 20232 yr Looks like my source at XYZ wasn’t quite right. Wouldn’t be surprised if this is owned by Blue Habanero though, given their expansion on E 4 with Blue Agave and additional Blue Habanero locations in Strongsville and Brecksville.
February 24, 20232 yr Good seafood spots are def few and far between in Cleveland! Great neighborhood addition.
February 27, 20232 yr A huge blow to the neighborhood. Stockyard Meats is closing. That was my weekly go to. Gut punch. Edited February 27, 20232 yr by marty15
