Posted February 12, 200916 yr Here are photos from when I lived and taught English in Italy. Granted, Cinque Terre and Portofino are fairly well known, but the Ligurian coast-line is often overlooked as an Italian destination. Hope you enjoy. Genova: the ancient maritime power and banking center. Aerials Centro Storico: the 2nd largest medieval city center in Europe Looking south to Portofino Looking north across Porto Antico towards the French border La citta' Columbus's House Porta Soprana: the ancient gateway into the city Piazza de Ferrari Palazzo Ducale (Duke's Palace) A friend's house Piccola piazza Piazza Fontana Marose Piazza della Vittoria (built by Mussolini) Chiesa San Lorenzo; British bomb landed inside but did not detinate and is still there My area... Belief that this is formed by their seclusion from the rest of Italy (located between the sea and hills) and their origins as a banking center. Other Italians say the Genoese have bracci cortini, which means "short-arms," on account of their inability to reach their pockets for money. Girls on the bus going home for lunch Pure innocence Enjoying their gelato (favorite picture ever) Possibly my lone contribution to Italian society: the art of shot-guning a beer
February 12, 200916 yr Great pics. I've been to Genova a few times - the last was in 2004 when there was a big celebration because the city was declared the European Capital of Culture - I recall they did a lot of improvements along the waterfront.
February 12, 200916 yr Grat pics man! Now the next time someone complains about a skyscrapper in downtown show them the first two pictures from this set. That is density!
February 12, 200916 yr Anderson, you're right. They completely redesigned it for that event. Everyone else, thanks for the compliments. I will post my pics on the rest of Liguria and il Sud when I have time.

February 13, 200916 yr Thank you for posting those; they're beautiful photos, and the places are interesting to see.
February 14, 200916 yr Great pictures. When I traveled through that area, I only made it to una terra, with plans to hike along the coast to some of the others, but I came down with some horrible respiratory ailment and had to turn back. Still, it was striking. We skipped Genova, but now I wish we hadn't.
February 14, 200916 yr very good. we've driven over along the coast from france, hung out and stayed overnight a couple times -- in san remo & in finale liguria. thinking about it, one thing that stands out on the coast around there is the automatic car parking garages, which are fairly common. anyway for vacations italy is can't miss!
