This is a kinda old article (June) scanned from, I guess, the Springfield News-Sun.

The article was cut out of the paper by a friend's mother.

A lot of towns have had these theaters. It is cool to see Springfield's last remaining theater back in action. (Well, other than being a seedy bingo hall).

As part of last year's annual Holiday in the City, the State Theater on Fountain Ave. was opened for the day as a sanctuary from the cold, where visitors could get warm while viewing such holiday classics as "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", "Miracle on 34th Street" and "A Chariie Brown Christmas".

The opportunity for the theater to again provide film entertainment was provided by Rod Hatield, working with the Center City Association.

Hatfield, founder of the fledgling OhIO New Media Center in Springfield, is the native son and Seattle-based expert who has developed a reputation in high tech visual presentations. His Coactive Media company puts on shows for everything from concerts to new product unveilings and art exhibits.

New Hope World Mission to renovate State Theater

Church to hold worship services, provide a food pantry and offer entertainment bingo at the theater.

A new tenant has moved into the State Theater, once a glamorous movie house downtown.

The theater most recently housed the OH10 New Media Center.

Now New Hope World Mission uses the space. It has applied for a bingo license and intends to use that money to renovate the theater and support its charitable works.

State Theater lacks activities, entertainment for community

By Andrew McGinn

The State Theater started out showing silent movies — now the downtown landmark has entered its 80th year just as quietly.

A local church, New Hope World Mission, had moved in as a tenant last spring with big plans to restore the building as it both entertained the community and served its spiritual needs.
