Posted February 18, 200916 yr Merion Village is the largest neighborhood in the city's south side, including neighborhoods east of Parsons. This tour goes down High, then all around. It's a large neighborhood, so there's a quite a bit of variety. Forget all those bricks: we're not in German Village anymore. As long as S. High St. is dominated by cars, it'll never reach its potential. Hiding between these two buildings... Rowhomes! Every now and then you just wanna go Notice the numerous homes-turned-businesses. The other, less collegiate location of Buckeye Donuts. A trifecta of car culture; a used car lot, billboards, and a KFC. What more could you ask for? Now we're off of High. Like this one quite a bit. Anything and everything Merion Village-related. Some unique curb extensions. Err... Eww... Much better. Next UrbanOhio Columbus meetup? Anyone? I'll end this on a high note. Well, not that high. Forget church. This is more like it. So there you go. Next up, I venture even further south; Hungarian Village and Reeb-Hosack.
February 18, 200916 yr Eh...I don't care for this too much. With flat cities, you really have to have a great built environment to create a visually satisfying place. That is why German Village and the Short North and Italian and Victorian Villages are so great.
February 18, 200916 yr A lot of run-of-the-mill structures, but some very good stuff, too. There's a lot of potential there. Realizing it probably requires reducing the width of the street and planting some trees, either in a boulevard strip or by extending the curbs and creating a tree lawn/park strip/whatever you call it in Columbus. I realize it's winter now, and most northern places look better in summer, but that area looks like it lacks foliage.
