I cannot stand Boehner either.  He tries to come across as such a common sense, straight talk kinda guy, when, in reality, he does not understand what a stimulus is and distorts the truth.  When he threw the stimulus bill in a total "act of defiance," I wanted to vomit.  Where was his b!tching when Bush created the biggest national debt ever?  Where was/is his "concern for future generations" when we're spending billions on Iraq?  ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I went to Boys State with his nephew... thats all i know about him.

I like John Boehner.

There are only a couple of things I would like to have a talk to him about to see why we disagree, but that's the case with me and most everyone.  I disagree with the Democrats in Congress a lot, and I disagree with the Republicans in Congress only about 1/2 - 2/3 as often as the Dems.

I would probably like him if he actually supported throwing pork at Ohio, but I'm sure that he would rather throw pork at Texas along with the rest of the Bush cronies. That's what bugs me about him.

I don't care for him, but he is not nearly the weasel that Eric Cantor is.

I do feel that he actually wants the stimulus bill to utterly fail.  At this point, many Republicans are more worried about their party's image than the economy.  They would love nothing more than for this country to fall in the toilet so they can say "told you so".  Wait.... Bush already put us there.

^It's funny.  I remember when the debate about Iraq was really raging.  My one buddy would try to tell me that the fact liberals want out of Iraq = they want America to fail, and that this was a despicable flaw in liberals.  Of course, I explained to him that wanting to win and wanting out are not mutually exclusive.

Regardless, with the stimulus, I think all the fringe Repubs (Delay, Cantor, Boehner, Palin, Sanford) have put all their eggs in one basket.  Thus, I really think they are crossing their fingers that this fails.  While the Dems have most to gain from a successful recovery, so do moderate/reasonable Rs like Crist and Collins.

I laugh every time I watch this clip...

I don't know what's funny about that clip.  To be honest, the public should have had the 5 days of transparency that Obama promised and none of the stupid pork in it.

^The theatrics of Boehner are hilarious.  I don't care where you stand on the issue...it's funny.

I share his sense of desperation in the video.  No one knows what's really going on in DC and the way the Congressional Dems handled it sucked.  When I start sympathizing with Boehner's theatrics, is the day I start questioning what's really going on.

His omnipresent tan cracks me up.  He represents Miami University in Ohio, not Miami, Florida.

he has a point --- has anyone in Congress read the thing?

---or did they just read the parts they wanted in?

^The tan is a cigarette tan, he is a heavy smoker

The stimulus bill has been in process since October.  If no one read it then they or their staff is pretty lazy.  Sure they didn't get what they wanted, they lost the election.  The Republicans were given far more chances to participate in the process (and even got tax cuts from the start) than the Democrats ever got during Bush's terms.  At least they got something.

Until we figure out how to get rid of the entire lot, there's going to be pork in every appropriations bill.  It isn't just a Republican or Democratic problem.  After all, where were those fiscal concerns before -- the deficit doubled during the six years that the Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and the White House.  To me that was my fiscally conservative representatives way of stabbing us taxpayers in the back.  Thanks guys.

^Yeah, it is correct that they got the newest bill only 24 or so hours prior to his little performance, but it wasn't a complete rewrite.  Congress has had versions of this bill for sometime.  No one reinvented the wheel here...so John Boehner, and his staff, should have been able to go through and review the edits.

There's actually a nifty little thing in Microsoft Word that tracks changes, highlights them, and inserts call out bubble identifying exactly what was changed.  Most government work is done in such a way.

Too bad we didn't have the 5 days to look over the changes like Obama promised.  That was a political fumble on his part.

^That would have been great had it been made public with enough time to look at it.

You're right, but there was a lot of stuff inserted at the end.  Even the quadrupling of federal train spending only happened in the last version.

Back to topic, I wonder if Boehner will run for re-election in 2010.  If he does, I bet he'll retire in 2012.

Yeah, Boehner definitely could have given that speech.

I thought this editorial the DDN put out on saturday sums Boehner up nicely.

Editorial: Boehner flounders for role other than ‘no’

By the Dayton Daily News | Friday, March 13, 2009, 08:08 PM

Bob Schieffer, of CBS: “Why do you think that it’s a good idea to just simply freeze spending?”

John Boehner, R-West Chester, U.S. House Republican leader: “Well, because I think if you look around the country, our economy is struggling. American families are tightening their belt, but they don’t see government tightening its belt.

this guy has provided infinite idiotic quotes in recent months...

how is his name pronounced?

Bay-ner.... I believe

^Yup, that's how you pronounce it...although you can always mispronounce it and claim you had no idea.

Grain of salt required (it's from huffingtonpost.com), but the words are mainly Boehner's:

GOP Budget Proposal: Massive Tax Cut For Wealthy

March 26, 2009 01:21 PM

House Republican leaders called a press conference Thursday to unveil their "alternative budget." While it was thin on specifics, it does include one major policy proposal: a huge tax cut for the wealthy.

Republicans criticize govt. report that right-wing extremists might entice veterans

04-15-2009 8:21 PM

By EILEEN SULLIVAN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (Associated Press) --  Republicans on Wednesday said a Homeland Security Department intelligence assessment unfairly characterizes military veterans as right-wing extremists. House Republican leader John Boehner described the report as offensive and called on the agency to apologize to veterans.

The agency's intelligence assessment, sent to law enforcement officials last week, warns that right-wing extremists could use the bad state of the U.S. economy and the election of the country's first black president to recruit members.

Deep thoughts by Republican's best and brightest.

What an idiot...cows produce methane when they do "their business" btw.

And the Republicans have no answer at this time obviously.

If someone tells me they want to drive their car off of a bridge, and I tell them that's probably a bad idea, would I be an idiot for not suggesting a better place to drive to?

Actually given the specific scenario a better question might be if someone was about to drive their car off a bridge, but realized they could correct their actions, and you told them not to...would you be an idiot for not then suggesting a better alternative?

Tomay-toes, Tomah-toes

I'm just glad Boehner is highlighting the evils of factory-farming and far reaching benefits of a meat-free lifestyle. That's what he was getting at, right?

I am also glad Boehner admitted water-boarding is torture.  He tried to cover it up after the fact by saying he was mocking the Dems characterization of it, but I think that is BS.

I think this is really getting scary.  Whether you are for water-boarding or against it, it is undisputed it is torture.  The rhetoric of Rush and some Republicans is getting incredibly Orwellian, and I am starting to wonder if we are witnessing the beginning of a major breakdown in our democratic, open society.

What have they said that's Orwellian?

Should Bush be imprisoned for allowing waterboarding?  Weren't attacks on LA and else where averted because of the advanced interrogation techniques?  Weren't key Democrats briefed in 2002 about the techniques and were fully supportive?  As part of training, don't we waterboard some of our own servicemen?

No.  The attacks on LA were subverted before water-boarding was put into place.

I think it is becoming Orwellian bc you are hearing people say "it's not torture," or "it's not that bad."

I do not know if we waterboard some of our own servicemen.  However, even if we do, that has absolutely nothing to do with the debate.

Regarding Pelosi being briefed, that is pure speculation so far.  If she was, and she approved, she is guilty, too.  I could care less if it's an R or a D.

Yeah, of course our enemies are going to respect us, and treat their hostages with more respect.  How naive can one be?  Who cares what we do to these people?  They don't care what they do to us.

Like the 4th pirate.  He never should have seen our shores.  They should have gently placed him back in the water, and told him to swim back.

Yup, copy that!!

Because we're better than they are.

Whoopsie-daisy...

John Boehner reads the Constitution. Or the Declaration of Independence. Or something.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Those pesky founding fathers. Some days it's hard to keep their statements straight.

John Boehner, the Republican congressman from southwestern Ohio who also happens to be the House minority leader, addressed a gathering of Republican and Republican-leaning citizens Thursday on Capitol Hill. They were fired up, fighting for the rights guaranteed by America's patriots. So it was only appropriate that when Boehner joined the tea party, he waved a copy of "the Constitution" and read from it.

Except his words were from the Declaration of Independence.

That's gotta be one of those moments where you just fire all your interns, lol.

Could have been worse. He could have accidentally started reading from his copy of Penthouse letters.

At least his errors are harmless slip ups, and not complete derails of the entire economy like a few other people in Washington are currently erroneously making.

^You must be referring to the previous administration

Ram: Is there any way you can make the flag behind Boehner in your avatar flutter?

When I watch Boehner on TV I just feel kind of sorry for him. He gets minority leader more or less by seniority, but I don't think he's ever proven to be a very sharp tack, or even a good orator, in his congressional career. Gotta love the fake tan, too.

He does, however, have a textbook-perfect Ohio Valley accent.

After watching the video, the funniest thing to me was that among these tea party goers - I mean defenders of the constitution - only one of them (an elderly woman) seated behind Boehner even seemed to notice the gaffe.

At least his errors are harmless slip ups, and not complete derails of the entire economy like a few other people in Washington are currently erroneously making.

Amen...among other, uhhh...minor differences of opinion!

Obama rips U.S. Constitution

Faults Supreme Court for not mandating 'redistribution of wealth'

Seven years before Barack Obama's "spread the wealth" comment to Joe the Plumber became a GOP campaign theme, the Democratic presidential candidate said in a radio interview the U.S. has suffered from a fundamentally flawed Constitution that does not mandate or allow for redistribution of wealth.

In a newly unearthed tape, Obama is heard telling Chicago's public station WBEZ-FM in 2001 that "redistributive change" is needed, pointing to what he regarded as a failure of the U.S. Supreme Court under Chief Justice Earl Warren in its rulings on civil rights issues in the 1960s.

^ You need to watch it or this thread will get locked. This is Obama-bashing and needs to go in the correct thread.

^oops, sorry you're right, and I apologize for going off-topic,  but I didn't know that pointing out a major philosophical difference by the President of the United States concerning the most important document governing the nation constitutes "Obama-bashing."
