Oh God, I hope not.  He would do for Ohio's image what Pelosi has done for California's.  And I'm not saying that it would be such a bad thing if the GOP took back the House because I think some more balance would help lower the vitriolic atmosphere in DC.  If that happened, however, I would prefer Speaker Ryan... even Speaker Cantor.  If it's Price or Boehner, you can expect the divide to get bigger.  Those two are good at one thing and one thing only - disagreeing.

Keep this in mind during next week's Presidential address:

Not sure what that video has to do with ole Johnny boy other than it starts off with him.

BTW, it is terribly un-American, IMO, to say that we must not only support the Troops but also support the war.  I couldn't disagree more with the subtext in the video.  If we could go back in time, I would still oppose the invasion..... even more passionately I'm sure.

Not sure what that video has to do with ole Johnny boy other than it starts off with him.

He made the video.

Is that what he does when he isn't smoking cigs on a Phillip Morris private jet on his way to play golf? I remember him saying, in regards to lobby reform and politicians receiving gifts from special interests"No need to ban the gifts. Sunshine is the best antiseptic" This is coming from a guy with the worst spray-on tan in history.

If Republicans would stop taking so many bribes from corporate interests, they'd get a little more credibility. Congressmen were intended to represent their DISTRICT, not some corporation based elsewhere.

Say what you want but Boehner is well known for his fundraising capabilities. I know how you Republicans like to talk about the constitution and founding fathers and all...

You really think corporate interests are bribing people along party lines? What about unions? what about any number of financial companies 2 years ago?

Oh no, it'll never be strictly along party lines because it's always more important to get in good with your enemy, not your friend.

The Republicans have a worse reputation for it, at least on Capitol Hill. They've been the ones protecting special interests funds/perks from full transparency. I'm not a Democrat or a Republican; I have no reason to defend Dems. I hate plenty of 'em. Boehner is one of the biggest corporate wh_res out there. It's ironic because when he started out, he was known on The Hill as the underdog, the outsider from a modest background. That all changed around the mid '90s when he sold out.

Here's some interesting info about John Boehner AKA Agent Orange:

Boehner’s District’s Economic Performance History

Ohio 8th District

Most of the 8th District is rural and small town in western Ohio bordering Indiana. Larger cities include: Middletown, Huber Heights, Troy, Piqua, Hamilton, and Fairfield. The district is rural conservative and largely white.

During Boehner’s time in office, Southwestern Ohio in his district has had mediocre to poor economic performance. Ohio’s manufacturing industry was decimated during the Bush years in which Boehner’s terms were coincident.

“FACT CHECK: John Boehner's Attacks on the President's Job Creation Agenda

Today John Boehner proved once again that his party would only take the country back to the failed policies of the past – policies that cost more than 8 million American jobs – and launched a series of false attacks on the measures that the President is pushing to create jobs, invest in our small businesses and cut taxes for businesses and middle class families.

Boehner belittles the jobs and livelihoods of firefighters, cops and teachers. First, Congressman Boehner attacks the jobs bill the President signed last month that saved hundreds of thousands of jobs of hardworking teachers, cops and firefighters, dismissing these hardworking Americans who teach our kids keep our communities safe as “government jobs.”

Boehner claim: “Not long after we spoke, he signed a 26 billion dollar ‘stimulus’ spending bill that funnels money to state governments in order to protect government jobs.”

I highly doubt anyone can legitimately claim that the war in Iraq averted any terror attacks.  I just hope it did not plant the seeds for disasters much worse than 9/11 in the future.

[Estimates Say Fewer Jobs, Larger Deficits if Republicans Were in Charge/b]

Nothing is more important to Republican politicians these days than jobs and the deficit—at least according to Republican politicians. As House Minority Leader John Boehner put it in a "major economic address" on Tuesday, President Obama is "doing everything possible to prevent jobs from being created" while refusing to do anything at all "about bringing down the deficits that threaten our economy." Elect Republicans in November, Boehner assured his audience, and we will put an end to this insanity.

There's only one problem with Boehner's message: so far, the things that Republicans have said they want to do won't actually boost employment or reduce deficits. In fact, much the opposite. By combing through a variety of studies and projections from nonpartisan economic sources, we here at Gaggle headquarters have found that if Republicans were in charge from January 2009 onward—and if they were now given carte blanche to enact the proposals they want to—the projected 2010–2020 deficits would be larger than they are under Obama, and fewer people would probably be employed.

Boehner suggests Obama shouldn't take credit

August 31, 2010 11:03 EDT

WASHINGTON (AP) -- As President Barack Obama marks the end of U.S. combat operations in Iraq, Republicans are suggesting that he be careful not to try to claim too much credit.

House GOP leader John Boehner is telling an American Legion group in Milwaukee today that there are "some leaders" who "fought tooth-and-nail to stop the surge strategy" and who now "proudly claim credit for the results."

He says today's events aren't aimed at commemorating what he calls "the defeat these voices anticipated" -- but instead mark "progress" in Iraq.

Top Republicans push back ahead of Obama Iraq speech

By Jordan Fabian - 08/31/10 09:52 AM ET

Three top Republican lawmakers pushed back against President Obama's Iraq war message ahead his scheduled address on the end of combat operations Tuesday night, hitting the president's previous opposition to the 2007 troop surge.

Republicans have brushed aside the White House's narrative that the withdrawal of combat troops in Iraq fulfills one of Obama's chief campaign promises, and instead have credited former President George W. Bush's deployment of more than 20,000 additional soldiers to Iraq with helping to bring the seven-and-a-half-year-old conflict to an end.

House GOP leader John Boehner (Ohio) is scheduled to speak at the American Legion's national convention Tuesday afternoon, where he will express gratitude to the troops and take a jab at Obama and other Democratic leaders in Congress for expressing skepticism over the surge in 2007.

"When General Petraeus embarked on the surge strategy in January 2007, it was widely viewed as our last chance to save Iraq from spiraling into an irreversible descent toward chaos," Boehner will say, according to excerpts released by his office. "The consequences of failure then, as now, were severe. Some leaders who opposed, criticized, and fought tooth-and-nail to stop the surge strategy now proudly claim credit for the results ... today we mark not the defeat those voices anticipated — but progress."

Boehner Assails Obama on Iraq

By CARL HULSE

In advance of President Obama’s Tuesday night speech on Iraq, Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, the House Republican leader, was set to remind thousands of veterans attending the national convention of the American Legion that Mr. Obama and other Democrats had opposed the military escalation credited with gains in Iraq.

“This day belongs to our troops, whose courage and sacrifices have made the transition to a new mission in Iraq possible,” Mr. Boehner said in excerpts of the speech he was to deliver Tuesday at the legion’s national convention in Milwaukee.

“Some leaders who opposed, criticized, and fought tooth-and-nail to stop the surge strategy now proudly claim credit for the results,” Mr. Boehner’s speech said.

It was the second time in a week that Mr. Boehner, who is line to become speaker should Republicans gain control of the House next year, has taken on the president in a major speech. In an address last week to the City Club of Cleveland, Mr. Boehner called on the president to fire his economic team and assailed the administration’s approach to trying to energize the struggling economy.

Boehner confronts Obama on Iraq

By: Mike Allen

August 31, 2010 07:24 AM EDT

Hours before President Barack Obama’s address to the nation on Iraq, House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio will challenge the commander-in-chief caustically for his handling of the Middle East.

“Some leaders who opposed, criticized, and fought tooth-and-nail to stop the surge strategy now proudly claim credit for the results,” Boehner says in remarks prepared for delivery to the American Legion’s 92nd national convention, in Milwaukee. “[T]oday we mark not the defeat those voices anticipated – but progress.”

The speech follows a Boehner address on the economy last week, as the would-be House speaker updates his policy chops.

Here are additional excerpts from Boehner’s remarks:

On Iraq: “This day belongs to our troops, whose courage and sacrifices have made the transition to a new mission in Iraq possible. … When General [David] Petraeus embarked on the surge strategy in January 2007, it was widely viewed as our last chance to save Iraq from spiraling into an irreversible descent toward chaos. The consequences of failure then, as now, were severe.

On the Middle East: “Iran is more than prepared to sacrifice the well-being of its people for the chance to fundamentally change the balance of power in the region. It is the true source of instability in the region, and we must not naively assume a nuclear-armed Iran would be containable. …

On the economy: “Today, as thousands of our warriors come home seeking to provide for their families and realize the American Dream they have volunteered to defend, they confront an economy that affords neither opportunities nor jobs. Veterans’ unemployment is now at 11 percent . That is why I have called on my colleagues in the Congress and the president to join me in supporting a series of immediate actions to end the ongoing economic uncertainty and help more Americans find an honest day’s work. ‘Stimulus’ spending sprees, permanent bailouts, federal mandates and government takeovers have failed this nation and have failed our veterans.”

Unless you have something to offer (which you don't), I'm going to call BS on that seemingly baseless statement.

Information is worth money. A public forum is the last place anyone would spill scandalous beans. I didn't mean for it to come across that way, I just get sick of people acting like Agent Orange died for our sins.

If you think I don't have access to things, ask ColDayMan whether or not I e-mailed him his SS number. I showed UncleRando his family tree with his extended relatives' names and addresses. It takes about 5 seconds. A while back, people in a thread were discussing all of these Ohio newspapers containing mysterious anti-Islam DVDs. I traced its funding back to AIPAC, Barclays Bank-London's subsidiaries, among others. It's all there. I don't need to impress Scrabble.

It's funny you mention that. I was just reading about Former Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL)'s consideration for mayoral candidacy after resignation from Capitol Hill. While he was banging his under-age Male Congressional Pages, he was also pushing for Anti-Gay Legislation and promoting abstinence. Can you imagine if he wins?! Working in the Mayor's Office would be akin to spending the night at the Neverland Ranch.

Subject matter, time frame, how you found out etc. See what I mean?

See what you mean? Hell no, I don't see what you mean. Now I know where you get your screen name. Every time I read your posts, I'm at a loss of words.

I made myself clear.

1.) There are things about Boehner (and many other politicians for that matter) that would blow people away. You think I'm going to leak some info to an online forum where I'd put myself in jeopardy? I don't think you understand how sensitive or valuable some information is. There's a reason why opposition researchers get paid six figures. (For the record, I'm not one--I wish).

2.) I'm under no obligation to tell you a God D@mn thing. Just drop it, seriously. Look around the internet. You can already find some interesting stuff exposing dirt on Boehner. The thing people should care most about, IMO, is the fact that he doesn't give a sh!t about his constituents. He's done next to nothing for his district, outside of Westchester and the idiots still vote for him.

I don't think you understand how unimportant John Boehner is to anyone on this forum.  It's not like there are informants on here looking out for him.  If I were up to me, he'd be nowhere near a position of power.  Alas, you don't understand.  You wouldn't be in any jeopardy; we're just chewing the fat.

2.) I'm under no obligation to tell you a God D@mn thing. Just drop it, seriously. Look around the internet. You can already find some interesting stuff exposing dirt on Boehner.

Of course you're under no obligation to tell anyone anything.  It would just liven up the conversation or provide a means to validate your claim if a scandal were to break out (which is entirely possible).  So the "interesting stuff" that's already out there, where can I find that?

This is the John Boehner thread after all.

John Boehner Enjoys White House Spotlight

September 7, 2010 2:42 PM

CBS NEWS

...

By calling the speech a response to Boehner, the White House is elevating the relatively-little-known Ohio congressman, who will likely become speaker if Republicans take over the House in the midterm elections.

...

In an e-mail to reporters this afternoon, Boehner spokesman Michael Steel seemed to luxuriate in the White House's move to raise Boehner's profile.

"Clearly Boehner's economic speech in Cleveland two weeks ago struck a chord not just with the American people but also with this White House," he wrote. "Quiz for you enterprising reporters: when was the last time a sitting President of the United States chose to follow the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives to a city and respond to his or her speech? Is it totally unprecedented? (And totally desperate?)"

That article makes some good points.  You'd think that Obama, with his party in complete control of Congress, wouldn't waste time in little debates like this and instead focus on his own priorities. I guess they know he’s going to be giving them a lot of trouble as Speaker for the next 2 years. Instead of bipartisanship, Obama and the Democrats are seemingly going to stagnate things if (when?) they lose the House and maybe the Senate this November.

Instead of bipartisanship, Obama and the Democrats are seemingly going to stagnate things if (when?) they lose the House and maybe the Senate this November.

I wonder if that medicine will taste bitter to Boehner and the rest of his GOP coherts.  Curious question... but I doubt we will get the answer as Obama will do what he has always done since assuming the Presidency and make a good faith effort to reach accross the aisle.

I actually think that the GOP taking back the House and/or Senate could be catastrophic for them.  It has been a while since they gave any material consideration to actually governing a nation and not merely acting as obstructionists in the process.  Let's hope they have some ideas besides putting their filthy government hands on my grandma's medicare.

Don't worry about Medicare, they'll surely pick up where we they left off; trying to convince us that Federal funding of the arts, sciences, PBS, and Amtrak is keeping us from becoming a great nation again.

Too bad they don't think we are a great nation now...

Good for him...

Boehner backs down, says he would support extending tax cuts for just middle class

WASHINGTON — House Republican leader John Boehner says he would support extending tax cuts only for middle-class earners even though he considers it "bad policy" to exclude the highest-earning Americans from tax relief during a recession.

President Barack Obama's top economic adviser said Sunday he is happy that Boehner, R-Ohio, isn't willing to hold hostage an extension of tax cuts for those earning under $250,000 a year, or more than 97 percent of earners, to try to gain a continuation of breaks enjoyed by the wealthiest.

John Boehner: the second of 12 kids from Ohio who is Barack Obama's elitist target

The White House is attempting to cling on to Democratic control of Washington by portraying an Ohio congressman who grew up in near poverty as an elitist country club Republican controlled by wealthy lobbyists.

By Toby Harnden, Reading, Ohio

Published: 8:09PM BST 17 Sep 2010

Mr Boehner's deep tan is often mocked by Democrats. At a dinner last year, Mr Obama said: "He is a person of colour, although not a colour that appears in the natural world."

Like Mr Obama, Mr Boehner is a keen golfer and a smoker. His sister sniggered at the suggestion her brother might ever have been on a tanning bed. The "dark hair and olive skin", she said, came from her mother.

Bob Boehner, 62, the oldest of the 12, who sells real estate and is "looking for work", said: "We were conservative because we had to be. There wasn't the money to spend frivolously on things. We grew our own vegetables up on the hill. We learned early on that if you wanted something you had to go out and work for it."

The wrong target

Democrats are attacking John Boehner, the Republicans’ House leader. He is the least of their problems

Sep 16th 2010

THE ECONOMIST

There is another oddity in the Democrats’ attack. Mr Boehner is precisely the sort of Republican with whom the Democrats will need to work if the mid-terms give America another spell of divided government. In 1994, after Newt Gingrich led the Republicans to their first victory in the House for 40 years, the result was a collision with Bill Clinton’s White House and a government shutdown. This time, too, thanks to the tea-party movement, plenty of the Republican freshmen in the new House will once again be conservative ideologues, relishing another chance to gum up the administration of an activist Democratic president.

The difference is that Mr Boehner is no Newt Gingrich. Bill Galston of the Brookings Institution calls him a classic Midwestern conservative (he represents a western slice of Ohio). Ross Baker of Rutgers University described him on National Public Radio as “an old-fashioned, small-government, country-club, cocktail-drinking, cigarette-smoking Republican.” He is conservative but also practical, and no stranger to bipartisanship. Earlier in his career, as chairman of the education committee, he worked smoothly with Democrats on George Bush’s No Child Left Behind Act. This week he evaded a White House ploy to cast the Republicans as the millionaires’ party when he said that although he would prefer the Bush-era tax cuts to be extended to everyone, he would go along, if he had to, with Mr Obama’s plan to end them for the 2% who earn more than $250,000.

Regardless of background, Boehner has indisputedly been a man in Washington that is not shy about taking $$ from special interest groups.  In fact, didn't he hand out checks ON THE HOUSE FLOOR to fellow republicans from Tobacco company lobbyists?

It's too bad he hasn't shown any desire or ability to work in a bipartisan manner in the last 2 years.

^ Doing so would not be in HIS political best interest.  He is doing quite well for himself doing nothing.

If you're going to make slanderous allegations, at least find someone who is willing to play the "victim".  Having at least one shred of evidence is a good idea too...like a blue dress stained with bodily fluids.

Liberal media goes on attack against GOP's Boehner

The heat is on Republican leader John Boehner.

Liberal media outlets are trying to smear the highest-ranking Republican in the House just weeks before the midterm elections with a deal-breaking scandal before he has a chance to take the speaker's chair from Nancy Pelosi.

A blogger from liberal Web site The Daily Kos pierced through Boehner's security detail at yesterday's unveiling of his leadership policy "Pledge to America" to ask if he was sleeping with a lobbyist from the Printing Industries of America.

...

The lobbyist who was named in the confrontation and then was contacted by he Daily Kos blogger Lisbeth Lyons  denied the accusations. "As you can imagine, I was stunned by such a question," Lyons said. "I found it to be highly insulting, particularly as a female political professional, as well as unfounded. Beyond that, I have no further comment on the matter."

'Yes we can'.... I already posted it in the Tea Party thread, though.  The Boehner part almost made me choke on my GLB Elliot Ness last night.

:evil:I think he looks like a vampire bat............

If I was a Democrat, I'd want Boehner to be the GOP's choice for speaker.

Some nutjob from DailyKos started the "rumor" with absolutely no evidence.

Show me a semen stained dress, at least.

We'll see what NYT has...If it were just the DailyKos guy, I might be a bit more skeptical. But if you remember, it was the highly respectable National Enquirer who broke the John Edwards story.

My money goes on this being legit.

My money goes on this being a desperate and baseless smear.  Not legit.

I don't know why the Left hates him so much.

I hope it's just a smear and that this did not happen.  I'm sick of these types of scandals.

Well Scrabble... at least you don't have to wonder anymore about David's comments from the previous page.

I don't know why the Left hates him so much.

You've got to be joking.  I usually don't click or respond in these political threads but that's just being blind.

I hope the rumors of Boehner's infidelity aren't true. I don't want to deal with this embarassment.

Why?  He'll join the elite club of Washingtonians known as "politicians."

^Scrabble is being sly, not blind.  It takes a minute to pick up on his style.  I believe what he is implying is that Boehner is good for the Democrats and will help Obama get re-elected in 2012.  Whether his reasoning being that Boehner will make such a fool of himself as Speaker and further weaken the political climate, or that he will charge in there and clean things up so the climate is stable for Obama's reelection (a la Clinton in 1996), I do not know.  Knowing him, he may just be trying to cover all his bases with his intentional vagueness.

Boehner: Americans Don't Need to Talk about Solutions Now

In an interview on Fox News Sunday, John Boehner (R-OH) was asked about the lack of solutions, such as for costly entitlement programs like Medicare, in the GOP "Pledge to America." The House minority leader responded that the purpose of the Pledge was to "lay out the size of the problem," not "to get to potential solutions." Boehner reasoned that once Americans understand how big the problem is, then the talk can turn to potential solutions.

Boehner chastized the appearance of Stephen Colbert before a House committee on Friday. "Washington is spending more time with comedians than debating (our) economic future....They have time to bring a comedian to Washington, D.C., but they don't have time to end the uncertainty." It seems that Boehner is content to leave the American people uncertain as to what the Republican's would do to help the economy besides extending the Bush tax cuts.

It would be pretty cynical of Scrabble to think "the Left" should not "hate him so much" because he is politically useful.

^

Now that's cynical. And elitist. And needlessly partisan.

I don't know why the Left hates him so much.

You've got to be joking. I usually don't click or respond in these political threads but that's just being blind.

No, I'm serious.  In light of the fact that there are two political parties in America, the Democrats couldn't ask for a much better opponent than Boehner.  He's no "conservative" let alone "libertarian".  He doesn't take earmarks and is a good party politician but when it comes to advancing limited government he is lacking.

It takes a minute for the fast ones like you Hts ;)

He won't be able to make a dent in the secular/socialist machine.  He will annoy his subordinates and get some backlash from the Tea Party.  All of this depends on whether he remains the same as he's been the past 20 years.  Maybe he's ready to actually put up a fight. Who knows.

This "scandal" has no legs, by the way.  I wouldn't be surprised if one like this did though. He's a sleazeball, but that doesn't mean he's a bad guy.
