Okay, I've never been to the short north (hard to believe since I only live a little over an hour away from it), and I've been to German Village pleanty of times, but what should I see in about a month or so when it's spring?

Schmidt's Sausage Haus in German Village.

 

Thurman's cafe on Thurman Avenue in German Village.  Great Hamburgers.

Again, depends what you like.  Food-wise, there are a bizillion choices but I agree for German Village, Schmidt's + Book Loft = Fun times.

Definitely check out the Short North too, but there are numerous places off of High to check out too on small strips. Parsons just south of Broad,  3rd west of Neil, King Ave East of Neil, Summit south of Hudson. High north of Lane is under construction, but definitely recommended if you don´t mind parking further away and walking.
