Posted March 11, 200916 yr U.S. taking closer look at Akron police Justice Department reviews community complaints following 2 shootings By Phil Trexler, Beacon Journal, March 10, 2009 The U.S. Department of Justice is stepping up its investigation of the Akron police force in the wake of two shootings and the subsequent community fallout. Akron City Council President Marco Sommerville announced Monday that the Justice Department's civil-rights branch intends to review complaints against Akron police. He said he was unsure when the investigation would begin. The move comes as a follow-up to last month's visit in which Justice Department authorities listened to members of the community voice concerns about the Akron Police Department's handling of two shootings in recent years. Chapel Hill has already developed an unfortunate reputation. As an aside, sometimes the de-racialization of suspect descriptions simply looks ridiculous. This is one of those times.
