Five years into leading 3CDC, Steve Leeper known for redevelopment results

Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Lucy May

The Dow keeps falling. Unemployment keeps rising. And the country faces the worst recession in more than a generation.  But even as the economy stalls, Stephen Leeper knows he must keep redevelopment moving.  As CEO of the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp., Leeper leads the private nonprofit’s work in Over-the-Rhine and downtown. In his nearly five years on the job, 3CDC has changed the face of those areas.

The organization revitalized Fountain Square and is transforming historic Over-the-Rhine block by block. The group’s Cincinnati Equity Fund and Cincinnati New Markets Fund have invested $99 million in 3CDC’s redevelopment projects, drawing another $49 million in private investment and $19 million from the city of Cincinnati.

In the next 30 to 60 days, Leeper expects to announce the two funds have raised another $70 million combined to keep 3CDC’s efforts moving. Within the next 12 months, he anticipates construction will begin on a multimillion-dollar underground parking garage across from Music Hall.

Residents rally to protest 3CDC moves in Over-the-Rhine

Business Courier - by Lucy May - Date: Friday, February 25, 2011, 2:53pm EST

About three dozen people gathered in Over-the-Rhine Friday to protest what they called the displacement of residents in the historic neighborhood by the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp.

The group, led by Josh Spring, executive director of the Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless, chanted such slogans as "Housing for people, not for profit" and "Washington Park is our park, not just your park.”

3CDC is working with the Cincinnati Park Board on a $47 million renovation and expansion of Washington Park, which protesters fear will ultimately keep neighborhood residents from enjoying it.

Some would say that landing $46 million of "free" money is quite an accomplishment. Others might say that tax credits are nothing more than redistribution of wealth from one group to another, and all of this redevelopment is really a drain on the economy, not a boost.

At least they are building in the city and not paving another farm in a sprawl area.

Anyone know why 3CDC's website is down?

Others say that the more than $100 billion in annual mortgage interest deductions are far larger subsidies than these much smaller targeted credits and that mortgage interest deduction distort housing investment massively.

You understand that a "tax credit" is not a direct giving of money, right?  Or are you just willfully distorting what is going on with this comment?

It's working again now.

In Over-the-Rhine, 3CDC’s vision extends for decades, not just years

The Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC) plans to be around for a long time to come.

That was one takeaway from reporting Friday’s cover story on real estate prices in Over-the-Rhine and where the neighborhood – and the master developer and owner of most of the OTR properties south of Liberty Street – goes from here.

Just got this from Anastasia at 3CDC:

My email address ([email protected]) has apparently been hijacked to send an email yesterday and today with the subject line:

“3CDC's Stephen Leeper to give announcement on Homeless to Homes plan, 11.20.14, 3:40PM”

I did not send this, and we are not hosting a media event at 3:40pm today. Our IT team has been able to track the sender down to a GoDaddy account using the address [email protected], but appearing to have come from my .org address.

Wasn't there a spoof 3CDC site at one point that mocked 3CDC and its team?

3CDC.net was registered on November 06, 2014 via GoDaddy.

Shame on 3CDC for not grabbing up domain names similar to their real one (3cdc.org).

^ Email spoofing is actually incredibly easy to do and happens all the time. My question is who would go to the trouble to spoof 3CDC for the sake of a homeless agenda??? I can think of maybe two people off the top of my head.

Just saw a posting on the "OTR Residents" FB page by "Anastasia Mileham" about 3CDC's "new" FB page. Suspiciously it directs to 3cdc.net, and the page and her profile are amazingly thin. The first posts on both are the same fake PR mentioned above.

EDIT: and already gone...

EDIT 2: fake 3CDC page still up at the moment: https://www.facebook.com/pages/3CDC/743346805742438

Crazy. Now the fake 3CDC Facebook page is down.

They have a fake Twitter account: http://twitter.com/my3cdc

Here is a photo of the fake "press conference": http://instagram.com/p/vpNmd3gEUU/

I suspect that some of the people using the #WeAreOTR hashtag are behind this. Lots of anti-gentrification stuff being posted, including this photo of a 3CDC sign with the caption: "Investing in our center city...by removing low income and disabled residents from their homes."
