East Walnut Hills off of Madison, just outside of O'Bryonville, but in the other direction....Key's Crescent and the rest are great and easy access.

I would very much echo the Key's Crescent thing - it's easy to find, right off Madison to the south, and it's a little loop - if you miss it, just turn in at the next street! And on the back side of the street is a friggin' castle, which you can easily see from the street. Just park on Madison and walk the little loop...very, very impressive place.

That's my favorite first ring suburban - type street in Cincinnati.

Ooh, I keep forgetting about the Basilica.  These are all wonderful suggestions.  Thanks a lot.

I'm headed up to the map store now where I'll get some markable maps to draw all of these route on.  Keep them coming.  I'll be checking UO throughout the trip, and I'll definitely post picture after.

FYI - I added a day to the trip, and it looks like I'll be going to Pittsburgh on Thursday (and stopping back through Shaker Square on Fri to stalk MTS some more ;) )  Just curious if any of you urbanites have tips on that city (I'm not expecting you to, but I figured I'll mention it)

Thanks again.

Again, does your PO, know you're leaving the state?  :wtf:

I've alerted Cleveland & Shaker Hts. PD's and Shaker Square security.

I've given them several pictures of you. {/covers windows}

Question, you're driving alone??  That is a lot of driving.

PSH, I can take the Shaker PD.  No problem.

Yeah, I'm driving alone.  I plan on leaving in a few hours and passing out at a rest area outside Indianapolis.  I've also scoped out rest areas between Cincy and Pittsburgh for Wednesday night.  Thursday night I was just planning on staying at your place. ;)

PACKED!!!

shotgun blast to follow:

Start in Mt. Adams....take the Eden park way out via Ida (loop around the playhouse and Mt. Adams pool if you want, just for a quick view), out past the Art Museum, follow through Eden Park around Mirror Lake and back up the hill, past the Krohn conservatory, take a quick loop into the overlook on the right...pause and admire view...keep going out, right on Victory Pkwy...go short distance and pass Edgecliff (tall condos) and turn right on Cypress, go in and turn right on Upland Place....follow that out to McMillan. Some good houses in there. Turn right on McMillan, to where it turns left on Woodburn...follow woodburn down to madison (through the old Village fo Woodburn), right on Madison (stop for coffee if you need it here).  Off of Madison, Keys Crescent and Baker Place will be on your right. Also Beechcrest...don't worry if it says private drive.  On your left are interesting streets as well, Dexter, Wold, Annwood etc...follow Madison through to O'Bryonville, right on Grandin just after passing thru OBville...as mentioned above, try exploring some of the streets that snake off of Grandin toward the river...follow grandin around...to Edwards, left on Edwards...follow a bit to Handasyde avenue, left on that...up to Stettinius, right on that...follow down to Observatory...and maybe go right on Observatory and over to HP square for some lunch or another coffee....then head back on Observatory, over Madison to Dana and head into North Avondale.

Haha, you should've seen the look on MayDay's face when I came off the plane with only a backpack for my four day trip to Cleveland.

At least the TSA can't steal all my toiletries this time.

What in the hell has happened to this thread?

MTS happend to this thread!

HUSH or back to Thailand with you!

Now that's a hot mess.  I mean, you didn't even fold the clothes up, I can only imagine what that backpack looked like.

The view from Imaculata Church in Mt Adams, and then a beer on the back deck at the City View tavern on Oregon street in Mt adams...divey bar type place, not chi-chi Mt adams.

Different view not usually seen from Mt Hope park overlook just west of price hill is nice.

Looks like I'll be in Devou Park for sunrise!  I just had a lengthy conversation with Shannon, the barista at the Starbucks in Columbus, IN.  Sounds like they've had an incredibly rough year with a major flood and an economy firmly rooted in the auto industry.  According to Shannon, the jobless rate in Columbus is 26%.  The friendly old lady working with Shannon maintains that it's rough everywhere and that comparatively Columbus is still a great place to be.

I'm glad I picked up a new road atlas before I left.  Apparently a few roads got washed out between Columbus and Greendale, IN.  We'll see.

I just plotted all of the streets you guys gave me on my new Cincy map.  (I can't find Mt. Hope Park though, TheCOV)  Thanks again for all the tips.

Next stop Cincinnati!

Hello again!  It looks like a beautiful day.  The fog was a little dense this morning, and it made the view from Mt Echo quite interesting.

Right now I'm enjoying a nice cut of tea at Bean Haus in Covington, an adorable little place.  MainStrasse is already packed for St Patty's and the bar across the street already has cops at it.

I took a walk across the Roebling Bridge and was not expecting to see much action at the banks.  Boy was I wrong.  I also took a drive up Vine St to Findlay and back down on Race.  Vine St looks fantastic.

That's it for now.  We'll see what happens in the next couple of days.  I think I'm going to head up to Fairfield and get Jungle Jim's out of my system right away.  I'll check back later.

According to Shannon, the jobless rate in Columbus is 26%.

There's no way. That's worse than the great depression!

I though she was crazy too, but in a town as small as Columbus, IN it easy for statistics to fluctuate wildly.  Regardless, I looked it up and it's more like 2.6%.  Shannon and dirty rotten liar.

Anyway, I've been having a blast in Cincinnati.  I spent St Patrick's Day evening at Keystone Bar in Covington with a guy named Dave.  I wandered many neighborhoods and took a trip all the way up Hamilton Ave through College Hill to Fairfield to visit Jungle Jim's.  Boy was that a waste of time.  I wandered Eden Park and Mt Adams where I ran into a couple from Louisville who were equally as blown away by this place as I was.  I met a young black man who told me I was on the wrong street in Walnut Hills.  The guy working at Memorial Hall was friendly and even switched on all the lights so that I could photograph the stage.  Northside is great.  It might be my favorite neighborhood in Cincy.  I got lunch with Atlas and his boyfriend, which was very pleasant.  I got a whirlwind tour from ColDayMan with Atlas and Sherman Cahal in the car.  Then we all got dinner at the Montgomery Inn where Cincinnatus joined us and I had my first rack of ribs.  I wandered Spring Grove Cemetery which is absolutely stunning.  Cincinnati definitely beats Milwaukee when it comes to mansions.  North Avondale, Hyde Park, and East Walnut Hills were all amazing.  Mt Lookout Square is probably my favorite square despite the parking lot in the center.  I can't get enough of Union Terminal.  And I even skipped my trip to Pittsburgh to spend one more day here.

Thank you everyone for helping me experience this city.  It's truly an amazing place.

PS - The pics will be up by Saturday, if not earlier.

Oh, I thought you meant Columbus Ohio lol

Glad you had fun in Cincy. Wish I could have tagged along.

Sweet! It was a pleasure meeting you!

Maybe when you make the move, we can all grab a beer or coffee sometime.

You as well.  You're a riot.  We'll see see how long it take to move.  I might be 30 by the time I get the chance.  I'm crossing my fingers with DAAP.

Thank goodness there were no reported injury's!

That sad part about this ...

Some 700wlw listener has actually said this ... seriously. :-(

I met a young black man who told me I was on the wrong street in Walnut Hills.

I live in Walnut Hills, so I'm curious if you remember which street you were on?  I'm guessing it was said in an intimidating way?  Or was it really that you looked confused, and he was helping you find the right street or something?  I hate hearing my 'hood wasn't welcoming to you!

eh.  I think I should.  I took him out to 2, count them 2 meals.  Plus I housed him.  What did you do Sherman?  Complain all night.....check.

BTW, it was great meeting you AJ.  Hope Cincy treated you well.  And despite Sherman's warm 'welcome'....I hope you enjoyed the city.

Mansions: Avondale, E. Walnut Hills, Indian Hill, Hyde Park, Gas Light (can't really compete with the others, but there are some huge freakin houses here and the architecture is amazing).

No one mentioned Amberly Village! I prefer Amberly Village and a few streets in Pleasant Ridge over Indian Hill. At least Amberly is near civilization (P-Ridge's business district). Gas light Clifton is easily overlooked too for some reason. Indian Hill is boring imo.

I showed him some P. Ridge on street view but ultimately said it wasnt worth it considering the time constraints.

Thank goodness, you took your BF and were not injured like AJ's former victim.

Amberly Village is really nice, but I would pass on Indian Hill unless you are wholly interested in seeing stucco, suburban mansions with no planning or design. Double wides in Kentucky hold up better than those monstrosities. Rookwood has far better architecture, and so does the neighborhoods near Alms.

:( That sucks.

Orchard, Kincaid and Grand Vista are amazing streets.

P-Ridge's business district is so underrated. They have a rare toys store with old collectables, a comic book store, a record store, then you have P-Ridge Chili and Gaslight Cafe. (Btw, I choose Pleasant Ridge Chili over all of those options up there).

Mt Lookout Square is probably my favorite square despite the parking lot in the center.

Mt. Lookout Sq. is probably your favorite Square? Wow. I'd take Hyde Park Sq. over it any day. Yeah, Mt. Lookout has more reasonably priced/practical places but Hyde Park still has Echo and Indigo at least.  I take it you didn't get a chance to see Mariemont?

AJ's former victim?  Dare I ask?  Do I need a restraining order?  He does know where I live now.....

Mt. Lookout is one of my favorites, but only because it is shrouded in a valley and is the least likely location for a square, in my opinion. Not a lot of room for growth, although the redesign should really help it out. I wonder where the parking structure would go if implemented... replace the UDF with a garage with retail on the first floor?

Oakley is my second favorite, although the redesign should aid it a lot.

Mariemont is SO overrated.  IMO anyway.  Yea the buildings that are there look nice and it has a theatre and whatnot, but its a one-sided square.  It just seems so...awkward and incomplete.

Mt. Lookout Square was looking extra good when we went through.  Plus, we only drove through and we came in from the south side of delta, probably the squares sexiest approach.

I was a little surprised by his declaration of Mt. Lookout Sq. being his favorite, especially after all the eye candy we saw at Hyde Park Square.  I mean, damn.

5 points Atlas, -17 Sherman.

Sherman, you are a trip.  Way to shoot down every talking point ColDay had.  It was a pleasure to meet you and I'm happy for you and your penthouse.  I'm sorry half your building's in the ghetto.

Atlas, you and Mike...err...Kevin need to come up to Milwaukee sometime.  I would love to hang out with you guys again.

ColDay, sorry I kept missing you today.  I really enjoyed the whirlwind tour, racism and Milwaukee jabs included.  I'm really glad we stopped at Union Terminal at the end.  It was cool to be in it empty.

Cincinnatus, next time I'm down I want to go out with you to Northside Tavern.  It sounds like it'd be a blast (especially if I got to meet Cincinnatus)

Thank you to everyone who convinced me to stay a third day.  It felt like a complete trip after doing a few things this morning.  I'm still pissed that I never found a stuffed flying pig.  But I got one of those cool new hoodies from Nati Evolvement this morning at Denim.

I'm at a coffee shop in Champaign-Urbana right now.  Next stop Peoria for the night, then Milwaukee tomorrow.  It looks like I'll have time to upload the photos in the morning, but we'll see.

Oh, so true.  That man was chiseled from marble.  But you know, I don't define my squares by the quality of me that stand on the corners.  Maybe I should.....

Oh nice, I guess the drive to Pittsburgh looked less appealing? Plus, it was a sunny and relatively warm day here and it looks like tomorrow will be the same. What a run on good weather lately.

Nah, I don't shoot down everything Chris says. I'm just no UncleRando :D I call it like I see it and I have a LOT of positives for Cincinnati and OTR (we just didn't drive by it). I really like how Main Street is turning out after being "bar'ed out", and Vine is one of my favorite (and frequented) retail corridors. I only wish Findlay Market was open more, and that the vacancies would be filled (one of the vacancies was one of my favorite meat counters). And I really wish that the city would accelerate its redevelopment efforts and finish the restorations of apartments and condos as originally planned.

HAHAHAHA!  Atlas, you are the greatest.  MTS, you have the most twisted mind imaginable.  You should re-apply your foundation.  I think it's crumbling.

There's too much going on in this thread right now.  I'll check back in the morning.  Back to the freeway.
