This announcement just 6 weeks after a 160 job expansion was announced for Middleburg Hts.  Don't you just hate it when cities in the same metro do this kind of thing?

Strongsville making pitch to UPS to land its Middleburg Hts. office

Strongsville wants to lure a United Parcel Service office from Middleburg Heights, leading to more than 380 possible new jobs by the end of 2007.

Strongsville Mayor Thomas Perciak said Monday that he met with UPS officials on Sept. 13 to discuss moving the office to a 12-acre site at the Dow Circle Business Park. He received no promises or commitments, he said.

"We'd welcome them with open arms," Perciak said. "It would improve the quality of life of our residents."

Why don't they make a pitch to companies outof state instead of instate. No wonder our cities isn't growing much in Ohio like the south. The jobs move from one part of town to another and hardly bring in new jobs.

This is just one example how the lack of regional government kills us.  Strongsville is offering all these tax incentives to steal those jobs.  UPS has to put the site in the area.  If we had a collective approach, we wouldn't have to offer any incentives at all.

Don't blame me, I voted for DeMio.  I can't stand Perciak!  His whole campaign was based on reducing traffic in Strongsville, and he's done is encouraged more strip malls and box retail  :whip:

UPS-Supply Chains Solutions announced last month they were looking to increase operations in Middleburg Heights, but now they may be considering a move to Strongsville.

When UPS applied to the state through the Ohio Job Creation Tax Credit Program for financial assistance in expanding by 160 jobs, it listed Middleburg Heights as a prime location and Strongsville as an alternate.

Middleburg Hts. wins fight to keep UPS unit

Thursday, September 07, 2006

Middleburg Heights - A United Parcel Service subsidiary will remain in the city and add about 160 jobs, Mayor Gary Starr announced Wednesday.

Starr won a tug-of-war with Strongsville, which had offered a $1.27 million tax abatement over 10 years to lure UPS Supply Chain Solutions across the city line. Starr responded by offering $145,000 in payroll tax credits, saying property tax relief would have hurt Berea schools. Starr had been sharply critical of Strongsville Mayor Tom Perciak during the two-year battle over UPS.

"I believe he made a mistake in his offer of a huge amount of tax abatement that would have hurt both the Berea school district and Strongsville schools," Starr said.
