If there is a serious concern about running out of farmland or forested land, we should be restricting sprawl/suburbia and enacting urban growth boundaries. McMansion development consumes far, far, far more undeveloped land than renewable energy does.

Buy stuff in stores rather than everything on the internet so there aren't so many gigantic warehouses going up.

They'll still need warehouses to store the stock for the stores and then more large trucks to get the stuff to the stores.

Running out of farmland is such a crazy thing to say to. Do people not realize the majority of the United States is uninhabited? We have PLENTY of land to use for agriculture it's not even funny.

Krazy Glue manufacturer Toagosei America Inc. plans new facility in West Jefferson

"A manufacturer best known for its Krazy Glue brand is planning a new location in West Jefferson.

Toagosei America Inc. wants to establish an acrylic polymer manufacturing facility for battery markets, according to a scope of work document from the state of Ohio. The Ohio Tax Credit Authority recently approved a seven-year, 1.3% Job Creation Tax Credit for the project. The credit has an estimated value of $245,000.

The company expects to create 50 full-time jobs, generating $3 million in new annual payroll by the end of 2028. Toagosei would also retain 47 employees who work at the manufacturer's existing facility at 1450 W. Main St. in West Jefferson. Those positions generate $2.5 million in payroll."

Savion, in conjunction with Ohio State University, to test a variety of crops at newly opened Madison Fields Solar Farm

"A new solar farm in Madison County is tackling the longstanding complaint that the growing number of utility-sized solar projects in Ohio are taking critical farmland out of production.

Renewable energy company Savion has opened Madison Fields Solar Farm, a 180-megawatt project capable of generating enough power to run 38,000 homes. The farm will also test on whether it is possible to grow crops between and around the rows of 400,000 solar panels on about 1,000 acres of land in Pike Township.

Construction of Madison Fields began in December 2022 and finished last December.

The introduction of agrivoltaics at Madison Fields comes during a building boom for solar farms in Ohio.

There are about 60 farms in some stage of development in the state, according to state regulators. Projects approved several years ago, like Madison Fields, are coming online."

Mixed-use development proposed along I-70 in West Jefferson

A new mixed-use development with a hotel and restaurant space could be coming to undeveloped farmland along I-70.

West Jefferson Village Council will consider in May preliminary plans for a "high-quality" mixed-use development on about 18 acres at 5160 Route 29, according to an email from the city. The site offers approximately 14 developable acres.

...

The developer's plans for the site include a hotel with 110 rooms and 6,000 square feet of fast-food restaurant space, as well as a 16-pump gas station with a convenience store, according to a traffic impact study from February that was included in a public records request. The restaurant space would be split between two users, each getting 3,000 square feet.

Yeah same thought, that developer has some decent looking projects, so it’s sad they aren’t doing more with this. Doesn’t mixed use usually include housing and office?

Not necessarily, this technically is mixed use considering the hotel, gas station and two food options.

This is also desperately needed in that area as workers don’t have any options besides the next exit west and Hilliard Rome.

Not the type of development we’d like to see at Grandview Ave & 33, but not a terrible project for the area it’s in.
