CLEVELAND -- Charles Barkley is at it again.

The controversial TNT announcer made some disparaging remarks about the city of Cleveland before the network televised Thursday night's game between the Cavaliers and Portland Trail Blazers.

Bantering in TNT's studios in Atlanta with co-hosts Ernie Johnson and Chris Webber, Barkley, who also thinks the Cavs need to speed up their offense, took off on Cleveland and Milwaukee.

Barkley: If you were to swap the people in Cleveland and Milwaukee, it'd be the same dreary ass city. They are both dreary places. C Webb, would you agree? Cleveland and Milwaukee, other than Perkins Soul Food joint, they are the same dreary ass city.

Kids, Uncle MTS took care of this.

This means war, Barkley.

You would.  Would you like me to tell you his thought on cinci's basketball team and city? Oh wait.....

Hillbillies from the Kentucky foothills and Hicks from Alabama often have a very similar sense of humor ;)

Who do you recommend that we email to make an effective complaint?

You're gonna have to send out a lot of emails. Negative statements about Cleveland are in the media all the time.

Well my family is full of rednecks so maybe that's where I get my sense of humor.

ummm  you mean you kids don't know how to use google to look up information?

I thought he was in jail right now? Some tent city or something?

MTS remind me to never piss you off. You're either full of crap or a pretty dangerous fella.

David's family reunion!

Is it better to have negative coverage (Cleveland) or no coverage at all (Cincy)?..... hmmmmm, tough one.

NOTE: To all Cincinnatians not named "David" - I have respect for my fellow Ohio big city... I am just playing along with this kid who is trying his best to pick a fight.  Sadly, the wife and kid both fell asleep already and I have nothing better to do.

I would like to know what he thinks about UC's basketball team (I assume he wasn't talking bad about XU). Randy might get fired up.

Seriously.  Chuck is good people, funny as hell, but that mouth!  tsk..tsk..tsk

I wasn't picking a fight! Jeez, lighten up. When Forbes came out with their best cities for singles list and quoted people bashing Cincinnati : "A riot is a great place to meet people", "Spring Grove Cemetary is the top hangout spot" I also thought it was hilarious. Cincinnati got a lot of negative press in the early 2000s but now it's rebounding.

As for Cincinnati's sports teams, I don't think sports make or break a city. It's more of a vanity thing. Columbus is a great city and gets a decent amount of positive press but all they have going for them in terms of sports is Ohio State.

I think they have a combined gpa of 1.4

Hts44121, don't let David get to you ... There's no reason to get the Inferior Complexity slurs rolling ... This isn't about Cincy, only Cleve and Mil.

Actually, I'm surprised. Sports announcers never put down cities. It's just unprofessional and degrades their image. I don't even live in Cleveland and after reading this - I've lost a bit of respect for the guy.

Actually, it is about Barkley and the deep-seeded hate he has for the people here.  Lots of issues going back to when he used to play for the Sixers and drink it up in the Flats.  It resurfaced in the last few years as there was nobody more hateful of the media hype Lebron got coming into the league than Barkley.  If their record wasn't so good, he would just simply bash the Cavs and call them "turrible" for the entire broadcast like he has done in years past.  I am sure that TNT got lots of complaints from Clevelanders about Barkley prior to these comments.

celebs bashing cities is nothing new to the Cincys and Cleves of the world. Maybe if Barkley could have been a bit more wittier his comments may have been funny.

If you actually do a search for Charles Barkley is an idiot it gets nearly 100,000 hits.... and a lot more with other variation of words....

Charles Barkley: An American IdiotBy JAY MARIOTTI, AOL

He stood in the corner of a Scottsdale bar, our Round Mound of Clown, grinning as a procession of female admirers angled to meet him. When each of these strangers moved forward, Charles Barkley leaned over and responded with either a swarming hug or a full-blown makeout kiss. Particularly odd about his impromptu game of Spin The Bottle was the timing: It was dead-smack in the middle of the NBA Finals, his only legitimate chance at a championship as a basketball legend.

Jay Mariotti is a national columnist and commentator for AOL Sports.

So when Barkley and the Phoenix Suns withered in Game 6, missed critical shots in the final minutes and lost to Michael Jordan's Bulls, I was left to ponder the effects of the Chuckster's public partying those two weeks. What if he had been getting his rest instead of his jollies? Might he have nailed the game-winning shot, a hero's role left for journeyman shooter John Paxson? Might the Suns have gone on to win the title at home in Game 7? Would Charles not go to his grave with a Grand Canyon-sized crater on his Hall of Fame/Dream Team resume?

I'd like to say Barkley simply was an immature guy who eventually grew up. But 15 1/2 years later, only a few blocks from the same tavern location, he was busted last week on drunk driving charges after a night of partying at the Dirty Pretty Rock Bar, where his companions included Jaleel White, better known as Steve Urkel of TV geek infamy. When questioned why he ran a stop sign in his black Infinity SUV, Barkley said he was in a rush to have oral sex with his female passenger, according to the police report. He also told a civilian employee that he would "tattoo my name on your ass'' if it helped him avoid a DUI arrest, the report said. Almost 46, Barkley is less mature now than when White was still Urkel. He is stuck in permanent adolescence and has become a perpetual circus onto himself, which wouldn't be a societal concern if:

1. He wasn't one of America's more influential voices.

2. He wasn't running for governor of Alabama in 2014.

3. He wasn't, quite possibly, the most visible ambassador of his sport.

I bet if Cleveland had casinos, Barkley would LOVE the place. He's admitted to gambling away over $10 million since he became rich.

Oh, I'm very familiar with the thread so far ... my question still stands. This was about Charles Barkley ripping Cleveland during a sports broadcast???

.

I was making the point of cities with 'bash here' targets on their back not being exempt from the celeb shooting off at the mouth, ie Barkley and Cleveland or Stewart and Nati...thats all....understand?

He's just bitter because I thought it was funny and he knows I'm partially from Cinci/went to UC. It has nothing to do with Cincinnati and if someone made fun of Cincinnati I could care less and no one else should either. There's good and bad in every city. It's not as if the city is going to decline because Charles Barkey thinks its a dreary place. People take this stuff way too seriously on this forum imo. Take for instance what that marketing exec. said about Cleveland tourists in NYC or the Fiji fiasco. If Clevelanders weren't so offended by these statements, it all would have gotten less press.

An ongoing list of Barkley quotes and comments, only have 3 for now.

1. Such as Charles Barkley's famous crack when somebody asked for a comment on the former home of the Clippers: ``This place? Nothing positive. OK, I want to say something positive. It's positively a dump.''

2. I love New York City; I've got a gun

3. Charles: (about Tonya Harding) I heard Tonya Harding is calling herself the Charles Barkley of figure skating. I was going to sue her for defamation of character, but then I realized I have no character.

The bold is my point. This had nothing to do with Cincinnati, but it seems especially as of late ... that there's this "point" that needs to be made. Don't let it get to you folks, just let it roll off your back ... there's no need to try to bring someone else down with you- because no one is really being brought down. It's Charles Barkley for God's sake! lol

Someone brought cinci into this saying both cities get dissed.  Then drunk ass, self admitted redneck, David started rambling.  Just let the Cinci discussion go as it's irrelevant to the topic.

He's like the black Rodney Dangerfield if you think about it.

Charles obviously has an axe to grind. Honestly, Charles does not like Lebron, and this is his way of trying to insult Lebron. Who cares what the "round mound of rebound" has to say. I'm so tired of the Cleveland hate. It's so eighties if you ask me. I just ignore stupid comments from stupid people like Charles. Also, Charles Barkley is from Alabama...Lol

Bingo and you all know I feel about the South!

Honestly Im liking all the comments on the TNT site regarding Cleveland and Barkley. I wish those same people would post on Cleveland.com. Only seen one negative comment on C-town and like 60 positive ones :).

lolololol.

Well, it's been a long time since I've read then comments on cleveland.com, and it will be a long time before I read them again.  After reading the comments after the Charles Barkley story, it reaffirms my theory Clevelanders are wholly responsible for the treatment of our city. The disdain some Clevelanders have about their own city is unreal. It's as if the city did something to them. Here is a example: "Like all educated people, I moved away from that dreary city...the women are ugly and it sucks" What happened to our civic pride? I don't expect Clevelanders to never leave the region, but at least I thought people had pride in where they're from. Most of the comments are totally baseless and ignorant. I have never seen so much hate for ones hometown. I just ran into a girl from Montana. She wouldn't stop talking about her hometown. I literally had to walk away from her. In my travels, I have never experienced that from a Clevelander. So, if we don't talk up our city, we should not expect others to do it for us. Honestly, we are seeing the work of the thousands of Cleveanders who made it their job to dump on the city.

No we're seeing the NON work of a PR startegy from the Greater Cleveland Partnership, the City, the County and equally responsible the Plain Dealer.
