It's called NEW BLOOD.  The GCP, and the Plain Dealer, are old, white, non diverse in their thinking/reporting, and refuse to step outside the box to actively recruit and obtain diverse talent (gay, black, asian, women, latino, teenagers).

However, I've said all this in the marketing thread.  It grinds my gears!

We need a fiery leader who jumps all over this crap when it happens.  I'd like for TNT to let Frank Jackson on the pregame show just to roast Barkley.  But can you see Jackson doing that?  No.  Maybe PLJ.

"I just ran into a girl from Montana. She wouldn't stop talking about her hometown. I literally had to walk away from her. In my travels, I have never experienced that from a Clevelander. So, if we don't talk up our city, we should not expect others to do it for us."

To a point, I agree but the day I encounter a Clevelander who comes across like a boosterish pageant queen is the day I use one of those "Good for One B!tchslap" tickets that MTS is so fond of. Maybe some people prefer an approach that Clevelanders "have something to prove", but I don't.

That wouldn't happen and no Mayor would waste time acknowledging that.  Advertiser and CONSUMER (Viewer) complaints are what is needed to change that type of "editorial"/"personal" commentary!

Any coincidence that Chuck Barkley was involved in altercations while out drinking in both Cleveland and Milwaukee?  One he got sued for and the other he faced criminal charges for throwing a guy out a window.

I'm in the opposite camp.  Rehabbed reputations don't just fall into your lap.  Over 10,000 years of human civilization, it has been demonstrated that reputation matters.  It's the backdrop against which all decisions are made.  Specific factors like "health care leader" or "culinary hotspot" can only add to this backgroud.  They cannot supplant it by themselves.  I'd like to see every "Cleveland sucks" to be met with an immediate "no, Phoenix sucks" or a "do you realize how many people you just insulted" or just some wordless cartoon violence.
