Lesser known than its west side cousin, Eastgate (map) is a cute little residential enclave. Like Westgate, there is no urban commercial street, but it's not because it has been sprawled on: it never existed. It is even home to one of the city's few bike lanes and it was the first I ever rode (there is one on Morse, but you'd have to bike across a highway interchange and be OK with cars next to you going 50MPH or more). The lane next to your left was pretty narrow, so a hummer would be taking up some of the bike lane. You also don't want to take a left turn from here. All in all, didn't seem necessary since it's a residential street. Back to the neighborhood, it has a large, black middle-class population and the most ornate homes line Nelson.

very nice job. cute bungalows and the sunny day is just icing on the cake. also, i love franklin park nearby, kind of a nearby amenity to that area.

* request? i know you are doing neighborhoods, but i am most looking forward to east main & west broad tours, even if piecemeal by neighborhood.*

Thanks! I forgot to mention some African guy was asking me why I was taking pictures, he thought I was with the city and that his tree might have to get cut down.

*I'll be sure to include large chunks. I covered E Main in Eastmoor and Bexley threads, but between downtown and Bexley I still have to cover it. I've gotten some pics for W Broad in Franklinton, no Hilltop yet. I'll try get some more up soon.*

Cool neighborhood. I've actually never been there. Bike lanes are a plus. They actually have bike lanes on Georgesville Rd. or one of the roads around it; I can't remember but it was really surprising!

Here's the Hilltop. The main thoroughfare is West Broad. There's a few pics of W. Broad.

right. i was thinking of hilltop and those groovy old school neon lighted motor court motels on east main -- you know what i mean ;) while i'm at it maybe a somali neighborhoods thread would be cool too.

Looks homey. Very comfortable
