Posted March 24, 200916 yr Just six miles west of downtown on one side of the river and a few minutes north of CVG on the other side is the Anderson Ferry. Providing a unique, historical alternative to the interstates, the Anderson Ferry takes passengers across the Ohio river. I had the opportunity to spend a few shifts with the crew of the ferry for a recent photo essay I did for school: These are just a small sampling of the photographs I took for the essay. To read the full article about the ferry's history and current operation check out the latest update at www.queencitydisco.com. There's also a slideshow which features audio interviews with the crew! Thanks for viewing!
March 24, 200916 yr Nice photos. Brings back some memories. I grew up on Anderson Ferry Rd in Delhi and rode the ferry pretty often as a kid. It was the quickest way for us west siders to get to the airport.
March 24, 200916 yr ^Ditto on getting to the airport via the ferry! I was obsessed with this as a kid.
March 24, 200916 yr Excellent photos. There's another Ohio River ferry between Ohio 800 and Sistersville, WV, that I've used several times. It's in a more rural area, and not nearly as heavily used as the Anderson Ferry.
March 24, 200916 yr Neat! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
March 24, 200916 yr Ever since I heard about this, I thought it was way cool. Thanks for photgraphing it!
March 25, 200916 yr Excellent photos. There's another Ohio River ferry between Ohio 800 and Sistersville, WV, that I've used several times. It's in a more rural area, and not nearly as heavily used as the Anderson Ferry. The Fly Ferry at Fly, OH
March 25, 200916 yr Excellent photos. There's another Ohio River ferry between Ohio 800 and Sistersville, WV, that I've used several times. It's in a more rural area, and not nearly as heavily used as the Anderson Ferry. The Fly Ferry at Fly, OH That be the one! I always heard it referred to as the Sistersville Ferry, though. I thought it was owned by the city of Sistersville. I haven't ridden it since about 1999, and I heard that they had taken bids for a new one.
March 26, 200916 yr Thanks for checking these out everyone! Make sure if you're ever in the area that you take the ferry, it really is pretty cool. There is a closed up ice cream stand on the Ohio side, I'm not sure if it's closed for the season or closed for good, but I'd love to open that up and put a big sign right next to Anderson Ferry Rd. and attract people coming off of the ferry. Enjoy the breeze on the river, then go enjoy some cheap ice cream.
April 1, 200916 yr Fantastic shots - that should be a special section of the Sunday Enquirer...very nicely done! Thanks for posting... Cinncinnatus - agreed on Augusta - that's a fun ferry too!
April 1, 200916 yr .. next time we go to Augusta .. Yes. I took the ferry a couple years ago from scenic Augusta across to Higginsport, Ohio, in Brown County. Very nice.
April 2, 200916 yr Thanks for checking these out everyone. I'll have to look into those ferry's in Augusta and Fly.
April 6, 200916 yr I was on the Fly ferry as a kid. BTW, how much is the fare on the Anderson Ferry? "Tolls as of Jan. 2008 are $4.00 per car (one-way); $2.00 Motorcycle, $1 per bike; .50 cents per pedestrian. There are no longer any bulk or monthly pass options for crossings. There is now a optional over and back pass for $7.00"
