Ok, on the lighter side----

I am a fan of "Diners Drive Inns and Drives"# http://www.foodnetwork.com/diners-drive-ins-and-dives/index.html on FoodTV; but it seems to me that Ohio is underepresentad as a whole (and nothing from Cincy)

Anyone who watches the show knows what kinda stuff makes it on there. Home made, good value, unique.  Lets rattle off some places around the State -- maybe we can email the show in order to get them featured.

I would say Zips in Mt Lookout, in Ciny...but after watching DDD, I think they might not cut it..The burgers are darn good, but on a national stage, maybe not so much.

I watch that show and recently a 1950s diner thread was started in the restaurant & entertainment forum.

I seen that --- but they go to anyplace with great food, not just 50's style diners

Hot Dog Shoppe in Warren/Girard Ohio

Arthur's in Hyde Park

I don't know if they're DDD worthy, but I always try to stop at Kremeland in Navarre at least once a summer.

I couldn't find them on the online menu, but they had many flavors of milkshakes.

I liked the old building better--it was a real 50's/60's style drive-in.  But, the new building has indoor dining, so they can stay open all year.

Swenson's in Akron and Melt in Lakewood are two that I've written the show about.

How about the Town Fyer on Superior. I've never set foot in the place, but I love the sign "It's a southern thang!"

Sheesh.  I forgot about my diner.

Michaels, AKA - The Shack on the Tracks, right here on Shaker Square.

To bad Ms. Angie is gone.

This place, in SF, made my mouth water...all the meats are cooked there...you order at the counter and they make a sandwich made from lots of the in house roasted meats

Now, some place like that in OH?

I always liked Dee Felice in Covington, but that might be too fancy

Town Fryer closed last year.

I recommend Porky's, the drive-in I recommended in the 50s thread, which is in Mansfield.

I think I've been here.  IIRC, it near Union Square and has a weird mural on the building.

And where are people to get their fried oyster sandwiches now?

Or fried twinkies?  I think you can get those at certain county fairs though.

The owner opened the Backstage Cafe on Euclid in the building with the Agora (just west of E. 55th).  The menu includes many of her famous fried foods.

I have to give kudos to Swensons. I used to work near their Stow location but had never been there, when a co-worker/galpal said "ohhh, we HAVE to do lunch there!!!". I'm thinking okay, so she's a fan of the food - silly me. Lo and behold, it's a drive-in employing (at least when we were there) many an athletic and handsome shorts-wearing collegiate from nearby Kent State. Seeing their prowess as they bounded across the parking lot like gazelle was one thing, however, when they lean into your car window and follow up your sandwich order with the question "would you like butter on your buns"?!? As MTS would say "oh lawd have mercy!!!"

I'd like to know what your answer was?  >:D

it  reopened last year didn't it?  did it close again?

wouldn't a chili parlor place in Cinci qualify for DDD?  This is kind of unique to the rest of the country.

As far as Cleveland maybe something with pierogies  or something? Melt is a good idea.

But, who's going to think about the food?
