My Pittsburgh photos over the past year.  Some have blooming trees.  They were about exactly one year ago.  I just finally created a pbase account, and I am organizing all my towns and cities.  I picked some Pittsburgh ones, and made a thread.  I plan on attacking much more of Pittsburgh this year.

Why the awnings!? Just...why!?!? lol

Pittsburgh is a cool looking city though.

I definitely love Pittsburgh.

Very nice! Welcome to the forum.

I always loved Shadyside.

Lovely views.

They were the modern thing in the sixties, when the people who lived in those houses had decent jobs in the steel mills. There's a function to some kind of cover over the stoop, too, when you don't have a porch. If you were standing on the top step fishing for your house keys while trying to balance a paper bag full of groceries in a hard rain, you'd really appreciate the shelter.

Very nice shots.  Pittsburgh's a fascinating old city with neat old walkable neighborhoods and so many faces... Squirrel Hill reminds me of Cleveland Heights.

Look at any of the historic pictures of large American cities- lots of awnings.  They kept the high sun out of the windows in summer, thus keeping the inside of the house much cooler than it would be otherwise.  The reason we don't have awnings on most of our buildings anymore is that we have air conditioning.

They look so out of joint.

Thanks for the info Rob; X.
