Posted March 27, 200916 yr Officially the “Strategic Reuse Project”. No money. Just ideas. Part of the “Greater Downtown Plan”. Rumor is that some of the infrastructure aspects might actually happen. My favorite is the transportation center redo (this is that monster parking garage between downtown and the Oregon District), which incorporates a loop for the proposed streetcar down to the UD area, and a 3-C station. Transporation Center Some others. Follow the link to pix and additional graphics. Merchants Row (and pedestrian mid block walk to the river) Walker Building Price Stores (not my favorite, but neat Leon Krier-esque walking radius diagram on the rendering) Gagel Building Lindsey Building The south side of the building as a giant pv solar array. Woah! David Building I like this so much it gets two images old Third National Bank Building (this is a huge building, so multiple floor plans at the link) Leigh Building The Fremont Street Experience? Animated facade light show... Bernie’s Music …as a bike rental place/coffee shop with lofts. You could probably skip the bike stuff and do all the upper floors as lofts.
March 27, 200916 yr Alright, I am going to say that I truly LOVE this proposal. With 3-C in the mix, along with a hockey arena, I can really see this happening. Dayton probably has the most potential of any Ohio cities to become something really cool, due to our immense, unused resources and history, but obviously the main questions: 1. Where's the money? 2. How long until construction starts? 3. Will construction ever start, or is this just another "plan"? (still, glad you found out about this Jeffery. This stuff is great!)
March 27, 200916 yr Yeah, I saw that on the news last night (Channel 7). I really like some of those, esp. the Third Bank one. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
March 28, 200916 yr ^ The scale of that reminds me of those massive Toledo conversions. Third Bank is a big building. @@@@ 3. Will construction ever start, or is this just another "plan"? It's just another plan. The idea was to 1) show how buildings can be adaptively re-used. 2) show how "green" concepts can be incorportated into re-use. 3) generate publicity for downtown. It's part of that "Greater Downton Plan".
March 30, 200916 yr ^Cool. At least this is a decent plan. Also think it's interesting how the focus of downtown redevelopment has changed from the eastern edge of downtown/Webster station to the southern/Terra Cotta-ish area. BPV to blame?
March 30, 200916 yr Not Terra Cotta. The idea here, I think, is to link up with the Oregon District and focus on downtown east of Main, along the St Clair and Jefferson corridor up to Riverscape. There was only 3 projects west of Main, one in the banker/lawyer cooridor along 2nd and one was on the "Shuster block" . The 3rd was the Lindsay building. So one can see a definite pattern to the choices since they seem to cluster in a certain part of downtown.
