Need help: Moving within Cleveland (Downtown, OC, Tremont)

Hi,

I came here for help when I moved here and the results were fantastic.  I currently live in Stonebridge and I love living here.  However, my roommates best friend is recently single and therefore he wants to live with him also.  This means that Stonebridge is out of the question because there are no 3 bedroom places.  I prefer not to live alone and therefore I will be looking for a new place with them and from my 8 months of being here I am most interested in downtown, Ohio City, and Tremont.  I have a few questions that hopefully someone can answer:

1.  Are there any 3 bedroom apts available downtown?

2.  Are there any areas in Ohio City or Tremont we should avoid?

3.  Where's the best place to search for rentals online?  I have only tried Craigslist and no other website seems to be as good.

Lastly, we would also consider Lakewood but I think we prefer to be closer to downtown.  Any help is much appreciated!  Oh and if it matters we are all in our mid-20's/male.

Speaking for Tremont, if you have cars - you'll likely want to find a place that offers off-street parking or ideally a garage. I usually recommend that you try to stay east of I-90/I-71 - there are decent spots on the western portion but the eastern portion of Tremont is less spotty.

Great site for information on apartments.  Just from a quick search I found that the Bingham, Bridgeview, Crittenden, Huron Square, Reserve Square, and Statler Arms all have 3 bedroom units downtown.  There are also a couple places in Tremont listed.  Give that a shot.

I know the osborn (E.9th & Huron/Prospect) has 3 bedroom units.  I don't know if any are available... but I would check them out.  The 3-bedrooms are my favorite units in the building and are ridiculously large and reasonably priced.

Tremont can be tricky, at times.  The area that, imo, is the safest, is the the area between Univ-Literary (North/South) and W.7 and W.5 (East/West).  But you're not going to find any 3BR apts there.

Have you looked at Tremont Place Lofts?  They might have 3BRs

Wally Szerbiak and his entire family live in the bingham during his season.  If he can fit five, im sure there is a place you can fit 3

I believe the Windsor Block at the SW corner of Euclid and E4th have 3 bedroom units.

For a 3-BR in Ohio City or Tremont, you might as well rent a house, especially one with off-street/garaged parking.  I suggest not only looking at craigslist, but driving around and calling numbers for houses that are for rent AND the houses that are for sale.  Chances are that the owners would be willing to write up a lease instead of letting their house remain vacant.

I don't know if this counts for the 3BR units, as I have not seen one but the other units all had VERY small bedrooms.  I know you're not going to get huge bedrooms in most downtown buildings but these seemed almost too small.  I've also soured on that general area.  It's too gloomy and desolate during the evenings when there aren't Cavs or Indians home games.

Three bedrooms in the warehouse district are mostly going to be expensive but Crittenden should be the cheapest.  It's a decent building, it's just not the loft style like all the other Warehouse District apartments.  It's much more "apartment like" if that makes sense.  You don't get the exposed brick, ductwork, updated kitchens etc. but you also get a lot more natural light, more room, and cheaper rent.

1 of the BR's is smaller, but has it's own bath and a huge walk in closet.  1 bedroom is enormous, the 3rd bedroom is decent sized with the largest closet I've ever seen in a downtown apartment.  I've been in a couple units that have very tight bedrooms. most have decent sized, a couple units have enormous bedrooms.  There are 9 different units in the building (not counting the penthouse floors) and all are quite different.  The living space in the 3 BR's is ridiculous.

I actually quite enjoy the relative seclusion of this area.  East 4th's resurgence has changed things dramatically.  And with 668 coming online I think we're finally starting to bridge some gaps over here.  When I want to go out it's 5 blocks or I take the trolley to the WHD.    If I dont' want to go out, I don't have to hear everyone else "going out" all night long.  And with 81 Indians Games, 41 cavs games + playoffs, and all the concerts, I've found that more often than you think there is something going on over there.  Plus IMHO the patio bars at 9th and huron are hands down the best spot for happy hour in the summer.

Just my opinion.
