The following was part of a wrap-up in today's PD on the Convention and Visitors Bureau changing direction:

..."In the meantime, another initiative is under way to make the Cleveland bureau more accessible and people-friendly. The bureau's 30-plus employees plan to move from their offices high in Terminal Tower to a storefront space on Public Square.

To save on costs, the bureau will share the space - part of the old Higbee's department store at Ontario Street - with the Greater Cleveland Partnerships.

C-Tix, the bureau's half-price ticket outlet, will also move from Playhouse Square to the new office..."

I think it'll be great to see storefront activity like this on Public Square and it makes sense for all three of these to be here, but what will become of the C-Tix location on Playhouse Square?  I can see that becoming a coffee kiosk or some other information booth or a combination of the two.  Perhaps something that several entities can share and use to enliven and program the square...such as the Civic Innovation Lab and Idea Center, which are both less than one block away.  I don't know if the C-Tix booth was getting much action there, but it'd be a shame to see a vacant spot in such a high-profile location filled (Higbees storefront), just to open up another (Playhouse Square).

I wonder if they are taking over the bank location on the square.  Can anyone confirm?

I kept knocking my head :bang: trying to figure out where in the Higbee bldg theses two businesses would go without major construction/renovation and remembered there was a bank on the ground floor public square side of the building.

Is this where they will be located?  its the only "store front"/"street level" space I can think of.

  • 1 year later...

They're really going to town on this space... I hope they're preserving a lot of the historic details...

I also hope they try to do some holiday display windows like the Higbee Building windows used to have.  Maybe not this year, but next?  They could have a lot of fun with that!  Make it a performance art piece!
