Nice city, but why is there a statue of some guy screwin a turtle??  Apparently it got him some Mardi Gras beads, but the turtle has the same expression as MTS's favorite Yikes photo.

There isn't much to do in Woostah, eh?

 

But how about those houses climbing up hills?  One doesn't associate that with urban New England (which I think of as pretty flat).

 

I used to think of Worscester as sort of a Springfield or Hamilton kind of place.  It looks a hell of a lot more built-up than that...like that train station, which would have been demolished in Ohio.  And that neat postmodern library building. 

 

 

 

 

...and I hope that Coney Island sign actually is lit at night.  That would be a hoot!

That's "Woosta" as in Woosta Pizza. With Boston just 40 miles away it is most unfortunately overlooked. Kinda like Milwaukee and Chicago.

Probably, and in Cincinnati too.  I think there is a similar figure on the Tyler Davidson Fountain in Fountain Square.  But you could probably have guessed that about Cincy without the aid of the statue.

 

Thanks for the photos, Clevelumbus.  These and the couple of brief moments I have spent in Worcester make it seem like a place worth exploring a bit more.  Need to manufacture an excuse to go out there...

It's funny how they'll say "wooster" but when it comes to Dorchester its just straight up Dorchester or just a drop of the R.

 

Then there's the Ohio pronunciation: Wooster.
