Not to defend any of the insane things that Hudson's mayor has said, but I just found out that his wife died of leukemia back in September. Since then, he has had the crazy rant about the child pornography in schools in October and now the ice shanty prostitution comment. I don't live in Hudson and haven't paid attention to him except for these comments, but it sounds like he might have suffered a mental break since losing her.

Question is up to his constituents as to whether he should remain in office, but knowing more of the context I kind of feel bad for the guy now. Hopefully someone close to him gets him the therapy he needs.

It is now quite obvious that the mayor is dealing with with tremendous issues.  The loss of someone so close (and probably after an agonizing battle as well) can very well cause significant mental issues.  It makes sense that the timing of the start of these statements can be traced to an event.  Be it from something physical (dementia, stroke, injury, infection) or monumental emotional stress, he needs someone to intervene.  It is sad for him and for the community.  Since somebody else decided to drag in other unrelated things, it doesn't matter the race, gender, political affiliation/leanings or where they live.  If a person needs assistance, then somebody hopefully close to him can help to provide it.

I thought you were done speculating? If you are not his P.O.R, or a medical professional, your assumption of the situation is just as valid as mine.

Go and read the post above mine.  It is compassion for somebody who is apparently suffering.  Here is something else that I am speculating: compassion is something you don't understand or are incapable of.  Either way, I don't care.

Hudson Councilwoman Nicole Kowalski said she found the mayor’s statement outrageous.

“I was surprised, but then he has made these type of statements before so I wasn’t completely surprised,” Kowalski said. She said she did not agree with the mayor’s statement.

BTW I hope all the sympathizers bring this same energy and compassion when discussing stupid things the city youth do and say.

A lot of kids grow up in traumatized situations but I don't hear you making excuses for them.

Fairmount Temple certainly had its issues with head rabbis being cheating horndogs - (Gertman and Gelfan come to mind), but man, this is a whole level of depravity. Excommunicate this bastard.

I saw a couple motorcycles fly past me on 480 on Saturday afternoon. They must have been doing about 100 mph. This has become a common occurrence.

Had one pass me about that fast on 90 heading towards downtown this morning.

I am a pilot.    It's my best guess, but could be a host of other reasons (weight/fuel minimums, a CMH based maintenance facility, charter clients for a deadhead leg, etc).

A place like East Cleveland, with lots of violent crime, is going to attract officers who are on the job for the wrong reasons.  And for various reasons will be stuck hiring them.

We really need to get the Cleveland crime thread back up and running, especially after separate shootings last night that left one person dead.

Wait, I'm sorry.

They took the hoops down in the basketball courts because someone thought they heard a single gunshot? What?

I believe it was reported that there have been other incidents at the basketball courts recently.

Is Put-In-Bay considered a suburb because the riots on Saturday sounded just horrific. I guess cancelling Christmas in July hadn't fixed the problem.

Not the same fun place I remember as a kid.

Replying here since the thread isn't open. It's frankly nauseating seeing this happening. Like I've said in the past. I lived downtown 2018 - 2020. I walked from the Flats to E9th almost every weekend past midnight. Never do I remember crime this bad ever. I remember hearing about gun violence here there, usually on the outskirts east of East 12 and St. Clair. But in the middle of downtown, especially right outside thirsty Parrot? E9th and Prospect? Not within 1 week of each other, let alone in less than 6 hours! In just 2 weeks we've had shootings in the Warehouse district, The Flats, E9th and Public Square. Not to mention the increased carjackings and break ins That is horrific.

Bibb better do something fast, because all this work over the last 15 years will be squandered quickly if people don't feel safe visiting, let alone even living down there. I know someone who was on the fence of renewing her lease downtown, her co-worker being carjacked with a gun at Gateway by teenagers made her decide to move out of the city all together.

I know so many people who have moved downtown recently and love it

The original post was a request to open the Cleveland Crime Thread, not to specifically comment on those events. Let's not shut this thread down too and stay on the topic of crime in Cleveland suburbs...

To keep this on topic in terms of suburbs, then I'll say atleast Bay Village, and the rest of suburban Cuyahoga County, actually give a damn about responding to the perps causing violent crime. You know the Bay Police department are going to be on this like white on rice.

As Barney Fife would say, you've got to nip it in the bud.

Blame the perps, not the city for getting rid of the hoops. Willowick did the same thing since there were constant fights at one of their parks. People need to handle themselves better.

Did they find a shell casing? The article says the caller didn't see a gun and car alarms went off bc it was so loud. Sounds more like an m80 type firecracker to me. I grew up in Bay, don't underestimate the city's ability to overreact.

I can't blame a suburb for wanting to avoid the generational chaos that has raped so many cities and inner ring suburbs. Even if it is an overreaction.
