I grew up in Maple Hts. in the early '60s.  It was kind of an idyllic place then-huge trees, manicured lawns, etc.

Last time I drove down my old street it scared me how things changed.

You post gave me a sad little chuckle.  I also grew up in Maple Hts. in the 60s.  Your comment reminds me how all the adult homeowners of that period would say the same exact thing about their former neighborhoods in Cleveland. Ironic?

Damn, we got a whole bunch of erstwhile Mustangs here.

I've noted that irony myself.   My old street (Corkhill) doesn''t look all that much different on the surface, nor does the rest of "Maple Hills" (south of Turney).

But neither did that Brunswick-Reddington section the last time I was over there.

The east side is a different matter at times.

I wish I could find it, but there was a political cartoon from about five years ago showing several frames of a generic city map. The first frame showed white people living in the city surrounded by countryside. The next frame had white people moving out of the city to the inner-ring suburbs with minorities living in the city. The next frame had white people living in the outer suburbs, minorities in the inner-ring suburbs, and a void in the inner city. The last frame had white people living in the inner city, black people in the outer suburbs and a void in the inner ring suburbs between them. And that frame was subtitled "Mission Accomplished."

It's older than that.  I remember seeing it in a textbook when I was a college student in the 90's.  Someone was pretty prescient- or maybe just from NYC or SF.

I suppose I should ask why, on those rare occasions when Painesville makes it into the national news, it's always for something like this. But I think the real questions we should be asking are 1) why the perpetrator didn't use something more practical, like a cat-o'-nine-tails; and 2) where is PETA on this? The alleged assailant seems to have left his iguana high and dry to fend for itself. If that isn't cruelty to animals, I don't know what is.

Police learned that a 49-year-old man removed the iguana from inside his shirt and swung it around his head by the tail before throwing it at the restaurant manager.

Yes.

Or "Ravenna man".

^oh sure, try and give the credit to Ravenna. At this point I don't think it's been reported where the man is from, but I was mistaken to think he abandoned the iguana. Apparently the police removed it from his custody. Go figure.

Parma police are ridiculous and out of control. They often act as if they are above scrutiny by the mayor, council members, courts and the general public. Unfortunately, city taxpayers are going to pay for their hypersensitivity here, not the police department or individual police officers. And that's why they will be further emboldened to do this BS again, or worse....

^victim's vehicle found in Euclid, which of course triggered a spate of responses of what-do-you-expect-ism? Given Painesville's long history of not having the safest reputation it seems like a case of the pot calling the kettle black, not to make light of a tragic situation?

I can't find an MSM story, but apparently it was a literal blast, something blew up and he locked himself in a CVS bathroom.  This was Anthony.

Here's Pasquale (Butchie's real name)

Those two would likely be highly placed if their dad had lived, he was one of the younger made men IIRC.   It's very unlikely they would have ended up on drugs.

Wow. It’s about all gone.

I would bet it’s arson. Fires don’t burn that fast without accelerant.

Wow! I noticed the huge plume of black smoke from the window of my top floor apartment all the way over on Cedar Hill!

It was started by some sort of explosion. We felt it all the way over by the middle school. Heard multiple people walking around this evening saying the same thing.  Hopefully they weren’t working on a Sunday and the site was empty.

This is that new construction?  How awful!

Interstate 90 was closed West of West 117th street. The sides of the highway have caught fire. These are traffic cams. Note the locations.
