April 11, 200916 yr Amazing. This is what happens when people have pride in their city: their actions reflect that and an outsider can't help but notice that residents here care. The city population is only 65,000, but the level of activity and the integrity of its urban fabric make it seem bigger than other cities more than twice its size. Thumbs up!
April 11, 200916 yr I like these a lot! As usual your compositions are excellent, and you use just enough zoom to convey the density. Portland appears to be heavily gentrified, but some of the photos let me think there might be a blue-collar, working-class element still present too. Did you form any impressions in that regard while you were there?
April 12, 200916 yr I sure did, plenty of fishermen of course.. As well as the industry and grit along the water from the port and ferry industries. Also a good amount of hippies and transients. Reminded me a lot of Asheville, NC and the mix of people there.
April 12, 200916 yr Portland looks a lot taller than I remember it. I was there in 2002 with the fam for about 6 hours, and we really only stayed near the harbor.

April 13, 200916 yr Portland is a fantastic city, incredibly walkable, I nearly moved there for a job and still frequently regret not taking it. Winters are a bit chilly though!
