Posted April 13, 200916 yr Hi all...I am hoping that the forum can lend me some of their expertise in a new work assignment my ad agency has been tasked with handling for a recruitment firm. The construction firm has an enormous project taking place in Central Africa next year and they are looking for over 1,500 construction workers/engineers to relocate for a period of a few months. Does anyone know of anywhere online that construction workers/engineers may congregate? Are there construction/engineering social networks?
April 13, 200916 yr http://www.constructionwork.com/ Probably find a lot of engineers here: http://www.indeed.com/ Maybe Craigslist? A lot of people look there for short term contracts.
April 13, 200916 yr "Just go to the local labour shop and hire a bunch of Mexicans." An actual response that I received when I asked a similar question. Craigslist is a good starting point, but if you go to the labour shops, you can find a lot of individuals who would be willing to do a short-term relocation.

I thought that was resricted to odd jobs around your house! You know.. the old home depot with the pickup truck and they all pile in.. But anyway why are they wanting people from here to relocate.?. Are there not any able bodied men in africa that can do manual labor??? Shoot.. I'd jump on that pickup truck..to live in Africa for a few months..
April 13, 200916 yr That's really not a bad idea. Even if you posted ads in Mexico; if they have experience adhering to American developers' high standards of construction guidelines from working in the Southwest region or elsewhere, then you have some extremely cheap, quality labor. Hey, I'm a capitalist.
April 13, 200916 yr Thanks guys for the suggestions, I appreciate it. The client emphasized that they are looking for quality, experienced applicants, who were ideally bilingual. I'm not sure I can suggest to them to "drive up to Home Depot in a pick-up." The company has been chosen to provide front-end engineering and engineering, procurement, and construction work for a planned liquefied natural gas processing facility in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Sounds a little more complicated than hanging drywall.

Let the firm know that the Cleveland Engineering Society is currently offering *free* job postings at http://www.cesnet.org/. Click on "Employment Opportunities" at the top of the page, then click on "Post a Job." They might also want to try the Construction Employers Association.
