Posted April 13, 200916 yr Ohio Driver's Licenses Getting New Design 4/13/2009 6:00:49 AM Associated Press Ohio is redesigning its driver's licenses to add security features and simplify the information listed on the cards. More below: www.ap.com
April 13, 200916 yr EEEEK. Oh god, my picture is going to be hideous. That red (fuschia) doesn't work with my skintone.
April 13, 200916 yr Not a fan of it... I think this new one is cluttered.. I dont see anything being simplified like the article states.
April 13, 200916 yr Not a fan of it... I think this new one is cluttered.. I dont see anything being simplified like the article states. my eye goes to that big O and the jumbled information in the middle. The designer should be fired! Fushia doesn't work with much... I know honey, I know. Even in spring it's a color I have a hard time working.
April 13, 200916 yr Agreed, ugly new design and no improvement in clutter. I hope we didn't pay much for it.
April 13, 200916 yr I am making the big switch to a NY license here.. they look like a piece of art compared to that..
April 13, 200916 yr Hate it...although I don't like the current design all that much either. What I do like is the simple look of the licenses for those under the age of 21. They're simple and less 80's looking.
April 13, 200916 yr I'm suddenly glad to have a KY driver's license. On a semi-related note, I also like not having a plate on the front of my car.
April 13, 200916 yr Two good things about Ohio car registration: no inspection, and no requirement to already have insurance on the newly purchased vehicle before you can get a temp tag. All in all it's a more user-friendly system than many states have.
April 14, 200916 yr Ohio Driver's Licenses Getting New Design 4/13/2009 6:00:49 AM Associated Press Bohrer says the state is also redesigning temporary driver's permits and identification cards to make them easier to distinguish from licenses. Why? The only people who need to know that are cops and DMV people, who can tell the difference anyway.
March 1, 20187 yr Ohio is getting new drivers licenses again. Starting July 2, your card will be mailed to you instead of being printed at the BMV. Strangely, you will be able to choose whether you want a "Compliant Card" that meets federal regulations or a "Standard Card" that doesn't. If you choose the Standard Card you won't be able to fly without bringing your passport. This seems extremely confusing, I'm not sure why they would even continue to produce non-compliant cards.
March 1, 20187 yr ^Forced federal IDs will make too many nutjobs go ballistic... especially the same day Trump said take all the guns.

Something we all lose very easily along with SS cards and birth certificates. Like it's not inconvenient enough to gather up all your filed away alternate forms of identification, before standing in that obnoxious line at the BMV, right? Now you have to wait weeks for what you're trying to obtain, after going through all of that. It sounds like the process of getting a new debit card. You know what though? There's actually banks that print out debit cards for you right at their branches, when you happen to lose one. PNC Bank does that in Shaker Square (Cleveland.) You walk in and tell them you need a new debit card and walk out soon after, with a debit card that has your name imprinted on it. They have the press or printer or whatever, right there. There's no excuse for that 'waiting weeks' nonsense anymore.

There's no excuse for that 'waiting weeks' nonsense anymore. I don’t like the inconvenience either, but the fact is that Ohio was one of the last states to hold out from mailing drivers licenses. They give you a price a paper, similar to them printing out your registration papers, to serve as an interim ID until you receive it in the mail. Source: going to college in Indiana where it’s been like that for a long time.
March 1, 20187 yr Make an ID required for voting then make obtaining an ID mote difficult. Hmmmm I was thinking the same thing. Could it be the downstate rural politicians capitalizing on a Federal law being forced upon them?
March 1, 20187 yr I'm glad I need a new ID a couple weeks after the new ones are issued. I actually still have the pink ID and never got the blue one that was issued in the last 4 years. I don't like the idea of mailing them, though. I would rather just walk into the DMV and walk out with my ID. I've never had a long wait or any issues at the DMV in downtown Cincinnati. But if I am getting this right, we'll still have to walk into the DMV, bring additional paperwork, get our photo, and then wait for our ID to come in the mail?
March 1, 20187 yr Yea I have not received a couple of credit cards in the mail when the old ones expire. When I call them to comment that I haven't received my replacements it seems that's a fair amount of what they deal with. There are stories every few months about postal carriers dumping mail in the trash...
March 1, 20187 yr So are these going to be bendy like Minnesota and Texas licenses (and presumably other states), or still the rigid plastic credit-card type ones? “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

If you just want a "standard" license that you can't fly with, you don't have to bring any additional paperwork except for your current license. If you want a federally compliant one, you have to bring additional paperwork. Once you have a federally compliant license, I'm not sure whether you will be able to renew it and get a new federally compliant license, or if you'll have to bring your passport or birth certificate to the BMV every single time you renew.
March 1, 20187 yr So what exactly saves them money? The fact that they don't have to have printers at every location? Is that really so expensive?
March 1, 20187 yr I bet the federal requirements would make staffing at DMVs and resources required at DMVs too great to be at every location. A centralized location will save money. I don't know if it's actually going to cost less than it does now, but the mailing of IDs may save money over the alternative with the new requirements.
March 1, 20187 yr So what exactly saves them money? The fact that they don't have to have printers at every location? Is that really so expensive? I don't think it's primarily a money saving thing. They are switching to a new process for printing the licenses that will be more difficult to counterfeit. So instead of buying all new printers for all of the BMVs where you can currently get your license, they're just going to print them centrally.
March 2, 20187 yr Seems like the next step should be renewal through the mail. Won't work because of the vision test. As long as that ugly pink is going away. Kasich promised that like when he was first elected, along with getting rid of the Farmville plates.
March 2, 20187 yr The ugly pink has already been gone. I got my new one last May and it's similar in design to the pink one but it's blue. My car still rocks the Farmville plates haha. edit: here's a sample of the current one:
March 2, 20187 yr The pink was better because it was harder to counterfeit. State GOP thought it was too girly.
March 2, 20187 yr I only skimmed through your post before seeing the picture of a drivers license and thought, "Dear lord, did this guy really just post an unedited picture of his drivers license on the internet!?" :D
March 2, 20187 yr The state could make a lot of money by letting people customize their drivers license. From guys if they had OSU Buckeyes, Harley-Davidson, etc. editions. From women if they allowed glamour shots or at least let them choose from filters. Or maybe even the ability to upload a secondary photo in place of the finger-print. People would probably be willing to pay an extra $20 for that crap. If it's going to take 2 weeks to get anyway, I think it would be fantastic if you could go online and customize it before it's printed.

March 2, 20187 yr You Google-mapped his address!? What a creep-@ss. (Just kidding, I know why you did it. Hell, Sample is his last name.)
March 2, 20187 yr You Google-mapped his address!? What a creep-@ss. (Just kidding, I know why you did it. Hell, Sample is his last name.) Actually for some reason the address seemed really familiar. When I was a child I had a great uncle that lived in Barberton. Just curious where East Ave was.

A woman I've been "talking to" lately said that when she get her license she never bothers dolling up because she rarely does anymore and she doesn't want an ID that rarely looks like her. (I called BS of course lol)
March 8, 20187 yr Here's a tool for figuring out what document you will need to bring to the BMV in order to get a compliant license. It's actually a bit of a pain. I assumed you would just be able to bring your current license and a passport or birth certificate. But you also need to bring your social security card and two different documents that prove your current address (bank statement, pay stub, tax return, etc.).

Make it harder to get ID, make ID required to vote. Poor people who move a lot need not apply.

But a non-driver ID should be free, and required to vote. If it's not free it can be considered a poll tax.
