Nice pictures. I have only driven through Hartford on the interstate, so I don't really know much about it. It does have an impressive skyline, and these pictures make it seem more vibrant than we are usually led to believer.

Good looking city. I don't why I'm surprised, but the oldest architecture is very British. I guess I figured the English arrivals would make more of an attempt to distinguish the new world from the old. Even the new architecture (from the past 100 years or so), would still let a Brit feel right at home in Hartford.

I'm curious ... what's the vibe like in Hartford? Like how does it feel compared to Columbus?

It's much smaller than Columbus, feel-wise.  It's more Dayton/Toledo/Akron, with an office park-esque downtown (re: Clayton, Missouri).  The city abrutly terminates into the Connecticut River and the areas southwest of downtown are vibrant Puerto Rican hoods.  Areas to the north are very west Dayton/east Columbus while west is all rich folks in the hills.  Overall, Hartford is a tweener between a Dayton/Akron/Toledo and a Columbus/Indy/Charlotte.

Excellent photos, and a handsome, dense city core. Hartford looks much better than I had often heard.

i see the metro pop is dayton-esque, but the city is only 18 sq mi. -- it does feel fairly dense. i've been there a couple times to the wadsworth museum. downtown seems lively enough. i think like columbus, it's kind of an insurance business town.

 

i've only ever driven, but i know you can take amtrak to hartford from ny (or metro-north to new haven & then amtrak). however, the uber college town of new haven is probably a better place to spend a day if you are just exploring and hanging out. yale aside, just the pizza alone in new haven will ruin you for pizza for life !!!  :clap:

 

I love how these not-so-big New England cities pack an urban punch.
