November 4, 200915 yr Ya. Monzel, Winburn, and depending on the day Ghiz are not for the streetcar. Cole I have no idea about. Everyone else should be good
November 4, 200915 yr Cincinnati Issue 9: Passenger Rail 264 Of 285 Precincts Reporting Candidate/Issue Votes Percent No 35,362 56.0% Yes 27,805 44.0%
November 4, 200915 yr 264 of 285 precincts, No at 56%. Way to go Cincinnati - this is huge for the future of the city.
November 4, 200915 yr Roxanne Qualls 38,223 9.0% Cecil Thomas 31,517 7.5% Chris Bortz 29,243 6.9% Jeff Berding 27,145 6.4% Leslie Ghiz 26,737 6.3% Chris Monzel 26,655 6.3% Charlie Winburn 25,783 6.1% Laketa Cole 25,518 6.0% Laure Quinlivan 25,262 6.0%
November 4, 200915 yr Wow, it's kinda awkward watching the 11 p.m. news on 5, 9, and 12. A lot of stuttering, bad cut-aways, and silence. "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
November 4, 200915 yr ...And Jason "The Dean™ of Cincinnati" Haap is second-to-last in the school board race. Icing on the cake!
November 4, 200915 yr The city Precincts have a higher reporting % than the county. I'm seeing 93% for the city and only 77% for the county.
November 4, 200915 yr UncleRando, thomasbw, and The Provost: You guys deserve as much credit as anybody else for helping defeat Issue 9. My hat is off to you, and the city of Cincinnati owes its thanks to you for helping get the truth out. Next time we all get together, your drinks are on me!
November 4, 200915 yr I know it's not final yet, but.... WAY TO BATTLE !!!!!!   You all did great mobilizing to get out the vote against this ridiculous ballot issue. You battled misinformation with truth and a vaguely-written ballot issue with accurate and effective facts.
November 4, 200915 yr Looking good! I'll admit....I was one of the doubters, but it looks like we are going to pull through here. How exciting!
November 4, 200915 yr This is so good to hear for the City of Cincinnati! Very important hurdle cleared.
November 4, 200915 yr Congratulations from All Aboard Ohio! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
November 4, 200915 yr CONGRATS TO PROGRESS IN CINCINNATI!!! "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
November 4, 200915 yr Still holding.... Cincinnati Issue 9: Passenger Rail 281 Of 285 Precincts Reporting Candidate/Issue Votes Percent No 37,561 56.2% Yes 29,326 43.8%
November 4, 200915 yr The theory some of us/me have is if the more conservative westside votes no, issue 9 will fail. They're easy to bad mouth but most do like their city a (not your stereotypical) Westsider Concur! Having an OTR to celebrate! Nice work ALL!
November 4, 200915 yr Jesus Christ, I'd give my left testicle to be at Arnold's or Grammer's right now....
November 4, 200915 yr KUDOS to everyone. Your hard worked paid off. Tomorrow we should have the neighborhood breakdowns. Enjoy tonight!
November 4, 200915 yr GREAT JOB AT SPREADING THE WORD GUYS! WE KEPT THE CAMPAIGN CLEAN, STUCK TO THE FACTS, AND CINCINNATI WILL BE MUCH BETTER OFF BECAUSE OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!!! CELEBRATE TONIGHT AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO HELP MAKE CINCINNATI A WORLD CLASS CITY AGAIN! Also the casino looks to be in good shape so we can add CASINO to part of the many great destinations along the route of the CINCINNATI STREETCAR!
November 4, 200915 yr This is fantastic news, as someone who had to move away for grad school, but planned on returning, this failed issue will definitely help convince me to return... would have had my doubts if it passed
November 4, 200915 yr ^^ Every good Cincinnatian eventually finds their way home. I'm hoping to do likewise in a few months, if all goes well.
November 4, 200915 yr Put a fork in it. Cincinnati Issue 9: Passenger Rail 285 Of 285 Precincts Reporting Candidate/Issue Votes Percent No 38,132 56.2% Yes 29,740 43.8% ISSUE 9 =
November 4, 200915 yr Not to get too far ahead. There is still lots of funding needed to get started.
November 4, 200915 yr Let's hope some stimulus money is coming down the pike. Wouldn't surprise me if the feds were waiting to see how this Issue 9 thing turned out before they made a decision.
November 4, 200915 yr I think I read on the Ifrastructurist blog that Portland is getting 75 million from the Feds to add to their system. This would pay for a large chunk of the Cincinnati system if we could get something like that. Also, way to go all those who organized to fight Issue 9. Cudos and a raise of the glass to you.
November 4, 200915 yr Issue 1 (Veteran Funding) = Yes Issue 2 (Livestock) = Yes Issue 3 (Casinos) = Yes Issue 6 (Cinci Museum Levy) = Yes Issue 7 (Cinci Library Levy) = Yes Issue 9 (Light Rail Amendment) = No Mayor = Mallory Spelling a few things wrong here... but oo tired to look into it: Was a Grammer's with Jenny (@recycledbin), Kevin Lemaster (@buildingcincy), Travis Estill, Ronny Salerno (@queencitydisco), Melanie (@xumelanie), Ben (@benwessel), Jake Mecklenberg, John Schneider, Brad Thomas, J.T., and countless others. What a FANTASTIC turnout.
November 4, 200915 yr Awesome!! I have been following this for a while and I'm happy to hear the results. Go Cincy!!
November 4, 200915 yr Great outcome! Now let's hope funding comes through before the thread hits 300 pages. :jo:
November 4, 200915 yr Congratulations guys! Came here first for the results and was not disappointed. Keep up the good work, I'm sure this won't be the last hurdle (although certainly one of the most unnecessary.)
November 4, 200915 yr I am so happy for the city of Cincinnati right now! Let's not forget this energy, and move quickly in actually getting rails on the ground! Great job to everyone involved with the No on 9 campaign...thank you. Our world class library secured funding, our world class museum center continues to be backed by the community, Cincinnatians make it loud and clear they want a transit system, we're getting a casino, the Bengals are winning, Bearcats are in the top 5...what a great time to be a Cincinnatian!
November 4, 200915 yr Fantastic. Mayor Mallory even made an unexpected brief stop at Arnold's tonight to congratulate the No on 9'ers.
November 4, 200915 yr To everyone who wrote, phoned, worked, voted -- and most of all, believed -- thanks for the Herculean effort over the past few months. Today was the true beginning to shape a balanced transportation system for Greater Cincinnati. As someone said on the night of our huge loss in 2002, "We're running a marathon here, not a sprint." We're now at about Mile 7. Thanks again.
November 4, 200915 yr I couldn't be prouder of our city! Streetcars + Casino = OTR urban renaissance. :drunk: :police:
November 4, 200915 yr Laketa Cole is pro-streetcar unless she decides to pick a fight with Mallory, which seems unlikely. If you're a D it's best to be on Mallory's good side considering he's likely headed back to some state or to some national office at some point. The night was a clean sweep for pro-city causes with the exception of the reappearance of Charlie Winburn. I doubt that Laurie Q will rock the boat in any way, but Charlie Winburn is a bringer of chaos. I doubt that he will be particularly effective at anything other than appearing on the Bill Cunningham show slightly less than Leslie Ghiz. Also, that 2 of 3 top-3 vote getters are Charterites I think is quite remarkable. What other city has a local political party that wins that kind of support?
November 4, 200915 yr The casino is the big wild card now. I fear that they will offer big private funding in exchange for naming rights and/or wrapping the streetcars in pro-casino graphics. That's a tough thing for a city to resist in any budget climate.
November 4, 200915 yr Once you have light rail to Gilbert, everything in eastern Cincinnati opens up.
November 4, 200915 yr The night was a clean sweep for pro-city causes with the exception of the reappearance of Charlie Winburn. I doubt that Laurie Q will rock the boat in any way, but Charlie Winburn is a bringer of chaos. I doubt that he will be particularly effective at anything other than appearing on the Bill Cunningham show slightly less than Leslie Ghiz. My thoughts exactly, kudos to everyone who helped promote the issue!
November 4, 200915 yr Being at Arnold's tonight when "victory" was declared was great. All kinds of different people with different political leanings and cultural backgrounds coming together to support a good cause, it was a good feeling. HaHaHa: The one, the only, Urban Ohio's own, John Schneider: It's been great to have been a part of this, I just hope the city continues this upward swing of momentum. Cincinnati really is making progress. More Pictures here: http://queencitydiscovery.blogspot.com/2009/11/victory-proclaimed-in-cincinnati-issue.html
November 4, 200915 yr Good job my fellow cincinnatians!! What a fantastic night!! Thanks to everyone that helped us defeat issue 9!!!
November 4, 200915 yr Great pics from Arnold's... Wish I could've been there. Is everybody else as hung over as I am?
