Who was that who used to post on The Enquirer's site with the Sarah Palin mug shot?  He's always egg them on with "let that anger pour forth!".

Channel 19 just did a story on the city's attempt to purchase the property at the north end of the route as a car barn and pulled quotes from UrbanOhio - a few posters were mentioned.  Just kind of funny to watch....

Hahaha, thanks for the heads up. Quimbob, cincySAL and I were quoted. :D

They botched the "nati" part of my name, though, and reduced it to "nat". :( Don't trash the nat!

It seems to be a new theme among local reporters to grab quotes from the internet instead of actually conducting interviews (e.g. the Enquirer quoting CincyBlog in the recent Smitherman piece). At least they interviewed Wendell Young.

And of course, the lone comment on the story so far is from some old friends.

Good God Mark Miller might actually have no life

I can't believe they are citing the internet for that story.  Wow.

That is unbelievable hilarious, and pathetic at the same time....there was my 3 seconds of fame!!

^ The building shown in the news report is not the building the city wants for the car barn. The city wants the one to its east, which is part of the same ownership, plus the parking lot at Race and Henry. The building in the news report would remain.

lord, they're quoting this guy?

what the hell, after all the press they give COA T Clowns.....

This goes to show we have to be careful what we post here.  Are they allowed to just pull quotes like that without asking permission?  That doesn't seem right to me.  I wouldn't want them quoting me without my permission.

we quote them (and also post links)

LOL.  Oops!

^Maybe they'll quote UO with the correction? :-P

Nice - the quotes were probably better than most of the material they make their talking heads read anyway.

Maybe Channel 19 can just have a segment where they synthesize everything that goes on in this forum.

They should give Jmeck a spot, with a jokester ColDayMan acting as a foil. They could invite on regular posters for discussion. Imagine Eighth & State and CincyCapell going at it during an hour long special dedicated to the 8-foot rule.

On UrbanCincy there are some comments saying Winburn has become a streetcar supporter. Anyone know any details about this?

Thanks to this entry, I pedaled over to City Hall for the presentation to the Roxanne Qualls's Livable Communities Committee (is the council as a whole the Unlivable Communities Committee?) and as one of maybe three non-bureaucrats in the audience, was one of very few witnesses to Charlie Winburn's 170 degree reversal on the streetcar, which would connect to his relocated College of Law.
I saw this on TV. I about fell out of my chair when Winburn asked about there being a plan for development up Vine to Uptown/Clifton.

kinda scary

I hear Sittenfeld voted against the city's acquiring the car barn site today.

Like...just buying it? Or taking it by eminent domain?

Interesting...I don't know what to make of that.  What are their alternatives if they can't get the building they want?  Have they looked at any other potential sites?  There are quite a few vacant lots without buildings along Race/Elm, however I would think that would end up being pretty pricey to have to build a new warehouse type structure and wouldn't exactly look nice next to all those historic buildings that will end up being renovated.

^ looking at a map of the entire route Henry really is the BEST if not only option for this structure.  I think that vote was just him supporting his Westside base.

^PG has a westside base?  I was unaware of that.  I thought most of his votes (and money) came from the east.  It's a moot point yet I still have my own personal reservations about this guy.  He's quick to rub elbows with the downtown crowds and get his picture taken tapping kegs in all, yet he really hasn't done a damn thing to advance the streetcar cause.

Does he still skirt around the question when asked directly about the streetcar?

^ Not sure if it's west side or not, but his fiscal base is composed of old Cincy money that are friends of his family.  They are usually in the anti-streetcar crowd.

PG is the Mitt Romney of Cincinnati. Pander to everybody, commit to nothing.

Based on what? If they are so anti-streetcar why aren't they supporting COAST?

^ They probably have reputations to uphold

Ya, there's a big difference between "not supporting the streetcar" and supporting COAST. And Octo mentioned PG's base being Westside. I saw a breakdown that showed he was the top vote getter in Westwood and top 3 in price hill. Crazy!

But either way- at this point they would be flip floppers.

Is there any design type plan for the car barn? Is Cincinnati looking to imitate some other city's barn?

It'd be nice if they could use a core & use the streetsides for retail, etc.

That's just because he's white and his supporters saw the possibility that bortz and ghiz might lose.

Anyone know what's going on with utility relocation? Where are the waterworks people working? Where have they finished?

Elm Street water main has been moved between 12th and Elder -- about two more blocks to go.

Contract has been let, or is about to be let, for moving the water main on Race Street.

Scope of sewer work has been defined, and they are now working on documents.

Cincinnati Bell has signed-off on relo. They want to be between the tracks because their wires will be more protected there.

Scope defined with Level3; docs in the works.

Duke now agress with three-foot separation, working on cost-sharing details now.

Bottom line: as far as I can tell, the utility issues are getting settled, as is always the case with street-running rail projects.

Duke now agress with three-foot separation, working on cost-sharing details now.

:-) details?

Great news regarding Duke.

Does the scope of the sewer work having been defined mean MSD is playing nice now? Are they still passing up the opportunity to make upgrades due to silly politicking?

Thanks for the update. This thread has been lacking them.

Nice.

I'm guessing GoCOAST twitter feeds will be extraordinarily crazy today

Metro is hiring a director of rail operations 5/21.

^Can you apply for it with one year left of a photo degree and lots of experience with Legos. Cause I know a guy...

All's quiet on the Loony Front. I wonder what they're up to.

550's Brian Thomas is still harassing the streetcar and humping Chris Smitherman's leg every morning.  He's been inviting all his blue hair listeners out to lunch with Smitherman, who is no doubt hoodwinking into giving him campaign donations.

Music Hall wants a few $100K for sound proofing from the noise that the streetcar will make while passing by. . .

All 5 streetcars at full throttle are a fraction of the sound of a typical car stereo.

Not to mention a bus rolling over cobblestones at 25mph.

My guess is they just want to get as much money from the city as possible.

Chris Finney was just on 700 WLW...called Milton Dahoney "Bernie Madoff".

Yet again railed against public employee pensions...then for the millionth time suggested that the pension fund be funded by capital funds, which is illegal.  I mean, when, if ever, will the public come to understand the rationale for general/capital budgets, restricted vs. unrestricted funds, and so on?

Never as long as more people in the public eye lie to them rather than tell them the truth.
