Anything "conjested" must be destroyed for its own good.

kjbrill can't make these connections because event chains in his mind are only two links long.

"Streetcart got built. Money disappeared."

"Guy got on streetcar. Fare was $1.60 but would have been $1.85 at market rate. Streetcar lost money"

Not even "Streetcar got built. People left Mason. kjbrill's house lost value". That's 3 links. Or "Streetcar got built. People left Mason. kjbrill never had to deal with 'conjestion' again"

"Two-link thinking." I like it. Er, I like the description. Not the thinking.

This is an express train of thought to Erroneous Conclusion. There will be no available connections at our final destination.

John Cranley owns property along the streetcar route.  Derek Bauman just made this announcement via twitter

The property he owns is a building on 7th street

Derek tweeted it perfectly.

Cranley is using the streetcar as a wedge issue to hopefully get elected.  If elected, he will say he can't stop the streetcar.  Then he will profit off of it.

The big question now is WHEN did he buy the property.  If he bought it after he came out against it, he will take some serious criticism.  Even if he bought it before, Qualls can really go after him.  If he bought it right after the route was announced, that's pretty bad as well for him politically

If it was bought in the 90's or so, then its pretty much a non issue.  Regardless, its further affirmation that he will not stop the first phase of the streetcar if elected

1995 @ the auditor's site

It wasn't bought by John Cranley.  It was bought by John Cranley's dad- they have the same name. I would bet as he is very old now, that John Cranley is a property controller, however.  It's also a horribly underutilized building full of half vacant class C office space. I also bet he's had to refuse several redevelopment offers in order to show that he doesn't profit off the streetcar.

The Secretary of State lists John Cranley Jr. and John Cranley III as members of the LLC, does anyone know which John Cranley is the mayoral candidate?  Is he possibly the IV?

The idiotic one.

lemme guess, the middle name is John, too.

crimny, people there's other names out there.

Once the combo starts rolling, it's disrespectful to your ancestors to break it.

C-c-c-c-c-ombo breaker!

Can Cranley at least be portrayed as belonging to a local clan that isn't keeping their property up as would be expected of a mayor?

Someone might need a little time away from the Twitter.

Seriously, she needs a campaign manager or at least a good friend who's willing to cut her off from the internet.  That was terrifyingly tragic.

I haven't heard of a plan that does...

She does not understand how to use Twitter. I tweeted the following:

Shorter @beamon4council: “Grow up a buy a car! If you want to take transit, move to another city! We don’t want you here anyway!”

and she re-tweeted it and said:

@taestell your words NOT MINE.  I'LL MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS JUST HOW YOU FEEL!

Maybe's she's been drinking the Queen Noble juice.

Oh Golly, you can't do that, question the cost of the streetcar against several items which affects your daily life day in day out, week in week out. What are you thinking? Just trust the govenment will bail your ass out.

My brother visited this morning, he and the SIL are going to Detroit tomorrow to visit some old friends. Then they planned to drive to New England and visit several national parks and monuments. Now they are finding out these places will be closed due to the Federal Government Slimdown. Our Federal, State, and Local governments are all in a state of meltdown. You cannot trust a damn thing they say. Any your particularly cannot trust any of the sub-layers trying to convince us we are in good hands and everything is working good.

Yes, the sky is falling. Let's all move to underground bunkers in the desert. That's the only way we'll be safe.

Slimdown is the word Fox News is using for the shutdown on their website, to make it seem like a good thing.

We might not need to go so far for our bunkers... What is going on in Peebles?  :-o

Thought it might be interesting, since I am fortunate enough to live on the streetcar route and not everyone else does... I got this email yesterday -

"Mr. Über-

My name is Mike King.  I work for Messer Co. & represent Messer/Prus/Delta Railroad JV.  MPD is the contractor for the streetcar project.  We are responsible for contacting building owners along the route.  Please confirm that you own these properties and contact information.

Call me to discuss further as needed; Thanks!"

(Yes, he did include the umlaut -- this is Cincinnati, after all.) Mike then replied this morning -

"Good morning!

Are these properties occupied?  If so, I would like to place door hangers on each tenants door to inform them of our activity.  We will be starting track work preparations the week of 10/14 on Elm, 15th to Liberty; work will take approximately 5 weeks. The east 3 lanes will be blocked; traffic will be maintained in the far west lane.  There will be no parking on Elm during this time.

The city has set up a weekly e-mail update on the streetcar progress.  With your permission, I could have you signed up.

Kindly advise regarding the occupancy and the e-mail update or if you have any questions.  I can be reached at this e-mail or the number below."

I thought that was very professional and organized.

^ All the difference in the world since John Deatrick has been in charge.

The streetcar is going to Third Street and not Second, correct? Because something about special track needed to go over FWW?

The route to 2nd is still displayed on the city's webpage, so I am a bit confused.

Doesn't it have to get to 2nd? Since it needs to head east to Main from Walnut and 2nd goes east and 3rd goes west.

First I've heard of any special track needed for crossing FWW, but it is going to Second Street as jmicha noted it needs to go from Walnut to Main and 3rd only goes West.

Okay so maybe I was thinking of an inability to go over the Banks garage? I know I'm not insane...I think? Lol

Thanks guys.

^I feel like I heard that as well. Because wasn't it originally supposed to go a block into The Banks? But then The Banks garage structure wasn't designed for it so that's why it's going to 2nd Street now.

Or my mind is also making stuff up haha.

It was originally going to go south into The Banks. When they trimmed the route for budgetary reasons, they shortened it to 2nd Street.

I could swear John or someone else in-the-know said it was related to the type of rails needed to go on top of (I guess it was the garage).

You may be right... it was probably a combination of cost and technical reasons. Similar to how the north end was going to travel all the way to McMicken Street, but would've had to go around some extremely sharp turns. So, by shortening it to Henry Street, they spend less money because it's one block shorter, still get most of the benefit, and don't have to engineer those sharp turns.

>Because something about special track needed to go over FWW?

The pavement on the Main and Walnut overpasses is different from the pavement on the other overpasses.  It was built in anticipation of light rail tracks, and so an upper layer of concrete can be torn up without having to reconstruct the bridge deck.  The pavement on Second St. was also built in preparation for light rail tracks over its entire length to the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge.  Going back to the late 90s, it was anticipated that a light rail line would cross the Ohio River on a new bridge immediately west of the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge.  The pavement on Freedom Way, or whatever it's called, may or might not have been built with this type of pavement.  I don't know.

In other news I was near Music Hall tonight when a big event let out.  Many people were looking at and talking about the streetcar track construction.  Great for people to see that it's real.

They're not taking it south of 2nd Street because they would prefer not to build over the garages -- it just adds another layer of complication, literally. Plus I think it's good that people will filter through the commercial district of The Banks on their way to and from the park.

As the walkshed extends into the water, I suppose you get diminishing returns. Hence a big problem with the Oasis line.

today's pour has gone from almost 12th and elm to music hall. Also a cat jumped in at one point.

oh, CO    is going to be all over THAT!

The cat is probably a COAST drone sent back from the future to sabotage the project and save Cincinnati from itself.

Streetcat Tracks

How far down is the concrete? It doesn't appear that there will be room for cobblestones, unless it will only exist in front of Music Hall and not the entire 1200 block.

What they are pouring today is pretty deep. In my photo above, you can see how far a manhole cover is sticking out. It looks like they are going to pour another layer of concrete above this once they get the steel rails in place.

Kind of hope they leave the streetcat tracks.  You won't see them anyway since it'll be under the cobblestones.

Cobblestones will cover this cement pour for the entire length. Rail likely to be delivered in 2 weeks. I've been told overall things are moving slightly quicker than expected.

They could be Bearcat tracks.

Did anybody get the cat? I would hate tho think the poor guy is hobbling around with dried concrete in his pads.
