October 4, 201311 yr Kind of hope they leave the streetcat tracks. You won't see them anyway since it'll be under the cobblestones. I didn't cross my mind until you posted this, but you are exactly right. The concrete that they poured today is underneath the parking lane and should be re-covered with cobblestones. The streetcar tracks will be placed one lane to the left, where the concrete truck is in my photo above. Also, streetcar manager John Deatrick confirmed that the all of the remaining stones will be removed, cleaned, and reinstalled. So that whole block of Elm Street should be really nice when this is all done, not at all like the un-level, bumpy mess that it was before.

October 4, 201311 yr The old gauge was 5ft. 21/2 inches. The new gauge is standard railroad gauge. The old broad gauge was chosen in order to prevent standard gauge freight cars from being towed through city streets.

Not only are the streetcars entirely low-floor, there is one more door per side of each streetcar as compared to the Skoda vehicles in Portland, Seattle, and Washington.

He would first need 5 members of council willing to fire Dohoney right away (there are likely some anti-streetcar people who sill wouldn't fire Dohoney right away). Then he would need to be willing to spend nearly $70 million canceling the project (paying back all utilities for work already done) paying profits to MPD and CAF, paying expenses incurred to both groups and millions in legal fees. And of course, returning the $44 million in federal grants. We would have rail in the ground and wouldn't have saved any money.
