No surprise there.  She is an vocal anti-streetcar person

I thought Kevin Johnson changed his mind

I'm no longer listing him as a supporter.

This will probably cause him to lose more votes than he gains.

That "congratulations" is a little bit premature...

I just removed him from my list.  Thanks.  I'll post that list again every few days until the election, since people tend to come to this thread to ask which candidates are supporters.

I figured he changed his mind when the FOP and FF endorsed him

Just saw a Cranley anti-Qualls anti-streetcar ad on WCPO. I guess that's a good sign (close race)?

D'yall think that if Cranley wins and actually does cancel the streetcar, that this will garner some national media attention, or maybe just within urban affairs/urban policy circles?

You should take down the Kasim Reed video until a disclaimer is added to it. Not sure it needs one, but I'd do it anyway.

Oh yes, this is the most-watched transit election in the nation this year.

Has this happened elsewhere....a tranist project that was killed due to an election (this being a local streetcar or light rail plan).

^ To my knowledge, never has a light rail or modern streetcar project been canceled -- for any reason -- after construction has begun. What's being proposed by John Cranley, if carried out, which it wont' be, would be unprecedented.

If Cranley is elected Cincinnati will be the world leader of cancelled transit projects. What a great reputation to have...

Cranely was on 700WLW today saying he would simply reassign the streetcar contractors to pave roads instead.

Without pollling data it is extremely hard to figure out who is likely to win this race.  Can someone that has a sense of who is the favorite give us an unbiased opinion?

^^ I am by no means unbiased (Qualls supporter like almost everyone else on here), but from what I've heard, Cranley is in the lead but within the margin of error. I have no idea where people got that information, but I believe it. Cranley doesn't want to admit that it is close, and Qualls doesn't want to admit she is behind (ignoring margin of error). I'm sure both candidates have had polls done, right?

^ thx that helps give the rest of us some perspective. if there are any local poll results available between now and election day, please post them!

I'm worried that if Cranley is elected, the streetcar as planned will be built, but he will aid COAST in passing a charter amendment that will bury any possibility of expansion until after he leaves office.  The charter amendment will require the consent of the mayor to build anything.

If any of you are Reddit users, there are a few recent conversations on the Cincinnati Reddit relating to the streetcar that could use some educated voices in the comments section. Also be sure to vote up the other intellegent comments:

Kansas City's mayor visits Cincinnati to promote streetcar

Mayoral and council candidates who say they’ll shut down the streetcar ignore the realities facing the project

It's nice to see you on there!

Business courier will have a big feature on the streetcar tomorrow available to everyone.  Will include costs of canceling,  contracts,  etc

Too bad the BC isn't Cincinnati's main newspaper. Their reporting is so professional. I can't believe I'm saying that about the business weekly, but really, it's like the fucking New York Times compared to the Enquirer. Such strange times.

The article up this morning "Could a Mayor Cranley still kill the streetcar" is for subscribers only, unfortunately. Is this the article with costs, etc?  If so, could someone post the relevant figures?

Ok.  I must be looking at the wrong article then, but I don't see another, except for yesterday's article on better transportation options.  Can you post a link?

Odd, I'm getting that it's a Subscriber-Only Article

"It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton

It primarily points out that Cranky can't shuffle money & contracts around, that road paving has to go through it's own bidding process.

State law requires cities pay for what contractors have ordered

Like the 3C money kasich wanted for other stuff, the money would just go elsewhere - whatever the city has spent would have to be returned.

It takes a number of Cranky's points & pretty much obliterates them.

I'd been logged out, too, maybe it's a November thing.

just logged back in.

It definitely says it's subscriber content to me (though I have a subscription, so I can still read it)

^ The link that John posted lets me in without a subscription.

Because, I guess, the BC feels there is great interest in this issue, they have unlocked the article.

No other media outlet has picked this story up.  That is disturbing

^ They will now. Just sent it to media.

You're the man, John!

The Enquirer can't produce a story that so roundly rebukes the #1 campaign promise of the clown they just endorsed.

Hypothetically, if Cranley were to get elected and decide he couldn't stop the streetcar... could he complete it and deliberately tank the service or would there be enough pushback from local business to prevent it from being undermined by unfriendly politicians on council?

^I hear that the federal grant requires a "minimum service level", so if the city stops running the streetcars, it has to repay the federal grant.

^ That's what I'm most worried about. He can definitely cause it to fail in any number of ways -- $5.00 fares, anyone? -- and with COAST, Smitherman and Luken prodding him, he will. But he's going to lose, so I've put that out of my mind.

By the way, why don't all the armchair quarterbacks on this board get out and canvass for Roxanne this weekend? She will have a massive operation going across the city. Forget the streetcar for a minute, there is much more at stake here.

Do it now, please.

That's correct. Even though Cleveland RTA has an anti-rail general manager, he knows he cannot stop or curtail rail service for 20 years after the most recent federally funded investment anywhere along its three rail lines. And GCRTA is constantly having to use federal funds for new ADA-compliant stations, bridges and other infrastructure. The only reason why GCRTA was able to significantly reduce service along its light-rail Waterfront Line during the recession was because GCRTA did not use any federal funds for its construction in 1994-96.

How many streetcars can the maintenance facility hold? ie. how many streetcars before we need to build a new facility? I understand we will be purchasing 5 streetcars initially with about 4 running at a time. I think I remember hearing something like 12 can be stored, but I can't be sure.
