World’s first 3D-printed skyscraper to be built in UAE

'Through our technologies, we will be able to build architecturally complex buildings at never-before seen speeds'

A construction firm based in Dubai has announced plans to build the world’s first 3D-printed skyscraper.

The company, called Cazza, has confirmed that it will be erected in the United Arab Emirates.

It says it will use a new technique called “crane printing” to create the building.

Fewer slave laborers when you can 3D print it!

Never been to Dubai but from what I've seen on google street view, Dubai looks like the most artificial city I've ever seen. It's pretty much one main strip of really tall skyscrapers. The lack of intricate side streets and alley ways is a bummer. I'm sure it will change over the decades, but I'm not sure how this differentiates between say Vegas or other artificial cities other than the fact it's more business orientated regarding the skyscrapers being built.

IMO the city has a neat futuristic niche going but at this point everything currently about the city screams no character, nor a soul for that matter. Dubai looks like oil tycoon the city.

I've been to Dubai and no, Dubai is not all like that.  There is an actual city of Dubai that is more urban than almost every city in this country except New York/San Fran/CC Philly.  Al Ras alone is would change your opinion quick.  Now Sheikh Zayed, Jumeirah Beach, etc I'll agree with you that they are touristy (not just for oil tycoons but for European, African, and Asian tourists who don't want to fly to America for fun) and "soulless" but it serves a purpose, much like how Las Vegas and Orlando do in this country.

I'm really curious how Dubai is doing. I was intrigued back in '06 - '08 when I heard all about the economic and real estate boom and about all these cool buildings being proposed and the large scale, unique tourist attractions but there isn't much news about the city anymore. Seems reasonable to believe it's because they're not doing so well. Something tells me it has to do with the fact that they don't actually have freedom of speech and press in UAE and that the town is actually in an epic downward spiral. The government is able to get away with blocking the outside world from knowing about it.

The bike race is a great way to get a better idea for the city...blink and you'll miss the BW3's at 29:57:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8rFomd0Lk8

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar have been doing major multi-day races in January and February for about five years.  It's warm when Europe's cold and I'm sure the prize money is pretty big.  Traditionally this was the off season for pro biking except for the occasional race in Australia or South Africa.

The Tour of Dubai is actually a pretty cool race because they get up in the arid mountains about 20 miles from the coast for a mountain stage and one or two of the stages end out on the Palm.  What this means is that an inland race in calm weather can all the sudden have nasty crosswinds for the sprint finish.  These guys are very scientific in how they plan out their energy exertion and so if they think they've got enough gas for the last 3 miles and all the sudden they hit a wall of wind all that discipline means nothing!

^ thats a great view of dubai and that was pretty funny about the bw3.

that bw3 remineded me, i dk if cafe bene is in ohio, its a big mediocre knockoff starbucks coffeeshop chain, but i was poking around streetview in ulan bataar in mongolia for some reason and on the one street i zoomed on where they had any noted food/retail suddenly there was a brand new cafe bene shop. it was kind of shocking to see that. the city did seem to be booming, so maybe more of that kind of thing to come. i imagine its like that in the new dubai areas, like suddenly, oh look a kfc or burger king lol. i noticed a lock of bootleg knockoffs in central asia, like mac burger with the arches, so i bet they have that kind of thing too in these pop-up boomtown city places.

actually caffe bene is in nj and boston too.

I am not surprised its korean, their western oriented chains are very oddly mediocre.

for example, paris baguette is another chain, it evokes a french bakery, but the food has absolutely no flavor at all due to cheap ingredients. all style over substance.

you aren't missing anything with these places.

Emaar denies claim that work halted on what will be the World's tallest building in Dubai

Reuters reported that Emaar suspends construction of the Dubai Creek Tower

Emaar Properties has denied a Reuters report that claims work has been halted on what will be the World's tallest building when completed.

Reuters revealed earlier in the day that Emaar had suspended projects at Dubai Creek Harbour. That included work on the Dubai Creek Harbour Tower, which will be higher than Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building.

However, Emaar chairman Mohammad Alabbar has now in a statement to Arabian Business denied those claims.

Speaking to Arabian Business, Alabbar said: “This is not even speculation or rumour, it is total lies and nonsense. And I am astonished that in this time, when the whole world is on lockdown, people can come up with this kind of thing to damage us. I won’t allow it. Let’s be clear. There is no virus on any of our sites. There are no cases of Covid-19. None of our sites have stopped operating.”

Of course it hasn't. The typical building process for something is begin, build your foundation, let it sit for three years, fail to hire a construction company willing or capable of building your structure that's taller than any current equipment can handle, ?????, open your building! Duh.

Dubai’s 56% Property Surge Collides With Ghosts of 2009 Crash

The emirate saw the world’s biggest climb in prime property prices in 2021, but several stalled projects still linger over its skyline.

By Nicolas Parasie

On Dubai’s luxury Palm Jumeirah island, a 10-bedroom mansion sold for a record $76 million in April. Demand for villas is soaring and a futuristic building is being constructed nearby with a 90-meter-high infinity pool and a giant tank of jellyfish.

Yet, right opposite, stand the concrete skeletons of four unfinished buildings from a stalled 20-year-old project called the Dubai Pearl — a reminder of how quickly booms can go bust.

Dubai homes worth US$844 million in new project sell out in hours

Zainab Fattah, Bloomberg News

About 800 homes in a Dubai residential development sold out within hours, indicating continued strength in the emirate’s property market and generating US$844 million for the firms backing the project.

The joint venture between Dubai Holding and Aldar Properties PJSC, Abu Dhabi’s biggest developer, sold out two phases in the “Haven” project on launch day, according to a statement on Wednesday. The firms sold 786 single-family homes and townhouses, with prices starting at 2.5 million dirhams ($680,648).

Dubai’s property market has broken a decade-long record for total home sales and seen rents jump to unprecedented levels. Average residential prices climbed 19.6 per cent in the year through September, CBRE Group Inc. said in a report last month, while rents surged 20.6 per cent.

That rebound from a seven-year slump has been fueled by an influx of newcomers relocating from Asia, to wealthy Russians seeking to shield assets. The government has also relaxed visa laws and introduced visas for job seekers and freelancers.

Dubai is home to world’s tallest skyscraper. Now it’s building the second-tallest, too

CNN —

Dubai’s super-sized skyline is already home to the world’s tallest skyscraper. Now, it is set to welcome the world’s second tallest, too.

The Burj Azizi broke ground in January this year, but its exact height was not disclosed at the time as its developer awaited approval from Dubai authorities, including the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), which is involved in planning for “supertall” buildings.

On Wednesday, however, real estate firm Azizi Developments announced that its skyscraper will tower over neighboring landmarks — all but one, that is — at a staggering 725 meters (2,379 feet) tall.

Super-thin skyscraper, just one apartment wide, planned for Dubai

By Lianne Kolirin, CNN

Published 12:30 AM EDT, Tue October 22, 2024

A super-narrow skyscraper, measuring no more than a single apartment across, is being planned for Dubai.

The Muraba Veil will reach 1,247 feet into the sky but will be just about 74 feet across, according to details revealed by the architects and developer behind the project.

The 73-story tower will feature 131 apartments with between two and five bedrooms each, according to a statement sent to CNN by the project’s United Arab Emirates-based developer, Muraba. The high-end apartment block will feature “a range of curated leisure amenities,” including a spa, restaurant, gallery, padel court and private movie theater, it said.

$1-billion Dubai skyscrapers to be linked by daring rooftop pool

By Oscar Holland, CNN

CNN —

Two new 591-foot-tall skyscrapers, linked across the top by a daring “sky pool,” are set to rise above Dubai’s Marasi Marina.

But the soaring 43-foot infinity pool will not be accessible to the public, or even to most of the luxury towers’ residents — it’s part of what its architects describe as an exclusive “ultra-penthouse.”

I was in Dubai for 36 hours following a convention - I didn't take any pictures... but it's an absolute disgrace...

So much innovative building and lofty designs for skyscrapers - but almost NONE of them connect with the streets below. It's a density dream with absolutely no multi-modal transportation infrastructure. I walked from my hotel to get dinner, and dodged cars the entire way.

Um, what part of Dubai did you go to?  The actual old city of Dubai is more urban than probably anywhere in the United States outside of NYC and they have a wonderful Metro/LRT system.  I've been to Dubai several times and have always enjoyed it.
