I see occasional pictures of and comments about license plates, but not a thread devoted to odd or clever plates. We need one that everybody can contribute to. I'll start:

Oh, man.  There are TONS of those in my area.  I guess it's an excuse to bring my camera with me wherever I go.  I'll try and find some.

One I heard about but never saw was a blue Plymouth Horizon with the Illinois plate: BEYOND

Beyond the horizon is pretty slick....

I saw the plate abbreviation before reading what was before it.  So I ending up reading it wrong. Dirty plate that way

I believe the plate didn't have spaces.  It is even easier to misinterpret ILVTOFU.

Haha, yeah even after I figured it had the ending "nicate" and thought it must work out to something at least ending with fornicate, it still took a little while to pick up on the Roman numeral.

Yess lol  [Crap] meaning something else.

The son's name was Cory.  The dad's plate said "Cors Dad."  Pretty terrible for that poor kid, I thought.

I cringe getting an Ohio license plate. I'm accustomed to the nice designs of Kentucky's (sans the damn smiley face plate we had for two years). My first plate was a Horse Council plate, which featured a... horse for the graphic. My second plate regards the Lincoln Bicentennial, and features a graphic of Lincoln on http://www.kylincoln.org. My next plate was to be Cumberland Falls, which has a beautiful graphic of the falls as a background, but I'm in Ohio now...

 

My tags are expired, but that is because it's been in the body shop for over a month due to an accident. I get my SUV back Monday, and will get new tags Tuesday.

Sorry, the horrible Kentucky smiley tags will never be forgotten.  I'll always laugh about it.

The Kentucky Smiley face plate goes down as one of the worst plates in US History.

What a relief this won't be the new Ohio plate. I still think the state should ditch the front plate requirement. That should save a few bucks.

Front plate probably isn't going anywhere. A lot of '90s cars and some of today's cars don't have enough flat surfaces to reflect laser speed detection back at the gun in order to obtain a reading. The front license plate serves that purpose.

If you smear mud/dirt on the front plate it makes it harder for the police to get your speed.

^^The new plate got knocked down to a specialty plate which the state already has an absurd amount of. But I would get a specialty plate if I was obligated to buy this design disaster.

 

Ohio mothballs new license plates

COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 17 (UPI) -- License plates co-designed by Ohio first lady Frances Strickland have been mothballed because drivers would be forced to pay $2.50 for them, officials say.

 

The "Beautiful Ohio" license plates featuring a bucolic, sun-kissed tableau were supposed to become the standard plate this year, but state officials nixed the idea and put 1 million of them in storage rather than force drivers to fork over cash for them during a recession, The Columbus Dispatch reported Sunday.

 

Their pastel-hued, agriculture-themed design was partly conceived by the wife of Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, the newspaper said.

 

"In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't sound like a lot of money, but it would be an additional cost we'd be passing along to the consumer," said Tom Hunter, spokesman for the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

They need to come up with one that it urban-centric... Not to disregard the states agricultural routes.. but...

^ Thank you, thank you. Vanity plates are fine. But pictures and logos and hobbies and causes on license plates only mess up the purpose of a plate.
