Posted April 23, 200916 yr Went to the Tribe/Yankees game this past Sunday at the new stadium. I have more, but I'm too lazy to post them now.. enjoy!
April 23, 200916 yr I heard this from someone... that the outside looks like something Mussolini might have built. How was the feeling inside the park? Intimate? Distinct?

April 23, 200916 yr Great! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

April 25, 200916 yr ... the outside looks like something Mussolini might have built. How was the feeling inside the park? At first glance, I thought it looked like the austere federal buildings that were built during the Great Depression: classical architecture with square columns instead of fluted round columns and scant ornamentation. That cornice on Gate 6 looks like a slab roof on a utility shed. Maybe the blandness could be on account of them having to build a huge stadium. I love the naturally-lighted interior spaces with the huge banners. Shades of Metropolis
April 25, 200916 yr This is a huge improvement and a very classical design. Where is this located at in relation to streets?
April 25, 200916 yr Thanks for the photos! I generally like the new Yankee Stadium, with the exception of the price tag. Is it $1 billion? $1.2 billion? Or $1.5 billion? The final cost keeps going up every time I hear a new report! Still the new stadium isn't everyone's cup o' tea. Some criticisms heard are: "It's not intimate enough" or "its too big" or "its too expensive". The designers were asked to recreate the character of the 1920's version of the old Yankee Stadium, not the remuddled 1970's version of the old stadium. And while you're at it, add all of the standard amenities and luxuries everyone demands in the 21st century. Given those demands, the new Yankee Stadium is a winner. It isn't intimate or cozy because the original Yankee Stadium wasn't meant to be that way. It is meant to be grand and imposing. It is meant to be "too much". That was the character of the original Yankee Stadium too. I like the new stadium because it stands out from the crowd of other new ballparks. Just like the original did.
April 25, 200916 yr The Imperial March from Star Wars keeps going through my head when I look at this stadium. Not sure if it's the architecture or the Yankee's organization that's causing it... Definitely agree it is a step above the last decade and a half of ballparks. This stadium makes a statement befitting the franchise that plays there.
April 26, 200916 yr Agreed. I guess the same can be said of the Great American Red's Stadium in Cincinnati, which was a vast improvement over the prior. I even like the clean, modern design that the Bengal's stadium employs. Now, the U.S. Bank Arena could use some modernization. A concrete hull, rusting steel walkways and a very dated appearance. It is still in good structural condition, but it could use a facelift.
April 26, 200916 yr I heard this from someone... that the outside looks like something Mussolini might have built. ha yes, but even moreso like what clevelanders built. its reflects the old yankee stadium, which was built by cleveland's osborne engineering in 1923. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankee_Stadium_(1923)
