Nice plan, actually, for my favorite historical park. This will turn the park into a real draw attraction if they go through with it. I guess it will be done slowly but surely, so no major improvements now. Dayton has an unbelievable history, so it will be nice to expand on it in such a nice showcase.

Construction to start on Carillon master design

Planners seek to bring history to life

By Jim DeBrosse Sunday, April 26, 2009

Someday at Carillon Historical Park, you may be able to ride a 1903 Dayton trolley down its main concourse, fly via zip line on a 1910 Wright Flyer over the park, traverse by canal boat a half-mile of the restored Miami-Erie Canal or take an incline to a hilltop park with a bird’s-eye view of the city.

Children could romp through a giant cash register of slides and tubes, ride a carousel featuring Dayton’s many inventions or visit the playhouse factory of Edward Deeds’ 9-year-old son, Charles.  The master plan for the 65-acre historic park is as bold and creative in its approach as the many Dayton inventors and entrepreneurs the park honors.

My 4th grade class went up to Dayton to Carrilon Park for the historical village they have.  The park was incredible, and these additions seem like they would make this a really great destination.

The renderings and updated layout of the park look great.

I actually visited the park a couple weeks back and really liked it.  All kinds of historic buildings.  I am in Dayton regularly now that I have friends living there, I usually stay with them every other week.  I will probably go back sometime and get pictures of these buildings.

Deeds Barn- "Within the walls of Deeds Barn, Charles Kettering, Colonel Edward Deeds and other members of the "Barn Gang" spent many late nights upstairs working on inventions. Some of these inventions included the automobile self-starter engine and the ignition system created in 1912, which eliminated the need for "crank" engine starters."

Miller House- built in 1806 and is the last remaining house from the Watervliet Shaker community.  It will have Shaker artifacts.

Hetzel House- old summer kitchen formerly located on Stroop Road. It will become a center for baking and weaving activities.

Newcom Greer House- early residence from East Dayton.  It will be moved next to the William Morris House to serve as a comparison between an urban and a rural dwelling in the 19th century.

Sort of like a "zoo for historic buildings".  That approach to historic preservation is historic itself, as it was an early concept of saving and interpreting things.

They have a small but very nice collection of railroad equipment, too.

New investments keep Dayton’s Carillon Historical Park fresh

carillon-historical-park.jpg

The giant light cone around Carillon Historical Park's bell tower at Christmas has become a holiday beacon for visitors all over the region.

But when the lights come down, there's still plenty to do at one of Dayton's most dynamic, year-round entertainment destinations.

With several projects on tap and its recently completed venues drawing steady crowds, the nonprofit that operates Carillon Historical Park and several other local landmarks says there will be little time to catch a breath this year.

A city landmark will soon return to the Dayton skyline.

Carillon Historical Park will break ground May 9 to restore the Callahan clock tower, which will serve as an anchor to the park's 65-acre campus. The clock, which will sit atop a 100-foot tower, and will be visible from Interstate 75.

The Dayton Business Journal previously reported the Callahan clock will be renamed the Brethen Tower in honor of the Brethen Foundation, which donated $500,000 toward its restoration in November 2017.

Dayton historical park to preserve piece of former fairgrounds

15outside-deeds1-articleLarge.jpg?qualit

Carillon Historical Park will play a part in the preservation of a historic structure from the former Montgomery County fairgrounds.

In the redevelopment of the former fairgrounds, onMain — the joint venture by Premier Health and University of Dayton joint venture — will move the second-oldest structure, a horse barn, to the Carillon Historical Park, a release states.

The barn was built in the late 19th century.

“Once moved to Carillon Historical Park, horse barn No. 17 will be used to tell the history of the Montgomery County Fairgrounds and the significant events that occurred on that site,” said Dayton History President and CEO Brady Kress. “The acquisition of this barn presents an opportunity to aid in Carillon Park’s fulfillment of its masterplan, and will bridge three themes…early Dayton, transportation, and agriculture.”

Carillon Park works to complete $11M in new projects

A large tourism attraction in Dayton has a string of multimillion-dollar projects underway.

Carillon Historical Park, a 65-acre park operated by Dayton History, has three separate projects underway to grow the park's attractions and accessibility throughout the park.

Dayton-area landmark in line for new structure

Another component of the multi-million dollar projects at a Dayton landmark is in motion. Carillon Historical Park has been working on $11 million in construction projects for the past few years that include adding Carillon Park Railroad.

Now, there are plans for a structure to allow museum guests to cross over a section of the railroad track when the railroad is up and running.

“It’s a bridge-like structure stemming from a future exhibit,” said Brady Kress, president and CEO of Dayton History, which operates the park.

Dayton History CEO talks about Carillon Park projects

A Dayton nonprofit is growing its campus with new additions and program offerings for visitors.

The projects will generate additional tourism dollars for the region and bring back another dining option.

...

Train project

The Carillon Park Railroad project is coming to fruition this spring. A full-size rendition of 1851 locomotive has been installed and will travel along a one-mile track within the park.

Kress said a crew from the train manufacturer Severn Lamb in England is currently in town doing load testing and training people.

“We laid about a mile of track around the park; it wraps around the historic areas,” Kress said. “We are loading the narration.”

All told, the park will spend $10 million on the new attraction. It will open to the public on May 2.

Kress said it’s a three-foot wide track and the train is over 150 feet long. The train can fit 120 guests per ride.

Kress said there are future opportunities to add another train car and a second station in the rear of the park, but there are no immediate plans.
