Great pics.

Man, you were all over the place today. You clearly out walked me. Its funny that we took some of the same building pics in the highland neighborhood. How are you liking the Denver/Front Range area? Are you just visiting? I have been here for about 4 months and I am liking it more each day. Denver has a lot going for it and so does many of the other front range cities.

Great photos of a cool city... I spent a weekend there in January, which was my first real visit, but I was barely able to scratch the surface.

Most of the pics were actually taken Wednesday, with the skyline shots and a few others from today.

I'm just in town for work, I do aerial surveying and our sensor is being worked on. I've been staying near Centennial and will probably have to move on this weekend. I have enjoyed it, much different then I remembered it as a young kid. The weather has been great and the mountain backdrop is just awesome. Everything still feels a bit too 'new' for me, but in another 25-50 years I think Denver will look great and really mature.

I spent most of my time in the neighborhood immediately adjacent to St. John's Cathedral (Episcopal)... A good friend of mine was getting ordained as a priest there, which was the occasion for my visit. His apartment is just down the street, and we did most of our drinking in the neighborhood there. We capped off the weekend with a late night at the excellent English pub shown in your 11th photo.

It's a pretty cool neighborhood, with an interesting mix of housing stock ranging from art deco apartment buildings to victorian mansions to modern condo buildings. The cathedral itself is worth a few pics, too.

This thread is a visual delight! The photos are excellent, and there's a lot to look at.

I've passed through Denver on trains numerous times, but never been out to walk around on the streets. Looks like a "must-visit" kind of place!

Great photos! Denver is a nice place to visit, but would not want to live there. They have done a lot in the past few years to make it more liveable, but not my kind of town.

Exactly! Besides since Blake, Krystal, Alexis, Fallon, Jeff, Steven and Amanda no longer live there its just a boring town.

I don't believe that for one second. I could maybe apply that to Boulder or Golden, but Denver is definitely doing things right. I cased the city over New Years and they've got everything I'd ever want in a city. Great historic architecture, nice modern building, a thriving economy, public art, unique and diverse neighborhoods, an amusement park downtown, light rail, bike paths, great shopping, and the locals I spoke to were very inviting. I went to a bar in The Highlands and chatted with tons of people about the city. They all love living there and all agree that there's not a bad spot in city limits. (Just don't go to the suburbs, bleakest ones I've seen)

Cherry Creek North, Highlands, LoDo, Five Points, City Park, and Civic Center are all fascinating neighborhoods. Really, the worst part of town is Capitol Hill, and even that is not too bad.

I hope you're enjoying your time out there. It's truly a one of a kind city.

One thing though. I don't remember the glass condos behind Union Station in this photo:

When I was there in January it was still a giant field back there. Did they get built incredibly quickly or are those across the railroad tracks on the other side of the field, in which case I'd be having major perspective issues.

It's funny. I actually gleaned a different opinion from these photos of the city than of your photos, Prok.

I can't really put my finger on it. It's just different.

I think there are elements that I see in these photos that just seem really tacky. Some of the public art is not my speed (although I really loved the big bear looking into the office building .. haha!), and the amusement park just outside of downtown is .. weird.

All in all, still looks like a nice city, and I'd like to visit one day, but I don't know if I could ever live there, either.

I really like having the amusement park right next to downtown instead of out in the suburbs like most US parks. It has a light rail station out front and it gives that 'european' urban park vibe.

^Montreal also has a major amusement park right next to its downtown. From these pictures Denver looks very similar to Calgary, Alberta.

I generally don't like Pacific NW or Mountain cities (Salt Lake, Portland, even Seattle is so-so for me), but Denver looks to be quite nice. I do agree with the comment that it looks too new, and that maybe in 20-30 years it will be really nice.

Lived in Denver for 6 years, moved back to Cleveland metro (after being away from Ohio for about 20 years) about two years ago. Only regret I have is that I didn't move back sooner. I wanted Denver to be my last stop, the place where I could raise my kids and settle down once and for all. BUT, there's just something missing there, just an uninspiring, boring place to live, from a day-to-day basis. "Most" of the architecture is cookie-cutter in Denver metro; with a very plastic, just thrown up the day before feel.

It's not that Denver is a bad place, it's just WAY overrated. Being literally in the middle of nowhere (have to drive 9 hours any direction to find another large metro area (Kansas City to the east, Salt Lake to the West), having 300,000 illegals living there, and surprisingly bad schools, are all things you never see in pictures..

Lived on the sixth floor of that horrendous building and I remember there was an earthquake on Christmas Day in 1991. My first ever and it was...fun!

I think the city is "nice" but that's about it. I'm not sure why you think any of those neighborhoods are unique but maybe I missed something when I lived there for 17 years. To me Denver, or any Colorado city for that matter, really doesn't have unique neighborhoods with distinct ethnic flavors like say a little Italy or something. Outside of some Mexican slanted neighborhoods and some "Old Western" style architecture, all Denver feels the same to me. You could be in one neighborhood and feel the exact same in the next. Denver has nice new buildings but forgetable. Restaurants are ok, lots of "chain" type of feel to even the nicer places. Fraternity/Sorority feel to bars and clubs. Coloradans tend to try and display an air of sophistication but is just doesn't work. Plus I would rather look at paint by numbers instead of Western art. Anyway just by experience. Denver is perfect for some people.

It's kind of funny, I compared Denver in my mind to Portland and Seattle when I was there and came to the opposite conclusion- it's ok, but seems to fall short compared to the competition. It looks like they have done a lot though since I was there in 2001.

Those have just been built in the past 3 years, not open yet. They redeveloped that whole field and railyard and made into a great mixed use area, with pedestrian bridges linking the area to downtown and highland hills. Also has a great park with access to the creek. Name of the development/area escapes me.

Great set of photos - I can see things in Denver that Cleveland could do (the funky condos adjacent to the art museum, healthier downtown, etc.). I wouldn't mind visiting but as 8Titles said "... literally in the middle of nowhere (have to drive 9 hours any direction to find another large metro area...", it's a bit too isolated for my taste.
